(We're getting close, I can smell them now,) said Dean, slowing up. (We'll circle around and take them from behind, Sam will take point on the initial charge. Remember to stay mobile, don't let yourselves get caught, and stick together, keep an eye on one another and everything will be fine, we trained for this, we're built for this, they won't stand a chance.)
(They'll smell us,) Sam warned.
(Doesn't matter, they're Newborns, I doubt any of them are skilled enough to tell fresh from old,) said Dean.
(What about the red bitch?) asked Leah.
(It's too late for her to call this off, I've seen how difficult it is for her to control them, let alone make strategic calls in the thick of things. The best she can do is point them in a direction and unleash them, they're basically rabid animals at this stage,) said Dean, doing his best to eliminate any lingering worries.
(They're here,) said Jared.
(Give them a wide birth and let them pass. Sam when you're ready, you'll attack first drawing their attention away, where we'll then pounce on them, once it starts you should act more like an assassin, darting in and out of sight, taking them out little by little. Become their grim reaper and shower them with fear,) said Dean.
(I will,) said Sam confidently, liking the idea.
(If the point is to distract, shouldn't he be attacking from the other side?) questioned Jared.
(Too risky, I don't want anyone fighting alone at a distance we can't get to easily,) Dean explained.
(Right,) said Jared feeling foolish.
(Obviously,) said a smug Paul, taking his shot for what happened earlier.
(Fuck you,) said Jared echoing their earlier banter in reverse.
(Enough, no more talking unless vitally important to the task at hand,) ordered Dean.
(They've all but passed, I'll start sneaking closer,) said Sam, crawling forward.
(Let me know if you see the red bitch,) reminded Leah.
(Focus,) growled Dean.
(I'm going!) said Sam, charging ahead.
(On my mark,) said Dean, setting everyone up.
Rushing through the trees, Sam's jet-black coat and speed allowed him to get right up on them before they knew what was happening, despite some vamps turning towards the noise, none could spot him in time. Taking the head of the first unsuspecting vampire in the battle.
With dagger-like incisors and a grisly snarl like a prolonged crack of thunder, Sam wreaked havoc within their ranks, sending waves of rippling fear as his monstrous wolf as tall as a horse, but thicker and much more muscular, tore his way into their midst.
Angry shouts from older ones in the back cried out for them to attack, and then they were hit by the second wave of wolves.
(Attack!) shouted Dean, heading straight for their unguarded backs as all eyes focused on Sam.
Leah was the first to strike, taking a head from the first, an arm from the second, and dodging the third, her head dipping below the oncoming strike, flinging the vamp back behind in the air where Dean caught it and bit in half.
Plowing through the gathered mass of Newborns, they ripped away whatever their mouths could grab as they freed up space for Sam to move.
The ensuing panic they caused was a sight as they sent them scampering. Taking advantage of it, they went on a killing spree of those that cowered away, many of them the youngest of the bunch, much to the dismay of the wolves who didn't have time to hesitate surrounded by enemies.
It wasn't long before older vamps took the initiative ushering them back to battle, running at the wolves and swinging wildly, crying out for the others to help.
.
Victoria and Riley safely watched from above on a tree with another one-armed vamp. She grabbed his face and whispered menacingly in his ear, "Do it or you'll lose more than just an arm this time, and if I even feel the tiniest itch in the back of my head, I'll tear your face off," she threatened.
"I'll help, I'll help, please spare me," he cried, lifting his remaining arm out, the white of his eyes going black.
"Good," she said, pleased with the results.
.
Below them the fight changed as those that once hid and ran, stopped and turned, attacking the wolves with an intensity greater than ever before. Their eyes still red in the middle, were no longer white as a black darkness took over.
(Somethings changed, be careful,) warned Dean as they had their first injury. A painful yelp from Quil as a vamp landed a solid hit in his side, sending him rolling against a tree.
(I got him,) said Sam, seeing Quil cut off from the rest, swiftly moving through the forest like a shadow of death, tearing out limbs and throats wherever he went.
Arriving just in time to fight them off, yelling, (Get up Quil!) Who got back to his feet and took off at a limp, remembering to stay mobile. He continued to keep an eye on him until the limp went away.
(If you notice any using a gift, find it and end it,) said Dean, running past a vamp, tearing off its arm.
When they started using swarming tactics to try and pin them down, and the overwhelming numbers became clear, Dean called it, (Push through to the meadow, might as well let the Cullens pull their weight.
Each ran, dodging left and right as the vampires jumped at them three to four at a time.
Looking back, they could finally grasp how many they were facing as a wave of Newborn vamps chased them. Despite taking out dozens, there were still dozens more.
(I can't believe we survived that,) Quil couldn't help but comment.
(It's not over yet,) said Dean.
(Why the fuck are there so damn many?) asked Paul.
(I think she got lucky and found a gifted with the ability to control them,) answered Dean.
(Yeah, I noticed some of their eyes went weirdly black,) said Embry.
Breaking through the tree line, they spotted the Cullens standing in the middle waiting.
(Think they'll still help once they see what we're up against?) asked Jared.
(They'll help or they'll die,) Sam growled, no longer in a giving mood. They had to stop them here or there wouldn't be a town or refuge left.
(Where's Jake?) questioned Embry.
(Wherever Bella is I suppose, and her vamp boyfriend it seems,) answered Quil.
(Worry about that later,) said Sam.
.
"Here come the wolves and the Newborns behind them, there's at least 30," said Alice.
"Impressive, I'm surprised she managed to get that many to cooperate," said Jasper.
.
Dean shifted to human upon reaching the Cullens, right as the Newborns burst through the tree line, "Are you with us?"
"We're with you," said Carlisle, knowing now was not the time to ask what happened.
"Good, look for the gifted controlling them," said Dean shifting back into a wolf.
"Well, that explains how she got that many to work together," said Carlisle.
"Indeed," said Jasper.
(Seven wolves and six vamps, against an army of Newborns, should be easy,) said Jared in good humor.
(A bit unfair for them don't you think,) said Quil amusedly, lining up with the rest as they stared down their incoming foes.
(I'd say look alive, but it seems half of us are already dead,) Embry joked.
(Half dead,) Paul snorted, (We should help them with the other half afterward.)
(Easy there Paul, we still have a treaty, it isn't broken yet,) said Sam.
(Do you guys ever shut up,) growled Leah.
(Only when we're eating and fucking,) said Paul.
(No wonder you're always talking,) said Leah, causing the rest to laugh at his expense.
(Fuck you guys,) Paul grumbled discontentedly.
(Stay mobile, stay together, and kick their ass!) Dean roared charging ahead.
They all roared in harmony following their leader into battle with the Cullens right beside them.
...
Jasper used his gift to lessen the fear and other negative emotions in his family and amplify it in his enemies, though it became apparent that most weren't affected. The eyes of some were a strange dark color, likely due to the control the wolf spoke of.
He quickly dispatched all that came close with a ruthless precision that even Paul could appreciate.
Emmet grabbed two at once by the neck pushing them forward, using them as battering rams for the ones behind before smashing their heads together, shattering them into pieces.
Rosalie jumped over the first group, landing in the middle just to her husband's side, moving to and fro amongst them, striking when the opportunity presented itself.
While Alice wasn't proficient in battle or using her gift on command, her fighting intuition might as well have been prophetic regardless, along with her small stature, which made her impossibly hard to counter and as deadly as anyone. The way she seemed to know when and how to move, to attack, to retreat, to slip under and around, taking heads wherever she went.
Carlisle having been alive so long has seen more than his fair share of hardships though a pacifist he may be, he wasn't above fighting back. However, his primary concern was his wife Esme who wasn't a fighter by any stretch of the imagination, though she insisted on coming. He made sure to stick close to her and help her out whenever necessary.
....
Embry and Quil went at them together, zigzagging in sync, confusing their foes. When one was left, and one was right, they suddenly changed direction, the left one going right, and the right one going left, catching many attacking vamps off guard.
Sam no longer able to do his assassin routine in the open, formed up beside Jared, taking out vamps wherever they went.
Despite their wolves immense size, Paul went at it alone, looking far nimbler than any vampire. Ducking, swerving, dipping, and dodging, he snapped off any limbs that drew too close to his jaws.
Dean and Leah fought much like Paul, and though they stuck together, they were both off in their private little world.
Leah, working off her anger while searching for the redhead, picturing each kill as her.
While Dean, on the other hand, decided to test his increased strength after eating so many vamps. He recklessly attacked, pushing the limits of what his body could do. Allowing hits to land here and there, grunting through the pain as he felt his body heal and adapt in real-time.
.
Suddenly there was a howl for help from Jake, distracting Embry.
(Jake!) cried Embry coming to a stop, right as a couple of vamps jumped him, tearing a leg and tail off as he struggled desperately to get them off as they bit and scratched, continuing to take chunks out of him.
(Embry!) cried out Jared and Quil, rushing to their friend's aide.
Not noticing his friend's abrupt stop at first, Quil found himself cut off when the cry went out, growling and snapping at the vamps in the way but unable to breach their barrier without risk of falling into a similar predicament.
(Fuck!) said Paul, sprinting to him, tackling one of the vamps off, swiftly ending it, followed by Jared and Sam, the former of which took care of the other. All three slowly backed up as their enemies closed in, standing defensively over an extremely bloodied Embry, butt to butt, angrily barking, snarling, and snapping at the surrounding vamps encircling them.
Unable to locate the gifted, Dean shifted priority, (Leah with me.)
Dean smashed into the surrounding vamps bulldozing them down with Leah right behind finishing a couple here and there as they went.
Carlisle, Jasper, Esme, and Alice also came to their aid, opening up a path.
(Jared, watch Embry,) said Sam, charging into the fray, followed by Paul.
Quil ended up being helped by Rosalie and Emmet, who were running out of heads to smash.
With the battle nearing its end, Jasper found the target they'd all been searching for, an angry and very frightened Newborn, "Alice," he called, pointing, "There."
Following his finger, Alice took off, dodging through the chaotic battlefield.
Sensing something in the heat of the moment, Paul whipped around ferociously only to stop when he noticed it was Alice, who used his head as a stepping stone, taking the head of a Newborn upon landing and sprinting off again.
(Little bitch stepped on my head!) growled Paul.
Embry healing slowly, couldn't help himself despite being riddled with wounds, (I saw that,) he snickered painfully.
(Fuck you, why don't you have Jake grow your leg back, loser,) Paul snarled, ripping into another vamp foolish enough to cross his path.
(You're such a dick,) said Quil, receiving a tossed vamp from Emmet and tearing it apart.
(Not cool,) said Jared, dodging a strike.
(Pual, don't be an ass,) said Leah, grabbing a vamp's legs and swinging it into another.
(Focus! We're almost done,) said Dean, not wanting any more mishaps. Biting apart the nearest vamp and swallowing what he could before the next one arrived, his hunger steadily growing.
Then the Newborns' eyes returned to normal, and all hell broke loose as screams and cries rang out. Some dropped where they stood while others still fled for their lives, chased by the wolves and Cullens, making sure none could escape and wreak havoc elsewhere, though some still got away.
.
(Jake,) Embry winced as the battle was wrapping up.
Dean sighed, (You're a better friend than he deserves, think you guys can handle this without us?)
(Yeah, we'll clean up, go get him,) said Sam.
(And would someone stick his limbs back on so he doesn't have to regrow them,) said Dean.
(We can do that?) asked Sam.
(Of course, might have to bite it back open though, we'll be back as soon as we can, and don't let them burn the bodies, Leah, let's go!) said Dean, sprinting towards the direction they heard the howl from.
