I lay back against the pillows, still waiting for Darius to return from taking Charlotte home.
A part of me still burned with jealousy, and even though I hated to admit it, I couldn't stop thinking about her—Charlotte.
She was stunning. Undeniably so. Tall, graceful, with that kind of beauty that makes people turn twice without even realizing it.
Seeing her beside Darius, even just for a moment, had made something twist sharply inside me.
I sighed, running my fingers along the blanket as I stared out the window.
The sky was a soft gray, heavy with the scent of rain.
Why was I feeling like this? Darius had been nothing but loving—gentle, protective, present.
He had stayed with me, cared for me, made me happy even through the pain of everything.
And when he'd called me his girlfriend in front of Charlotte… I saw the shift in her eyes. The tight smile.
She had pretended, but I knew it had stung her more than she cared to admit.
