Chapter 31 - Cullens

(Hey this is how we learn, how was I supposed to know a wolf could experience too much,) said Dean.

(You listen to me! That's how!) shouted Leah angrily, mad that he didn't listen to her rather than for what happened.

(And now I know, I've learned,) said Dean unapologetically, if this was too much, he didn't know how she would survive her coming heat week.

(Hmph,) She snorts discontentedly.

(Uh, guys,) said Sam hesitantly, to let them know they were here listening.

(Oh, hey Sam, can you tell me where Emily is, I need to see her,) said Leah, wishing to apologize for not sticking around and talking.

(She should be at home,) said Sam.

(Thanks,) said Leah.

(Don't tell me you didn't love it though,) said Dean.

(I didn't!) she denied.

(So, you wouldn't want to do it again in the future?) questioned Dean.

(I didn't say that,) said Leah begrudgingly.

(What did you say?) asked Dean.

(Ugh, you don't get it,) said Leah.

(Clearly,) said Dean, practically rolling his eyes.

(You really don't,) said Sam, feeling particularly mature since impregnating Emily.

(Thank you Sam,) said Leah.

(Hey Sam, I didn't know you liked eating through a tube,) threatened Dean, making him go deathly silent.

(Don't you pick on Sam, at least he understands,) said Leah.

(He doesn't understand shit, he agreed with one thing and suddenly he understands, don't make me laugh,) said Dean.

Over at the border, Jared was on the floor rolling over in wolf form and laughing as Sam slumped further into the ground trying to hide. He should have known better than to jump into another couple's argument.

...

Today was the day they were meeting the Cullens for a joint training introduction, though in reality they would only be watching and listening.

Dean wasn't going to go but Leah talked him into it, yapping about the leaders needing to meet.

"Suck it up, I thought you would be happy to team up with them and have ready and available cannon fodder," said Leah finishing her breakfast.

"We don't need them," said Dean, picking at his plate. He was excited at going into his first full-scale battle leading his pack, not carrying a bunch of leeches on his back.

"The hell we don't, we have no idea the numbers we'll be facing, and I'd rather them get hurt than us," said Leah.

"We'll be fine, I've been drilling into you lot the necessary skills you need," said Dean.

"True, but you're forgetting one crucial thing: we've never fought together as a pack. Sure, you've been showing us what we need in training, even giving us a taste of it with limited controlled fights against strays, but we've never officially done anything as a full-on pack together. What if we run into each other, get in each other's way? We still lack the necessary experience to proceed confidently," said Leah.

"Unfortunately I haven't been able to find another coven near enough for us to go after," said Dean, walking his dish to the sink.

They exit their house through their newly refurbished door.

"Think you can handle it?" asked Leah, referring to his hunger.

"We'll see, if not, at least we have one vamp stored away," said Dean.

Shifting in the woods, they head over to meet the others.

(Is everyone here?) asked Dean.

They sounded off.

(Hope you brought clothes Jake, you'll be interpreting if we need it,) said Dean.

(What am I supposed to do, shift back and forth?) asked Jake.

(If you have to, this was your idea,) said Dean.

(Fine, I'll go get some,) said Jake, not wishing to start a fight.

(You young ones, Seth, Brady, Collin, are to remain within the center of the pack, your goal is to get used to their smell and watch their speed, understand?) asked Dean.

(Yes,) said Seth, (Yeah,) said Brady, (Okay,) said Collin.

Traveling to the Cullens, the smell hit the little ones hard.

(Holy shit!) said Seth.

(The fuck is that smell,) said Brady.

Collin cringed, swiping at his nose.

(Vampires, the stench of death permeates their very being,) said Dean.

(It's only going to get worse from here boys, get used to it,) said Jared.

A few snickered as Embry and Quil began pissing everywhere, soon joined by the young ones, who were happy to smell anything else.

(Knock it off, relations are strained enough,) said Sam.

(Damn, look at that house,) said Embry.

(Why are all vampires so rich?) asked Quil.

(If you aren't rich after living so long, you should kill yourself,) said Paul, puffing his chest a bit after getting a few laughs from the young ones. At least someone appreciated him.

(What's she doing here?) Leah growled upon seeing the girl that was part of the reason for her father's death.

(You know why,) Jake replied.

(I know...) Leah started.

(Leah!) Snapped Dean, cutting off her tangent before it could begin.

Their focus soon shifted to the Cullens, all seven of the cold ones standing there with golden eyes.

"Hi Jake," Bella waved.

"Something wrong, I can't read them, none of them," said Edward.

"I too cannot feel them," said Jasper.

Rosalie glared at Bella, "Did you know about this?"

"No," said Bella shrinking back.

Edward steps in front of her defensively, "She would have said something."

Rosalie turned her glare towards him, "How would you know? You can't read her either, for all we know she's one of them," she accused.

"Rosalie," Esme said in that motherly voice that made everyone feel bad for going against her, making the angry blonde back off.

"The wolves are their own supernatural entity, part of this tribe's history for generations now, Bella is entirely different, a coincidence, and nothing more, now shall we introduce ourselves," said Carlisle stepping forward, ending any further arguments on the subject, though in the back of his head he was thinking of testing her blood against the wolf members.

"How are we supposed to communicate with them?" asked Edward.

Jake taking his cue went behind a tree and shifted, putting on a pair of shorts.

"I can be a go-between for now, I'm sure you can understand the rest are a bit hesitant to trust you," said Jake, tensing when Dean's golden wolf stood beside him, licking his chops.

Bella couldn't help but blush recalling what he did and said last time.

(Why is she blushing?) asked Quil, alerting Leah to Dean's unusual behavior.

Any stray thoughts she might have had were quickly quelled when she heard the unmistakable sound of his stomach rumble.

"And is this your leader?" asked Carlisle, observing the impressive giant golden wolf.

(Dean, you need to leave now,) said Leah.

Hearing his name, he looked at her, taking a moment to register her words, (...Right, Sam you're in charge,) he said before taking off to his stored supply.

(What just happened?) asked Embry.

(He was getting hungry,) said Leah as if that explained everything.

"Ah, did he need to leave?" asked Carlisle.

(Hungry?... You mean for the vamps?) asked Jared.

(Yes, he's been having trouble controlling it lately, it's not a big deal, he just had to leave so he wouldn't slaughter them,) said Leah.

(Shame,) came Paul's quick reply. He wouldn't mind ending the Cullens here and now.

(We'll discuss this later, we came here for a reason,) said Sam, ending the conversation. He moved up taking Dean's place, nudging Jake with his nose to get on with it.

"Something must have come up, Sam here is a better leader anyway," said Jake, ignoring Leah's and Paul's growls.

"We appreciate you being civil about this," said Edward.

Jake sneered, "Let's get one thing straight, I'm here for Bella, and only Bella, I don't care what happens to the rest of you leeches."

"Jake," Bella sighed.

"You should teach your dog not to speak unless spoken to," Rosalie scorned, earning a glare from Jake and Bella.

"Then shall we get started, this here is Jasper, he has the most experience when fighting Newborns and their armies," Carlisle quickly introduces to prevent any more unnecessary comments.
