Fervor wasn't stupid, and even without the input of a doctor, he understood what was happening—something that definitely shouldn't be happening.
She was losing the baby!
"What are you—" Fiona gasped, holding her belly as the pain intensified. She tried to get back out of the car, only to watch Fervor get back in, making her instantly slide back to avoid him a second before he slammed the door shut.
"What are you—" she gasped again, only to be interrupted this time as Fervor stared deep into her eyes and began speaking, laying out the cards for her to see.
"If we go inside that building and you lose the baby…are you aware of the consequences we would both face?" Fervor asked, digging deeper to ensure she understood that she wouldn't be spared either. The cold look on his face was even icier than usual.
