MARCUS
The bakery had ben closed for a week now.
I hadn't paid much mind to it the first day, but when the days kept stretching and melding into one another and Ciara was still not there, I knew something was wrong.
It couldn't be because of the kiss, right?
I mean, we had chemistry. There was a connection between us. I made her laugh a lot. She baked for me all the time. We had our bubble, the little happy moments that belonged to us and us alone.
And all of a sudden, she disappeared? Just because of one kiss?
What happened to the feelings I thought we were both gradually building?
A small part of me felt disappointed. I hadn't expected her to run away from me or stay away from the bakery just because she knew I would go to find her there.
But a larger part of me understood why she had to react that way. I mean, she was in a loveless marriage with Noah.
