(Open POV)
Townsville…
There is the city skyline in the afternoon.
"The city of Townsville, in all of its glory. It is the setting of this little story. " The narrator said.
Space…
There is an outer-space view of Earth, with latitude and longitude lines. It goes through half a rotation during the next line.
"Let us begin on the back of the globe." The narrator said.
Japanese family home…
There is a Japanese family, their clothes changing from everyday wear to sleep attire.
"Where people are dressed in PJ and robe." The narrator said.
The Japanese family yawns and stretches.
"They kick off their slippers and climb into beds. Fluff up their pillows and lay down their heads." The narrator said.
During these two lines, the father, son, daughter, and mother perform these actions in sequence.
Bedroom…
The mother and father are in their bed.
"Now everyone is ready to sleep for the night." The narrator said.
At the window, a glowing silhouette hovers.
"Enter the Sandman to do them up right." The narrator said.
On the end of this line, there is a the figure: a blue-skinned, bearded fellow in nightshirt and cap. He looks rather weary, with dark circles under his eyes. This is the Sandman.
"Reaching into his bag with his free hand…" The narrator said. "He pulls out a magical brown grain of sand."
He performs these actions in time with the lines; the 'bag' is his lower eyelid. He aims and flicks the sand off his finger.
"A piece in the eyes…" The narrator said, looking down at the mother. "…the left and the right."
The mother's eyes are hit by the sand, one after the other, and she closes them and begins to snore, fast asleep thanks to the Sandman.
"…and out goes the victim, asleep for the night." The narrator said.
Countryside…
The Sandman is floating across the countryside. Lights wink out as he passes as the people fall asleep thanks to his help.
"And so on to every home in every city, the Sandman does his job, singing his ditty." The narrator said.
The Sandman still floats across the countryside, his voice sounds a bit like Scatman Crothers.
"I'm the little Sandman, that's no doubt…" The Sandman said, to the tune of 'I'm a Little Teapot', throwing pinches of sand. "Putting you to sleep is what I'm about. When your eyes get heavy, don't you pout, I'll show up and put you out."
The Sandman punctuates these last three words with armpit fart noises, then hums or scats in the same tune and floats away. Across the landscape, the Sandman is wiping his hands for a job well done.
"The Sandman finishes with no time to spare." The narrator said. "And poof! He disappears back to his lair."
The Sandman winks out of sight at the appropriate moment.
The Sandman's lair…
It is a large chamber with a skylight dome and clocks all over the walls; each of these bears a label. The Sandman reappears.
"Just as soon as the Sandman gets back, he scratches his fanny and heads for the sack." The narrator said.
During this line, the Sandman does the indicated actions and starts across the room. The end of the Sandman's bed is at the other side of the room.
"But before he can reach that place so desired…" The narrator said.
Alarms and buzzers go off. The Sandman cringes under the cacophony of loud noise before looking angrily back at what interrupted his attempt to get to sleep himself.
"Again he must go where sleep is required." The narrator said. "'Clang! Clang! Clang!' goes the alarm. Oh, what a pain!"
There is a clock, its label, 'Ukraine', is flashing.
"It seems they're going to bed in Ukraine." The narrator said, with a Ukrainian accent.
Ukrainian city…
The Sandman is floating above. The windows go dark.
"That task done, it's time to get going." The narrator said, with his normal voice.
The Sandman's eyes is very bloodshot, indicating just how weary and tired he is from doing his job without some rest of his own to recover his energy.
"Look at those eyes. I think that's fatigue showing." The narrator said.
The Sandman's lair…
At the vertical bars of the Sandman's bed's headboard toward the clocks. The Sandman is floating towards the bed and the pillow.
"So, back to the sanctity of his lair…" The narrator said.
The Sandman lies down.
"For some well-deserved sleep. It's only fair." The narrator said.
The Sandman closes his eyes.
"As he's about to catch up on the sleep that he's missed…" The narrator said.
A beeping noise begins, and the Sandman jumps out of bed and lands sprawled on the floor, disappointed he was interrupted again from getting to sleep.
"Off goes the mini-alarm he wears on his wrist." The narrator said.
The Sandman wears a wristwatch with a flashing light. This is the source of the beeping.
"Who is it now, pulling him away from his home?" The narrator asked.
The watch is marked 'Rome'.
"Why, it's the Italians, going el snooze-o in Rome…" The narrator said.
Rome…
The Sandman floating above the Roman skyline, the Colosseum visible in the distance. The lights begin to go out.
"Adhering to the schedule he is stuck to…" The narrator said, winking out of sight.
Timbuktu…
It is a city in the desert.
"Off he goes to put them asleep in Timbuktu." The narrator said.
The Sandman appears on a ridge overlooking the city.
Space…
The Sandman is floating out in space, looking down at the spinning globe.
"Hitting every city in the world, it's no joke." The narrator said. "London, Paris, Cairo, even Royal Oak."
Earth…
The Sandman is in each of these three cities and an ordinary house in the suburbs in time with this line. He floats past a row of houses, with lights going out as he passes.
"So it goes, twenty-four hours a day without pause, three hundred sixty-five nights a year…" The narrator said.
North Pole…
Santa Claus is fast asleep in his bed at the North Pole.
"…unlike that Santy Claus." The narrator said.
Townsville…
There is the Townsville skyline. It is now nighttime.
"Meanwhile, back in the city we all love and know…" The narrator said.
Outside Utonium Residence…
"More specifically, the Utonium chateau…" The narrator said.
(Jared's POV)
Girls' bedroom…
The girls are playing baseball in the bedroom. Bubbles pitches, Blossom catches, Buttercup bats.
"Where the girls are still making a clatter…" The narrator said.
Buttercup gets a hit.
"In pops the Professor and Jared…" The narrator said.
The Professor and I peeked in at the bedroom door, and after quickly spotting the incoming projectile and reacting with justified 'oh, crap!' looks. The Professor and I ducked, the ball just missed us.
"To see what's the matter." The narrator said.
The Professor and I looked in again, the girls facing us. The Professor and I have our pajamas on.
"Girls, what's the noise? It's time for bed." The Professor said, sadly.
"Yeah. What is it you dread?" I asked, looking down at the girls.
"We're not sleepy." Bubbles said, frowning.
"We want to stay up instead." Buttercup said, annoyed.
"Well, you know, that's all dandy and fine." The Professor said, becoming stern. "Into bed—that's the bottom line."
"But, Professor…" The girls said, at the same time.
"No buts, and I mean it." The Professor said.
Bubbles hold up a sack of peanuts, "Does anybody want a pean-it?"
"Bubbles, leave it." I said, laughing at Bubbles' pun.
"I want you in bed. Jared wants you in bed too. That's our final warning. Don't you know I've got work and Jared has to plan how to help you stop Mojo in the morning?" The Professor asked.
"Girls, don't mind doing some outsourcing." I said, standing outside the girls bedroom in the darkened hallway. "And for a song by the Chordettes, don't mind doing some swarming."
The girls look rather dejected; the Professor shuts the door on them.
"And with that, the Professor stands with Jared to close the door tight…" The narrator said.
(Open POV)
Professor's bedroom…
The Professor is in his bed, pulling up his blankets.
Jared's bedroom…
Jared is in his bed, pulling up his blankets, his AmuSphere on his face.
"And the two tucked themselves in to sleep for the night." The narrator said.
The Sandman's lair…
The Sandman is also in bed. He does likewise.
"Back at his lair, the Sandman tries the same." The narrator said.
The alarms shatter the Sandman's calm once more.
"But off goes the alarm." The narrator said, as the Sandman looked at the Townsville clock. "Townsville to blame."
The Sandman crosses the room. He is fed up with being disturbed every few minutes with putting people around the world to sleep and never getting a chance to get some rest himself.
"That's it! No more! I quit!" The Sandman yelled. "I never get to sleep, and I'm tired of it!" He stops. "Wait! I've an idea that just might work."
"He said with an evil, toothy kind of smirk." The narrator said.
"I'll fill the machine. Oh, this is so clever!" The Sandman said, narrowing his eyes. "A machine that will put them all to sleep forever!"
On the end of this line, the Sandman is facing the walls of clocks. Lightning bolts flash across the room and give way to the base of a bizarre-looking contraption that might be made of old-style wrought iron. At the machine's top section, a scoop piled high with sand protrudes.
"And so it is built, just as he planned." The narrator said.
The Sandman is at a control panel that slides up to him, and he starts to operate it.
"A machine to sprinkle the world with his sand." The narrator said. "He punches the numbers and pulls down the handle…"
The rig kicks into gear.
Space…
Earth is enveloped in light.
"Out goes the world, just like a candle." The narrator said.
Earth…
There was a group of Japanese tourists, then an Italian family and next, a group of witch doctors around a fire in the jungle. All are fast asleep, showing no movement whatsoever.
Townsville…
At a traffic circle; it is choked with cars that are going nowhere fast.
The Sandman's lair…
The Sandman is looking quite triumphant.
"I did it! I did it! Now I can hit the hay!" The Sandman cheered. "I think I'll sleep an extra seventeen hours a day."
"But before he can enjoy the fruit of his pains…" The narrator said.
The alarms sound again, ruining the Sandman's jubilation. The alarm blares with a 'CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!'.
"Off goes the alarm. Someone remains." The narrator said.
The Sandman looks at his control panel, "Oh! Who's still awake?!"
"He said with remorse." The narrator said.
On the monitor, the girls have resumed their baseball game. Now Blossom is pitching to Bubbles, with Buttercup catching.
"Why, it's the Powerpuff Girls with insomnia, of course." The narrator said.
"Oh, those brats are ruining my ploy! By staying awake, they're stealing my joy! I'll pay them a visit, a little house call…" The Sandman said, starting to glow. "And take care of this matter once and for all!"
At the end of this line, the Sandman fades away.
The girls' bedroom…
The girls have switched to football. Bubbles is ready to hike the ball to Blossom; Buttercup is set to tackle one or both of them.
"Back in their room, the girls continue playing, when all of a sudden, they hear someone saying…" The narrator said.
The Sandman wink into the girls' view. The girls look toward him.
"You three girls are ruining my plan! Now get into bed as quick as you can!" The Sandman cried.
"Who are you to make us?" Buttercup asked.
"Buttercup did exclaim." The narrator said.
The Sandman is floating in midair.
"Why, I'm the Sandman, the one and the same. I come to you now with only one dream, which is why I hatched up this wonderful scheme. I want to sleep and doze and slumber and nap, so I put the world to sleep. It was a snap!" The Sandman said, snapping his fingers and he descended to the floor. "Forever they'll sleep. That I've no doubt." He settles in front of the girls. "And you three girls I'll also put out!"
"We've got to stop this awful oppressor!" Blossom said, jumping up. "Bubbles!" Bubbles jumps up. "Buttercup!" Buttercup jumps up. "Wake the Professor and Jared!"
"You can try and wake him, try as you might…" The Sandman said, sliding in front of the door to block the girls' way.
The Professor and Jared have mounds of sand on their eyes. The Professor drools slightly and Jared has his AmuSphere on his head.
"But I guarantee you, they're out like a light. And Jared's AmuSphere's safety feature is now a headlight." The Sandman said.
The girls size up the Sandman.
"To put them to sleep is the reason he came." The narrator said.
The Sandman pulls a blaster on the girls.
"So he pulls out his weapon and takes sharp aim." The narrator said.
The girls take to the air.
"The girls fly up in typical formation, to stop the Sandman and his evil creation." The narrator said.
The crosshairs of the Sandman's gun slide into view and center themselves between the girls. This is the Sandman's perspective.
"Hold still now! I've just about enough!" The Sandman said, angrily.
"You can't hurt us, 'cause we're the Powerpuff…" Blossom said, and she is cut off by a beam that nails her and the other two—a direct hit.
When it fades, the girls tumble down, having fallen deep into dreamland, on the next line.
"But before the girls can finish their call, the Sandman finishes them, once and for all." The narrator said.
"Victory is mine! I've won, that's who!" The Sandman said, excitedly. "Now there's only one thing left for me to do."
The Sandman disappears.
"And with that, he vanishes in thin air, Most likely to sleep back at his lair." The narrator said, looking across the room. "So I guess that's it. What can I say?"
The girls are fast asleep and snoring softly: Blossom on the floor, Buttercup over a chair, Bubbles on her head.
"Oh, who would've thought it woulda ended this way?" The narrator asked.
(Jared's POV)
Kirito and Asuna' log cabin…
"Yes! It worked! Linking your dreams to my AmuSphere was one of my schemes." I said, happily.
Thought balloons form above the girls' heads and my head. These merge into a single large balloon, in which the girls and I appear, floating in Kirito and Asuna's log cabin. Our voices echo slightly, as if we are speaking to each other across an empty stage.
"Hey, what are you three doing in one of my dreams?" Buttercup asked.
"We're all in each other's, or so it seems." Bubbles said.
"Jared, where are we?" Blossom asked.
"We're in ALfheim Online, also known as ALO. Time travel is always possible in dreams. We're in Kirito and Asuna's home, you see." I said, smiling.
"Wow. Thanks, Jared. This is a power I never knew we had."
"It's totally cool!" Bubbles chirped.
"Yeah, it ain't half bad." Buttercup said, smirking.
"But let's get down to the matter at hand…" Blossom said, looking between Buttercup, Bubbles, and I. "…how to defeat that dispenser of sand."
"I know that if we can stop the Sandman, I'll be able to stop Nocturne and it would be well in hand." I said, happily.
"Why don't we just go and beat him right up?" Buttercup asked.
"Always the violent way, eh, Buttercup?" Blossom asked.
"Yup." I said, landing safely onto Kirito and Asuna's couch. "You sure know how to mess a bad guy up."
Buttercup looks a bit put out at this.
"I've got an idea. It's way out of sight. We'll infiltrate his dreams and give him a fright!" Bubbles cheered.
"Yes, scare him so bad that he'll never want to sleep again. Bubbles, you're clever!" Blossom said, excitedly.
"You really are smart, Bubbles." I said, walking around Kirito and Asuna's log cabin. "The reason why I love this place is because it's cozy."
Bubbles sticks her tongue out at Buttercup.
"Careful, Bubbles, your ego is showing." Buttercup said, scoffing.
"What? Where?" Bubbles asked.
"Come on, let's get going!" Blossom said, angrily.
We take off, winking out of sight.
The Sandman's lair…
The Sandman is fast asleep in his bed with a big, satisfied smile at finally being able to get some well-deserved rest without being interrupted every few seconds by his job. I phased my head through, my body invisible and I'm looking down at the Sandman's head from the footboard. I'm looking down extremely close up at the Sandman's face.
Countryside…
The Sandman's dream is a peaceful fantasy countryside. He is sitting in the middle of a bunch of flowers and looking very content and happy. Birds are singing, and everything looks as tranquil as can be. It's a dream come true for him now that his deepest desire to get some sleep has finally been granted, despite the underhanded move he made to earn it.
After a few seconds, however, the sky darkens and black clouds hide the sun. The Sandman looks up in alarm; tri-colored lightning bolts crack across the sky, and he finds himself looking up at three gargantuan Powerpuff Girls and I. We look as if we have him right where we want him. He looks around and begins to run, the background behind him turning to vertical black stripes on a white field.
"Thank you, Yui." I said, clutching the strap of my sling bag. "You too, River. And Kyoko, thanks for the illusion magic advice."
The Sandman is running in very slow motion down a long corridor with these stripes on the walls. It is seen as if it were a photographic negative—white becomes black, blue becomes orange, and so on. The accompanying music sounds as if it is being played backwards.
When he has nearly reached the end of the hallway, the Sandman looks behind. The end of the corridor begins to recede and fade from sight as he keeps running, as if refusing to let him escape to safety and making it more difficult to even try. He looks back over his shoulder, panicked and terrified, and the girls and I are floating toward him, wicked smiles on our faces. We are in normal color. He runs on, still looking back for a while before turning to see ahead of himself. The door finally comes into view for the Sandman; he runs head-on into this, normal color and motion returning when he impacts it.
The Sandman tumbles backward to the floor and looks up at the door, then reaches up and opens it. It swings open to reveal a huge pink eye blinking at him from a pink face. The features around the eye socket suggest feathers. The Sandman recoils in shock at the apparition and starts running back up the corridor at top speed. Around him, the walls, ceiling, and door fall away like oversized playing cards, leaving the floor floating in space. A giant pink chicken with a black stripe around its midsection and red tail feathers—Blossom—gives pursuit. Behind them, surreal colors and shapes float past. I'm following the two. The giant pink chicken strikes at the Sandman twice with its beak, the background exploding briefly with each peck.
"This is too funny." I said, laughing a lot as I sent several Railguns at the Sandman, knocking him down to the ground. "I can't, I can't."
Suddenly, the Sandman stops short and runs in the opposite direction as a light blue chicken with a black stripe and yellow tail, Bubbles, has joined the chase. She tries to peck him once, the background exploding again, before he jumps into a hole in the path. Buttercup's green, black-striped poultry equivalent, sporting a black tail, runs up and plunges its beak in after him, and the background changes briefly to show a praying mantis during this digging. The Sandman is yanked out as the original surreal pattern reappears, and Buttercup throws him down the path with the backdrop going into an insane swirling motion. All three begin to peck at the Sandman as they cluck furiously, throwing feathers everywhere, the background swirling again. I'm laughing immensely, with me placing down a forcefield, to keep the Sandman trapped.
When the feathers clear, the girls and I—now back to our normal selves and sizes—are pounding on him with pillows. A large, glowing vortex is seen behind us; this grows gradually until it fills about half the screen.
"Is this adventure almost over?" Blossom asked, looking at me.
"Yeah. Mostly for another hostile takeover." I said, smugly.
Buttercup, Blossom, and I fly in and hit the Sandman at point-blank range, and Bubbles throws her pillow. It floats against a white background as the Sandman's head moves into view to rest on it.
The Sandman's lair…
The Sandman is in his bed; he is sleeping peacefully, with no sound but the ticking of a clock.
After a moment, the Sandman sits up suddenly and looks around himself, hoping that the nightmare the Girls and I put him through is over. He smiles, relieved. However, the bed begins to shake and rattle, meaning that his dream is far from over. Its legs begin to grow, elevating him toward the dome of his lair. The Sandman breaks through it.
Outside, the Sandman is lifted high above its surface. The bed pulls its legs out through the hole and plants them around it, and he wobbles back and forth in midair. The Sandman begins to look slightly seasick.
Around the Sandman, the scene dissolves to an expanse of water; his bed becomes a large wooden crate, with a pillow for his head. The background takes on a weird yellow-orange color, as of the sunset reflecting off the ocean. There is the sound of seagulls calling to one another. A yellow fin breaks the surface and begins to circle the makeshift raft. The Sandman watches nervously as it moves behind him and disappears from sight. A huge head with a mouth full of deadly pointed teeth surfaces. The creature, which has Bubbles' hair, roars at a deafening volume and swallows the raft whole. When it dives, we see that it is indeed Bubbles—the fin was one of her pigtails.
The Sandman slides down her gullet at high speed and lands on a pile of sand. More of this begins to spill onto his head, burying him; the Sandman is trapped within an hourglass. The girls and I fly into view to watch him, with various clocks and timepieces in the background.
"What about now?" Blossom asked, looking down at a watch on her wrist, and in the watchface, the Sandman is now being used in place of Mickey Mouse, his arms rotating to show the time. These meet at 12:00. "Please tell me it is."
"Yeah. It's showbiz." I said, laughing a lot.
I'm looking at the face of an alarm clock in the Sandman's lair. The Sandman is mounted on top as the bell, with the striker poised next to his head. He looks quite nervous at the prospect that lies before him. The striker hits him, and we hear the bell ring.
There was an ordinary alarm clock ringing on his nightstand, the Sandman looked quickly right to the bed. He sits bolt upright and screams in complete terror, horror, and fear. His chances of getting a good night's sleep at this point are no more with the nightmare he just got at the hands of the Girls and I, traumatizing him for life.
"I'm awake! Please stay out of my dreams!" The Sandman cried. "Never again will I hatch any schemes!"
The Sandman runs to the control panel and starts to work it, smiling nervously back over his shoulder.
"I'm throwing the switch and hitting the number And awaking them all from eternal slumber." The Sandman said, no longer at the panel. He looks at his watch. "Oh, would you look at the time? I gotta get cracking! People are waiting! My, I've been slacking!"
The Sandman vanishes.
"And off he goes, off to his job, never to sleep again, the poor slob." The narrator said.
(Open POV)
Earth…
The Japanese tourists wake up and begin taking pictures during the next line.
"The world awakes without missing a beat, unaware of the Sandman's defeat." The narrator said.
The Italian family comes around next and instantly starts arguing. Next are the witch doctors, who start dancing happily around their fire. The clogged Townsville intersection is revived; the cars do not move, but we hear them honking.
(Jared's POV)
The girls' bedroom…
Finally, the girls and I awake. I figured I sleepwalked into the girls' bedroom or River Song carried me there while I was asleep.
"Yay!" Bubbles said, excitedly.
"We did it!" Buttercup yelled.
"We're awake!" Blossom cheered.
"I'm pooped." Bubbles said, sadly.
"Let's hit the hay." Buttercup said, annoyed.
"For goodness' sake." Blossom said, scoffing.
"Link Start." I said, placing my AmuSphere back onto my head, with my eyes closed.
At an empty patch of the bedroom, the girls float into view, looking wiped out. I'm lying down on the floor, with my AmuSphere on my head, and I also looked wiped out. The girls are on their bed as the Narrator speaks.
"And finally, for all their troubles, they deserve the sleep…" The narrator said.
Buttercup has dark circles under her eyes, resting her head on her pillow. The others in turn; each does likewise.
"Buttercup, Blossom, and Bubbles. Along with their fanboy, Jared, with him going back to the world of ALO." The narrator said.
The girls are now under the covers and sleeping like logs. I'm now in a sleeping bag, my mind still active, while I am resting my eyes. At the windows, after some time, the sky lightens and a rooster crows in the distance—morning has come. At 9:00, the alarm clock goes off, the door opens, and a very perky Professor looks in on us.
"It's morning, girls, Jared! Oh, how the night sure flies. Wake up and rub the sand from your eyes!" The Professor said, excitedly.
At the bed, where the girls are still fast asleep, and I am still fast asleep in my sleeping bag, where the Professor is at the door.
"Oh, Professor, perhaps you'd better turn around. Because while the rest of us were sleeping sound…" The narrator said.
(Open POV)
Space…
Earth turns on its axis.
"The earth was saved just as it twirls…" The narrator said.
The standard end shot comes up.
"Thanks again to the Powerpuff Girls!" The narrator cooed.
