The atmosphere had become somewhat awkward, as everyone exchanged glances, especially curious about Arthur Baker's reaction.
Old Mr. Baker's face grew stern, his brows furrowing slightly.
Ryan Gregory gave a faint smile and drained the wine in his glass in one gulp.
As the host of the banquet and the honoree of today's celebration, the chairman of the Washington Group, Mr. Zhang, also realized the awkwardness at the table and tried to smooth things over with a joke, "The young elites of today are truly becoming more numerous. It seems us old folks should start making room for you."
His modest words were followed by some flattery from the guests, "Compared to someone like Chairman Zhang, we still have a long way to go."
The sycophantic and flattering remarks came one after another, delivered without blushing or skipping a beat, having long become second nature to these people.
