Kevin froze for a moment stunned as he stared down at Derrick who witnessed him losing control to his own emotions.
"Are you okay?" Derrick says with concern as he rubs the sleep from one of his eyes with a hand, still just waking up with a pillow in his other hand.
"Yeah.. just uhm..." Kevin mutters as he runs a hand through his hair and closes his eyes for a moment thinking to himself about what he should do. 'He shouldn't see me like this.' Kevin thinks.
"Was there a bug on the mirror? They scare me too don't worry.." Derrick says as he looks over at the broken mirror.
"No No." Kevin says with a smile as he fixes his hair. 'Get it together' he thinks. "A bug wouldn't scare me." He says trying to play off what happened casually.
"It must of been a really big bug." Derrick says with his eyes on the broken pieces of the mirrors laying on the counter and sink.
Kevin then really realizes the severity of the situation. Derrick could tell the rest of them about his little 'incident'. This is exactly what he was trying to avoid. A thousand thoughts ran through Kevin's mind in the few seconds he had before he needed to act. What if he just erased the memory? No one would know then. Would he be any better than his brother then? Using his powers to rule over mortals? Also, what if he overdid it? What if he erased all of his memory? What if he lost control completely? What if he became just like.. His earlier dream shot through his mind. What if he-
"You sure you okay mister?" Derrick says interrupting Kevin's racing thoughts. Kevin takes a deep breath and focuses.
"Yeah I'm fine. Its still night, go back to bed. Ill fix the mirror by the time you wake up." Kevin says faking calmness as he looks down at the boy.
"Okay, good night. Don't let the spiders get you." Derrick says with a small chuckle as he walks away into his bedroom. The second he leaves, Kevin turns to face the mirror and reaches out his hand to focus in his power. This way, he won't lose control as easily. Focusing on the broken mirror as he shuts his eyes. His grey hand illuminates dimly with faint golden light. His glow now lacking the life it uses to shine with as the mirror is put back together.
Come on. Get it together. I need a plan to stop people like Frederick. I can't do anything if I can't even control my own power. Kevin thinks as he gazes into his cold eyes despite their golden color. I couldn't even stop him when I had control, Could I?
Kevin steps out of the bathroom and walks back into the small living room. He sits back in the old chair but sleep never claims him. I don't need sleep right now. He thinks as he remembers the old man on the couch next to him. His grey hairs becoming more apparent in the silence of the apartment. Kevin's eyes roam over his receding hairline and the cane resting near the withered couch. How could he be so comfortable?
