"What is going on?" Mauve asked as soon as Mill got close enough. She leaned forward, and Jael had to hold on to her to stop her from getting out of bed, his irritation growing.
"Your Grace, I apologize for the intrusion," Mill said with a very low bow.
Mauve simply nodded. Her apology wasn't necessary; she wanted to know exactly what was going on and if there was a cause for worry. But Mauve already knew her answer—Mill wouldn't interrupt unless it was absolutely necessary.
"It's fine, Mill," Mauve cut in. "Just let me know what's going on."
Mill looked up and caught sight of the Primus' expression, and her face lost even more color. Unfortunately, this was not something she could handle without Mauve's help, and as much as she hated to interrupt when they were clearly ready to sleep, here she was.
"Madeline is sick," Mill announced.
