Awakening the Core
The air was thick with the scent of damp stone and something... unfamiliar.
Kai, now the glowing crystal core of his dungeon, pulsed faintly in the dim cavern.

A soft voice echoed in his mind again—the Goddess of Chaos.
"You survived your first encounter well, Dungeon Core. But this world is unforgiving. You must grow stronger."
Kai gritted his teeth inside his mental prison.
Grow stronger? Easy.
He scanned his surroundings. The slime squelched happily nearby, useless beyond distracting a few weak adventurers. Time to upgrade.

Summon goblin or better trap? he thought. Strategy first.
With a focused pulse, Kai sent energy flowing through the cavern walls. In a shimmer of green mist, a small goblin appeared, scratching its head and grinning crookedly.
"Alright, little guy," Kai mused. "Time to put you to work."
Before he could command the goblin, the tunnel trembled. Heavy footsteps approached—this time, a larger party, equipped and wary.
Kai's pulse quickened. This was no ordinary raid.
[Prepare for Battle]
The goblin squealed and charged. Spike traps readied themselves beneath the feet of the intruders.
Kai smiled—if only he had lips.
This was only the beginning.
