Chapter 15 - Aspen or Arctic?

Mr. Weird was waiting outside my room when Jess came with Penn. We were having a sleepover. Lena arrived with Nina and the extravaganzas commenced. As we sat down to comment on our ex-boyfriends I saw Weird move around uncomfortably because I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts. The other security was smiling that I was finally relaxing after a week of yelling over the phone. I had fired several employees for misconduct. And demolished several businesses for being frauds.

Chris came over to ask me out again. "Are you free this weekend? I am going to Aspen and I was wondering if you want to come with me." I lit up, "Of course, I would love to go. I am delighted that you considered asking me." He gave me a long-stemmed rose, "I look forward to our trip." I smiled at him and he left. Weird was indignant he appeared out of nowhere, "Do you like men who can give you expensive things?" I was annoyed, "No. I just like the attention my ex-boyfriend and my cousin's friends give me. They want to distract me from my concerns. I won't refuse as long as they don't break the first rule." He gave me a curious expression, "What is the first rule?" I pursed my lips, "No sex before marriage. I am not some prostitute. Who opens her legs to every Tom, Dick, and Harry. I was raised by my grandma with principles." He raised his eyebrows for a minute and finally understood what I meant. He gave me his brightest smile, "Enjoy the slumber party, you earned it." He chuckled as he got back to his position.

The next morning he approached me while I was having steak and eggs. "Have you been on an Arleigh Burk Class destroyer?" I looked up from the New York Times with curiosity, "Last year I was asked to fix one of their classified weapons onboard one. So yes I have. Why do you ask?" He smiled mysteriously, "Wanna go to the Arctic with me?" I looked up in shock, "You can't get them to do something like that. It is illegal." He winked in a conspiratorial fashion. I always wanted to go there, "I will get back to you on that." He gave me an ultimatum, "The destroyer leaves tonight so make up your mind. You won't get another chance for another ten years." I implored, "I need more time to think about it." He frowned, "You said yes to Chris without batting an eye. Why won't you trust me? What can I do for you trust me? I will do anything to make you happy. You matter to me, please believe that. I will do whatever it takes to make you happy." I paused to figure out why I am apprehensive about him. He told me to give him an answer by 6 pm at the latest.

I made some calls to figure out what I should do. In the end, I was Buridan's donkey. Trying to figure out which direction to go. I was totally confused about what to do.

I prayed for a miracle and I got what I wished for. Hattie had an episode and she was taken to the hospital so I had to cancel everything. Thank you, God, for saving me from an embarrassing episode. When I was finally allowed to see her, she was doing much better. I slipped out and bought ice cream for kids in the nearest orphanage as appreciation. Chris and Weird were there watching me the entire time. I walked up to Chris and he smiled at me and asked me to hop on his Harley Davidson. He drove me home and professed his feelings for me. I was about to answer when Weird interrupted us. I swear I wanted to punch him. But I have sworn against violence so I asked Chris to stay for dinner. He happily accepted my request. Weird huffed, "How about I take you to a barbecue place and we can enjoy the sunset together. I can borrow my friend's Indian if you like." I smiled at him and responded, "I think I will have to take a rain check out that." GG called me and I ran to hug her to calm her down.
