Chapter 5 - RNCS: Chapter 5

This was his first experience separating his lower jaw to swallow prey. Luckily, snakes lack a sense of taste, otherwise, I can't imagine what that large snake tasted like in my mouth. Just the smell was unpleasant; the taste certainly wouldn't have been any better.

Enduring the cold, slippery, strange feeling of the snake corpse in his mouth, after a long swallow, he finally got it all down. Ryu Takeno's body swelled noticeably.

[Conditions met. Title acquired: Kin Eater.]

[Based on the Kin Eater title effect, skills acquired: Taboo lv1, Heretical Magic lv1.]

…Kin Eater? Heretical Magic? Taboo?

When these words appeared, Ryu Takeno felt a familiar sensation, as if he'd seen them somewhere before… After racking his brain for a long time, a meter-long spider crawled past him.

Spider… why would there be a spider here?

Seeing the white spider, Ryu Takeno finally remembered.

…Spider, Kumoko!!

That spider with neat eyebrows and a cute face.

No way… Could he have been reborn into Kumoko's world?

Just as Ryu Takeno was lost in thought, an itch ran through his body, like something scratching him… He looked and saw that the small spider was biting him!

You're so brave~

Seeing a creature several times his size and still daring to attack, he had to admit, it was typical of an unthinking animal.

It couldn't even bite through his skin, yet it kept trying, truly persistent~

Squish~

Even if your opponent is a small spider, you still need to give your best to show respect, so he swatted it into a pulp with his tail.

Ugh—

Seeing the spider flesh stuck to his tail, Ryu Takeno felt disgusted and shook his tail to get rid of the remains.

Respect? What respect is there in death?

[Experience points reached a certain level. Individual—Elroe Gunerush leveled up from lv1 to lv2.]

The moment he killed the spider, Ryu Takeno felt something flow from the spider's body into his own, followed by the system's level-up notification.

[Various base stats increased.]

[Skill proficiency level-up bonus acquired.]

[Proficiency reached a certain level. Skill Venom Fang lv1 upgraded to Venom Fang lv2.]

[Proficiency reached a certain level. Skill Dragon Scales lv8 upgraded to Dragon Scales lv9.]

[Proficiency reached a certain level. Skill Heat Sense lv1 upgraded to Heat Sense lv2.]

[Skill points acquired.]

With the continuous system notifications, Ryu Takeno had a pretty good idea of where he'd been reborn. When he saw the words 'Elroe' before his name, he was nine-tenths certain.

Elroe Gunerush… isn't that a creature from Kumoko's world?

Could he have been reborn as the snake monster Kumoko killed? No, no, that's impossible. There were so many of his siblings; why would it be him?

With the level-up, Ryu Takeno found his physical abilities enhanced… but the enhancement felt strange. It wasn't a fundamental strengthening but a skill-based enhancement.

Even his Dragon bloodline was refined to some degree.

Having read the original story, Ryu Takeno knew what was going on. The so-called system was a large-scale magic, not a unique cheat code. Once he left this world, the abilities granted by the system would disappear.

In other words, the stat enhancements were all system buffs. Once the system vanished, he'd revert to his original form, losing all his abilities and strength.

Strengthening his body and bloodline was his true foundation.

Ryu Takeno didn't want to revert to his original form someday because the system disappeared. Power he controlled was true power; things given by others could be taken away at any time.

After his sibling completely merged with him, his body grew a bit larger.

He was currently in the upper layer of the Elroe Great Labyrinth.

The Elroe Great Labyrinth is divided into: Upper Layer (caves formed by various small passages, where large monsters can't move freely), Middle Layer (magma zone), Lower Layer (where powerful monsters like earth dragons live), and Bottom Layer (where the queen spider monster and her spider army reside).

As long as he didn't go to the lower levels and run into an earth dragon or the queen spider monster laying eggs, he shouldn't be in much danger.

First, he needed to level up his Appraisal skill. Only at a certain level would it show stats, skills, and other detailed information.

The way to level up skills was, of course, to use them and increase proficiency.

His race, the Elroe Gunerush, had stats all in the triple digits. In the upper layer, where the average stats were in the double digits, he was a powerful overlord.

After merging with the Dragon bloodline, Ryu Takeno felt much stronger than an ordinary snake monster, though he wasn't sure how much stronger. Living in the upper layer shouldn't be a problem.
