James Carter's first impression of the master of Azure Spell Peak was stellar.
The master, Archmage Eldrin Voss, had a warm, approachable air, unlike the aloofness typical of Archmage-tier sorcerers. Behind his flowing robe hung a simple staff, unadorned but likely a potent arcane relic.
As James observed Eldrin, the Archmage studied him in return.
The more Eldrin looked, the more pleased he seemed.
Stroking his silver beard, he said, "Excellent, truly excellent. A rare water-based Celestial Affinity! A gift for Azure Spell Peak."
Other Archmages grumbled, "Eldrin, why must the water affinity go to your peak?"
"Exactly!"
"The Elements intertwine—Water feeds Flame. My Ember Spell Peak could train him too!"
Eldrin laughed heartily at their envy.
With a wave of his cloak, a surge of arcane energy lifted James, whisking him toward distant azure mountains.
"Come, my apprentice," Eldrin chuckled. "Don't let these envious old fools bother you!"
His laughter echoed as they soared.
The azure mountains rose majestically, shimmering with vibrant energy, winds and clouds swirling in harmony—a breathtaking vista.
Before James knew it, the Celestial Academy's grand hall was far behind, and Azure Spell Peak loomed closer.
"Master…" James hesitated, then corrected, "Master, is it alright to leave so abruptly?"
Eldrin teased, "No worries! Those old codgers mocked my peak's lack of talent for years. Now they'll choke on their words!"
His carefree demeanor was contagious, and his potent Archmage mana made their journey swift.
Soon, they arrived at Azure Spell Peak.
The architecture mirrored the Academy's grand hall but was adorned with countless sapphire orbs, glowing like stars. From afar, it seemed thousands of radiant gems studded the mountain, sparkling in the sunlight.
"My apprentice, Azure Spell Peak is yours to shape."
"You're the only prime apprentice here—the eldest disciple."
"Manage the peak as you see fit. For arcane questions, find me at the Azure Spell Hall atop the mountain."
"Study hard. Our Celestial Academy has never produced a Grand Archmage. You could be the first. If I mentor a Grand Archmage, my legacy's secure."
With that, Eldrin handed James a storage pouch and an arcane grimoire, then strolled into the mountaintop hall, humming cheerfully.
James stood holding the pouch and grimoire, conflicted. "Feels like signing up for a shady job…"
[You joined the Archmage-tier Celestial Academy, becoming the sole prime apprentice of Azure Spell Peak.]
[The storage pouch contained a travel token, a mortal-usable skyship, and abundant mana crystals, runes, wards, and artifacts. You felt destined for Azure Spell Peak.]
[Using the skyship, you brought Lily to your side, settling her in an uninhabited cave on the mountain.]
[Your talent was extraordinary. You sensed mana on day one, refined it in three days, and reached Mana Weaving perfection in 100 days. Eldrin praised you awkwardly, saying you reminded him of his youth.]
[Soon, surprising news arrived.]
[Eldrin, your Archmage master, was injured.]
[Investigation revealed he'd bragged about your progress to other peak masters, who, frustrated, roughed him up. You shook your head—he had it coming.]
[Your rapid progress earned awe across Azure Spell Peak.]
[No one dared challenge you. Your Celestial Affinity, like a plot from a wild fantasy novel, made this life feel almost too easy.]
[Your status at Azure Spell Peak was unshakable. All believed you'd reach Archmage status and perhaps touch the divine.]
…
"Rumble—"
Thunder roared as dark clouds cloaked the sky. Silver rain fell, torn by fierce winds into a storm.
Rain at Azure Spell Peak was serene, unlike Ironhaven's lively showers. But one thing stayed constant—someone waited for James.
"Brother!"
At the cave entrance, a small figure struggled with an oversized oil-paper umbrella, waving excitedly.
"Didn't I say not to wait every time?" James took the umbrella, tilting it to shield her.
"But the book said it makes you happy," she replied slyly.
"What book?"
"One Hundred and Eight Ways to Win a Heart. Sister Mara lent it to me."
James paused, then ruffled her hair. "Don't read that stuff. It's not for kids."
"Okay…" Lily nodded, trusting him fully.
They walked through the rain under the umbrella, the paper shielding them, letting only a faint rainy scent through.
Back at the cave, a ward silenced the storm.
The cave, simple yet rich in mana, resembled their old Ironhaven cottage but was larger.
James didn't mind the plainness, but Lily loved decorating with flowers and vines.
After playing, she pestered him. "Brother, what's it like to weave spells? Can you fly?"
"Sure. When I break through to Arcane Foundation next year, I'll soar on a staff. I'll take you along."
"Really? I'll wait!"
"Won't be long." James patted her head.
He revealed two hard candies. "Got these today. Enjoy."
Lily's eyes lit up. "Brother's the best!"
[Your arcane path progressed smoothly.]
[After perfecting Mana Weaving, you followed Eldrin's advice, refining your foundation for Arcane Foundation.]
[You studied the four arcane arts: potion-crafting, artifact-forging, warding, and rune-scribing.]
[Your talent shone. You mastered the arts swiftly and crafted a new potion recipe on a whim.]
[The Academy rewarded you generously, vastly improving your and Lily's life.]
