Eric cursed as he saw both demonic dogs growling at him in anger. before he could even do anything both charged at him at the speed unfitting of their size.
Eric didn't sit back either, he used [stone armor] and fired sonic blasts at incoming monsters.
Monsters dodged the sonic blasts as they continued their way toward Eric. Eric didn't stand in one place either as he began to move around the outer perimeter of the castle.
Eric wanted to fight in close quarters too but he didn't know much about these monsters, so he decided to check the water first.
Eric fired a fire spear at one demonic dog and released a sonic blast at the other one. this time they didn't dodge, one of them opened its mouth as it started gathering black mass of energy in the shape of a ball and then released black beam out of it, toward the fire spear.
result ? it was something which left both the parties dumbfounded. purple fire spear when came in contact with a beam of black energy suddenly started to become bigger and burned even more gloriously.
Soon the stalemate between both the attacks came to an end and black beam coming from the monster died down, but the same could not be said for the fire spear, it was now size of a big car and continued its way toward the demonic dog at faster speed.
Shortly afterwards, the whole body of the demonic dog was engulfed in a fire spear and it disintegrated in a few seconds.
Eric got the notification of gaining mana from the demonic dog but he didn't pay attention to it, as he focused on the second demonic dog, and apparently it was whimpering in pain while holding its ears which were bleeding. Eric didn't waste the opportunity as he pierced the head of the demonic dog with a fire spear.
At last he focused on the notifications.

He gained the same notification from the second demonic dog.
'Corrupted mana? Does it mean an evil version of mana or something?'
Eric thought as he moved his hand forward and used corrupted mana manipulation.
What appeared in his hand was black type of mana in the shape of an unstable ball, although Eric couldn't bring his mana outside his body until he reached A rank but he was still sure that even if he bought it out it wouldn't be as sinister as this. It just wasn't the same.
Normal mana which Eric used had a peaceful vibe to it, as if mild wind passing through grassland. On the other hand corrupted mana felt like a raging storm whose only purpose for moving was destruction.
"It's easier to move than normal mana. It Must be because it's in the form of ability"
Eric contemplated as he used corrupted mana in very different shapes.
"Now let's check what it does to Chaos fire."
Eric said as created a fire spear but instead of normal mana he used corrupted mana.
It started from the bottom of shaft until it reached the tip of the spear. A spear made of pure black fire. Its shape was shifting here and there but it was still in the shape of a spear. Eric didn't waste much as he threw the spear at one of the dead trees.
SWISH- It flew toward the tree at fast speed and
"BOOM!"
Blasted it whole. If it was his normal Chaos fire it would have pierced the tree trunk and then burned it slowly.
But it seems like a spear made of corrupted Chaos fire had more destructive power.
"That's powerful "
Eric muttered as he looked at the burned up piece of tree which was turning into ashes.
'that dog must've fired the beam of pure corrupted mana'
that was the only explanation why his attack became bigger. his fire spear had absorbed all the corrupted mana which was in the shape of beam
Eric thought as he stopped playing with black gaseous substance which was corrupted mana and focused on the red gate of the castle again.

After entering the castle what greeted Eric was a large hall, big enough to hold 10 elephants walking side by side.
TAK- TAK- in an empty hall only the sound of Eric shoes hitting the ground were heard.
Eric stopped in his tracks as he sensed a monster coming toward him at high speed.
In a few seconds it traveled 100 meters yet Eric couldn't see it. and just when it was about to reach him it disappeared.
"huh? where did it g-"
Eric wasn't able to finish his sentence as he sensed a monster appearing behind him.
what followed was a straight kick at Eric's back.
BAM! Eric flew toward the side and crashed into the wall.
CRUNCH- CRUNCH -
Eric stood up with the help of a wall as bits of stone fell from his back.
"luckily I used the [ stone armour ] at the last moment otherwise my head would be gone"
Eric said as he stared at the being who Kicked him at the back.
Deep red eyes , its Hand in the shape of claws , with a body made up of black gas. although the monster didn't have a face, Eric could tell from its eyes that it was not happy with Eric being here.
The monster again faded from Eric's view as it appeared at his side. Eric being prepared this time dodged the attack just as Eric dodged the attack.
The monster again faded away and appeared in front of Eric and slashed at him with its sharp claws.
unable to dodge, Eric covered his hand in stone armour and put them in x position against the monster's attack.
monster claws came in contact with stone armour and destroyed it in the process.
Eric was once again sent flying in the air. The monster didn't waste this chance and appeared behind Eric once again and attacked.
this cycle continued for a few minutes as the monster threw Eric at the ceiling. after crashing from the ceiling Eric fell down from 30 meter height straight.
his stone armour completely destroyed. while Eric was bleeding from several places including his head.
Eric once again got up but this time with dangerous glint in his eyes.
"shadows"
Eric mumbled as he gazed at his shadow. that's right, Eric wasn't just getting beaten to pulp for nothing. all this time he was focusing on the monster's attack pattern and at last he found out how that monster kept appearing near him.
it was through his and walls shadow from which that monster kept coming from.
Knowing where the monster was coming from next Eric stepped up with shaky legs. and prepared for his most destructive attack.
Eric didn't have to wait much longer as a monster appeared behind him.
Eric turned around and pushed his palm forward and whispered.
[ Corrupted Mana - Chaos Purification ]
his strongest attack coupled with corrupted Mana resulted in a deathly destructive force which could even push an A rank warrior back.
The monster seemingly surprised with the sudden attack tried to disappear in shadows but because of point blank range of attack it didn't get much time.
Eric's attack resulted in a blast which took the monster whole and even obliterated the path fifty to sixty meters behind it.
not able to maintain his body balance anymore Eric fell down on the floor. sudden weakness shrouded his body as his eyes began to close.
"no I cannot faint!"
Eric has started to lose consciousness , just before his consciousness faded he heard system notification.

not able to stay awake any longer Eric fainted.

Eric eyes opened up as he looked black ceiling.
"urgh!"
his mind buzzed as he recalled all those notifications.

seeing the information about the monster's ability Eric truly understood how powerful this ability was.
just imagine you can teleport behind someone's back and kill them without them even noticing.
fortunately for Eric that monster wasn't human and its attack pattern was simple to understand.
Eric tried to stand up but found out that even moving hand was extremely painful.
"haa…."
Eric sighed as he used his pocket space skill to take out stamina and mana potions.
after drinking them he took out health potion and drank it as well.
after drinking the potions Eric started Mana control to speed up the process of his body recovering.
'I can sense it. I'm close to breaking through again.'
when awakeners store enough mana in their mana core. they can increase their mana capacity and can have better understanding of power. this process was called rank up.
increase in understanding of power only happens to high rankers like A and S rankers.
so far Eric has reached the limit of his D rank mana core. and now his mana core is even absorbing a very miniscule amount of mana without even using mana control.
this means he has already reached D+ rank and is going to breakthrough soon enough.
