Chapter 94: Wolf Thief
Four hundred kilometers southwest of Tiandou City in the Tiandou Empire, a small village lay nestled in the mountains. The village wasn't large—around a hundred households. A few fields surrounded it, but strangely, in the morning light, not a single farmer could be seen working.
A group of eight young people, ranging from twelve to seventeen years old, walked through the fields. Five men and three women, all dressed in red uniforms. A distinct emblem adorned the chest of their attire—a snarling monster's head surrounded by three bold characters: "Shrek."
Shrek Academy had officially been rated as an Advanced Spirit Master Academy. Under Flanders' leadership, Ye Feng's suggestion was finally adopted—passionate red became the academy's official uniform color. Flanders had initially wanted to go with green, but after Ma Hongjun pointed out that it looked like literal shit-green, Flanders changed his mind. In the end, Ye Feng's red was chosen for its vibrancy and energy.
"Boss Ye, are you sure the wolf thieves are gonna hit this place?" Zhu Zhuqing asked skeptically.
"Not completely, but it's our best bet," Ye Feng replied. "Based on the locations of the villages the wolf thieves have attacked, this village is the closest to where they committed their first crime. It's also the farthest from their most recent attack."
"Wait a sec, Boss Ye, that's the opposite of what we should be doing, right?" Zhu Zhuqing raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I don't get it either," Ning Rongrong chimed in. "If we wanna ambush these bastards, shouldn't we be setting up near the most recent attack?"
"That's how ordinary people would think," Zhu Zhuqing explained. "But Boss Ye is banking on whether the leader of the wolf thieves is smart. If he is, he won't keep attacking in the same area—he'll switch locations to avoid being surrounded by the Tiandou army. Since nobody expects him to return to the first crime scene, that's exactly where he'd go."
Ning Rongrong turned to Ye Feng. "Is that what you're thinking?"
"Pretty much," Ye Feng nodded. "From the attack locations His Royal Highness gave us, I noticed a pattern—the wolf thieves strike every two to three months, and they always move eastward. But it's been over four months since their last attack, which is already unusual. That means they've either gone deeper into the mountains, or they're waiting for the right moment. If their leader is as smart as I think, this village is the perfect target. It's isolated, surrounded by mountains, and easy to retreat from after a raid."
Tang San and Dai Mubai stopped in their tracks, exchanging a look.
Tang San couldn't help but feel complicated emotions. This guy is ridiculously smart… He had always thought that since he was reborn, he was destined to stand above the rest. But Ye Feng? Ye Feng was just as good—maybe even better. It made Tang San question his own superiority.
Dai Mubai, on the other hand, was thinking about the Xingluo Empire. If I ever go back to reclaim my place, I need Ye Feng on my side. If Xingluo had someone like him, uniting the continent wouldn't be just a dream.
Zhu Zhuqing suddenly tensed up. "Something's off."
"Yeah," Ning Rongrong frowned. "Why is this village so damn quiet? It's morning—people should be out working. And why isn't there anyone at the village entrance?"
"Shit… don't tell me they already hit this place?" Xiao Wu muttered.
"Could be." Ye Feng flicked his fingers, and a pistol appeared from his storage spirit guide. "Stay sharp. No matter what happens, don't wander off alone."
Everyone nodded. Ning Rongrong and Oscar, being support-type spirit masters, immediately pulled out the pistols Ye Feng had given them. Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ma Hongjun did the same for safety. Meanwhile, Dai Mubai and Tang San brought out their Zhuge Divine Crossbows.
Ye Feng didn't bother giving Dai Mubai or Tang San pistols. He wasn't particularly fond of them, and they already had their own weapons anyway.
This mission wasn't just about hunting down criminals—it was a real battle, a life-or-death experience for the Shrek Eight Devils. To make things as real as possible, Ye Feng had insisted that no teachers accompany them. Since they were only dealing with wolf thieves, Shrek Academy had agreed to his request.
As the group cautiously entered the village, they saw streaks of bright red on the roads and walls. Blood. Judging by how fresh it was, a massacre had happened not too long ago.
At the back of the village, they finally saw it—the carnage.
Men, women, the elderly—all slaughtered. Some had their stomachs ripped open, intestines spilling onto the ground. Others had been hacked to pieces. The air was thick with the stench of blood and death.
Ning Rongrong staggered back, face pale as a sheet. Her body trembled before she bent over and vomited.
Even Zhu Zhuqing, who was usually composed, was shaking.
Not everyone had the stomach for this kind of brutality.
Oddly enough, Ye Feng noticed that besides himself, Tang San was the calmest.
Ye Feng had seen enough horror movies in his past life to not be fazed. Medical diagrams, autopsy footage, zombie flicks—he'd been desensitized to gore a long time ago. But Tang San? Tang San had never seen anything like this before… so why was he so composed?
"These must be the villagers…" Xiao Wu murmured.
She was the third calmest, which didn't surprise Ye Feng. Xiao Wu was a transformed spirit beast—she had lived for a hundred thousand years. She had definitely seen worse.
Ye Feng scanned the area, eyes narrowing. His gaze landed on the mountain behind the village.
"There's blood here." He crouched down, touching the red stains on the ground and grass. "It hasn't dried yet. Looks like something was dragged this way. The wolf thieves escaped into the mountains. We're going after them!"
