Chapter 4 - With Great Responsibility

Danilo

"I'll go check up on him," I handed Daniele his phone then quickly went after him.

By the time I got to his room I could hear sobbing and I was not completely sure how to deal with the situation. I knew as the oldest all my brothers looked to me for those difficult conversations if they were scared to approach our parents, but trust me I myself had no idea how to navigate life.

Trust me my love life was as shit as it got.

The only advice I could channel was from country music and I had to put on that hat whenever Benecio got heartbroken. It happened a lot. That boy had no game whatsoever. You'd think with our genes he'd have it easy. Pa was as smooth as it got and well Pai didn't even have to say a word to get someone blushing. It came natural to us but Benecio clearly fell short when it came to that gene.

I pressed my forehead to the wooden door and once his sobs died down I knocked lightly before entering. Benecio was spread out on his bed like a starfish. His shoulder length hair a mess and the baseball cap he had been wearing since Molly had complimented it, thrown across the room in an obvious rebellion.

His bright hazel eyes looked at me before he let out a hiccup.

"You ugly when you cry," I snickered as I walked over to his bed then sat on the corner. My hand lightly squeezed his shin. "She send you that?"

He shook his head, "Timo did."

"He saw her?"

He nodded, "Said he had to share it. She been pulling me on a damn leash for too long."

I pressed my lips together, "she ain't even that pretty."

"Don't lie!" He groaned, "she got hips that make Texas look small! The most beautiful blonde hair that gold don't shine that bright. She got that smile that make you forget your name."

"And she goes for boys that be toothpick thin too," I laughed, "Trust me you ain't missing out on anything. She can't handle Brazilian boys like us. We got too much muscle for her. She probably couldn't handle how hot you are."

He rolled his eyes before looking up to the ceiling, "yesterday I asked her out and she said she'd let me know. Said that we could be friends for now." His semi calm expression changed to that of a fake smile before his bottom lip started wobbling, "hey best friend."

I could not help but burst out laughing which made him laugh just as hard even though he was sobbing. "You know what forget about Molly. I'll take you to Germany next month. We can get drunk and you'll find someone new."

"I ain't ever falling in love again. This was the final straw. How many girls got to start rejecting me before I consider being like you?"

My eyebrows shot up, "what you mean before you consider being like me?"

"You know gay and everything," he chuckled.

I gasped, "are you being homophobic?"

He sat up and pushed me off his bed, "our parents be gay. I couldn't be homophobic even if I tried. However Pa literally did sob when you told him you're gay. In fact he said he was shocked. I quote 'a gay son in Texas! What shall we ever do!' It rocked his world. He almost took you to church to repent."

I snorted remembering Pa's terrible acting! He had to get water from the tap to pretend like they were tears running down his face. The level of dramatization was on a record high.

"Well trust me being gay even worse. Men be cruel," I shivered.

"I thought you were happy-

"Yeah we ain't talking about that," I waved my hand, "let's go back to dinner. That chicken was good and I'm worried Bunky gon' finish every last piece of it."

Dinner went off without a hitch even though Benecio burst into a fit of tears every time a word starting with an 'M' was mentioned. He was the emotional side of Pa that was for sure. That boy had more tears to waste than Niagara Falls.

"Don't embarrass us in Miami," Pai smiled as he hugged all three of us then lifted us up as if we were still toddlers. "I'll force you back home immediately."

"Exactly. With great responsibility comes-" Pa hit a blank for a second, "with great responsibility comes great power. Don't be abusing your power."

"With great power comes great responsibility meu coração," Pai sighed as he put us down then wrapped his arms around Pa who was holding Bunky in his arms.

Pa looked up to him with so much annoyance his face turned red, "Don't correct me. I know English too. I got a degree too. I've been speaking English my entire life."

"Surprisingly you've been murdering it greatly," Pai mumbled under his breath but gave Pa an angelic smile when he sent him a glare.

"Just climb on my damn jet before I change my mind," Pa snapped and even though he tried not to cry he did as he hugged us each. Bunky barely seemed bothered as he gave us sloppy kisses.

I turned to look at Pa's jet with a smile. I was sure he was the only man married to the richest man on earth who had a jet that was covered in black and brown cow print. The inside was even worse. With cow skin rugs and tanned leather seats that had Bull horns sticking out of the headrest.

Everything about it screamed Cowboy and the bar had golden Spurs as the lever of the beer fountain.

Pa designed it for himself and jet after jet he owned just seemed to evolve that it felt from a spectrum of barn, man cave and honky tonk.

Once we were nestled in the seats on the short flight to Miami I could not help but be excited. I knew it was a little bit late for me to figure out what I wanted in my life but damn it felt like a good time to start.
