Chapter 73: Strengthen My Xiao Wu
Ye Feng looked at Tang San.
Tang San was sweating profusely, carrying a bamboo basket on his back with iron blocks tied to his legs to increase the weight. Not only was Zhu Zhuqing still practicing diligently so late at night, but Tang San was also training hard. He was more than 50 meters away from Ye Feng and the others, and he had just witnessed Ye Feng using his external spirit bone.
Tang San was baffled. He had thought that having an external spirit bone finally gave him something that Ye Feng didn't have. That had made him feel somewhat superior. But Tang San never expected that Ye Feng had one as well.
Ye Feng ignored Tang San and looked at Dai Mubai with disdain. He smirked and asked, "You still wanna go?"
Dai Mubai hesitated. The strange pressure coming from Ye Feng's external spirit bone was unsettling. He clenched his fists but eventually let out a grunt and walked toward the entrance of Shrek Academy.
Snort.
After taking a few steps, Dai Mubai suddenly stopped, realizing something. He turned to look at Zhu Zhuqing and Ye Feng, his face filled with frustration. In the end, he groaned in dissatisfaction and stormed off in the direction of Soto City instead.
Ye Feng watched him go and smirked. "He's probably heading to Soto City to mess around. Zhuqing, don't you wanna explain things to him?"
Zhu Zhuqing's eyes remained cold and indifferent. She looked at Dai Mubai's retreating figure and said flatly, "There's nothing to explain. He's just overthinking everything."
Tang San, who had been observing quietly, didn't say a word. Instead, he silently picked up a rock weighing about one or two pounds from the ground, tossed it into his backpack, and resumed his weighted running.
Ye Feng shook his back slightly, retracting his external spirit bone—the Dragon Phoenix Ancient Wings. Unlike Tang San's external spirit bone, Zhu Zhuqing noticed that Ye Feng's spirit bone left only some intricate palm-sized patterns on his back. Not only did it not affect the appearance of his back, but it even made it look more wild and powerful.
Recalling the overwhelming suppression she had felt earlier, Zhu Zhuqing asked curiously, "Boss Ye, why did your external spirit bone put pressure on me like that?"
"That's because it contains the bloodline of both dragons and phoenixes," Ye Feng explained. "Dragons and phoenixes are the supreme spirit beasts. Any beast with their bloodline is basically royalty among spirit beasts. Even true dragons and phoenixes have to bow to them. Your martial spirit is a beast-type, so naturally, it felt suppressed."
Ye Feng's external spirit bone, the Dragon Phoenix Ancient Wings, didn't have the devouring ability of Tang San's Eight Spider Lances. However, it carried the combined bloodline of dragons and phoenixes, which gave it a natural suppression effect on all beast-type martial spirits. Additionally, it not only granted Ye Feng the ability to fly but also greatly boosted his defensive capabilities. And since it was an external spirit bone, it would evolve alongside Ye Feng's cultivation. In the future, his Dragon Phoenix Ancient Wings would only become more powerful.
"Boss Ye, earlier you said you had a training method that would suit me. What is it?" Zhu Zhuqing asked with curiosity.
Ye Feng had been about to tell her earlier, but their conversation had been interrupted—first by the blacksmith shop owner and then by Dai Mubai. Now, finally, she could ask again.
"You're an agility-type attack spirit master. If you only train your body but don't hone your combat skills, you'll just be wasting your potential. If you want to get stronger, you need to improve your actual combat abilities alongside your physical training," Ye Feng explained.
"Improve my combat abilities? But I'm an agility-type spirit master. Aside from the dean, no one in the academy is faster than me," Zhu Zhuqing said with a puzzled expression.
"You forgot about me," Ye Feng grinned.
"You?" Zhu Zhuqing looked at him doubtfully but then remembered the battle between Ye Feng and Qingyu Ying. Suddenly, it clicked. "Boss Ye, are you planning to spar with me?"
"If you want to improve, simple sparring won't be enough. But let's not do it tonight. I'm not in the mood. Meet me in the forest behind the mountain tomorrow night," Ye Feng said.
"Alright." Zhu Zhuqing nodded.
With that settled, Zhu Zhuqing didn't return to the academy to rest. Instead, she resumed her weighted training alongside Tang San. Ye Feng, on the other hand, didn't go back to rest either. He just sat on a large rock at the academy gate, waiting for Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong to return from their shopping trip in Soto City.
About half an hour later, Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong finally arrived at Shrek Academy.
"You're back," Ye Feng greeted.
"Mm," the two girls responded.
"Rongrong, go inside and rest. I need to talk to Xiao Wu," Ye Feng said.
"Okay."
Ning Rongrong nodded. She glanced at Xiao Wu and Ye Feng, feeling a little down. She was curious about what Ye Feng wanted to discuss with Xiao Wu but didn't ask. Instead, she simply turned and walked into the academy alone.
"Brother, what do you need me for? It's so late… don't tell me you wanna spar?" Xiao Wu asked playfully.
"Come with me," Ye Feng said, taking the lead and heading toward the back mountain of the academy.
The back mountain of Shrek Academy was just a small hill covered in pine trees. During the day, local farmers often came here to chop wood or set traps for rabbits and wild boars. But at night, the place was eerily quiet. If someone wanted to sneak away with their lover for some alone time, this was the perfect spot where no one would find them.
Ye Feng led Xiao Wu straight to the hilltop before stopping.
"Brother, why did you bring me here?" Xiao Wu asked, completely unafraid of the darkness.
"I have a gift for you." Ye Feng touched the jade bracelet on his left wrist with his right hand, taking out a scroll.
"What's this?" Xiao Wu asked curiously as she unrolled it. A pair of jet-black wings was drawn on the scroll, so detailed that the feathers almost seemed to flutter in the breeze.
"Purple Cloud Wings," Ye Feng replied.
"Purple Cloud Wings?" Xiao Wu looked at him with even more curiosity.
"Once you absorb it, you'll gain an external spirit bone—Purple Cloud Wings. Until you break through to Rank 60, your identity as a spirit beast is at risk. But with these wings, you'll become a flying rabbit. Many spirit masters, including some Soul Douluo and even Titled Douluo, lack the ability to fly. Once you have these wings, even if your identity gets exposed, you can just fly away. Your survivability will skyrocket." Ye Feng explained.
Ever since their trip to the Star Dou Great Forest, Ye Feng hadn't been able to shake the way Dragon Lord Meng Shu had looked at Xiao Wu. His interference had already changed things, so he couldn't predict how the future would play out. Now, by giving Xiao Wu the Purple Cloud Wings, at least she'd have some ability to protect herself.
