Kevin quickly thought of a excuse and said seriously
" What, pickpocketing, I can't do that work again. They last time I was engaged in that act, I was nearly killed. Enrolling me in a school is the only best option. I promise you, once I'm in the school I will pay all the bills myself, you don't need to worry about that. Besides I will pay back the debt I owe you. "
Spirit raised an eyebrow and lazily took a gun on the table. Kevin flinched a bit but quickly regained his composure. He wasn't scared and his guts told him that the man infront of him will never harm him. Spirit said with a questioning brows and a hint of authority could be detected in his voice
" And what makes you think we are here to negotiate. We're not partners kiddo, I am the boss here, and you, you are just one of my workers. Never forget your place "
Those words crushed Kevin's hope. What was he even thinking. His desire to go back to school was strong and he was thinking he finally got the chance but that was just his wishful thinking. He lowered his head and said apologetically
" My apologies for my ealier behaviour "
Then, Spirit suddenly guffawed and said
" Ha,ha,haa. You are really interesting kid "
Then, after hesitating for some few seconds, he asked curiously
" Where are your parents kid "
Kevin glanced at him in puzzlement and rather asked
" I thought you said you knew Linda so you might have definitely asked her and she had told you about it. Besides what do you need my parents whereabouts for "
Spirit also said
"I said I knew her but doesn't mean I'm her aquintance. Besides I never asked her anything about her parents. I can't just go about asking the people working under me who thier parents are "
This time Kevin asked in pure bewilderment
" That includes me so why do you want to know who my parents are "
Spirit smiled. Obviously he was enjoying Kevin's company
" You, you are different. You are special and I want to know which kind of a pair could produce such intriguing kids. I need to encourage them to produce more of such kids "
Kevin stared at him with complicated feelings, not knowing if that was a compliment or an insult. Before he could talk, Spirit quickly beat him to that
" Anyways let's forget that. Kevin you are really interesting and I want to know what you can do so upon second thought, I've decide to enroll you in a school. Don't disappoint me "
Kevin's eyes immediatey sparkled with excitement. He couldnt believe the information his ears were feeding him. But even though he was happy, he couldn't help but feel suspicious. He said
" Don't worry I would not disappoint you. I am a man of my word"
Spirit thought of his last statement and scoffed
" Oh already a man "
Kevin said nothing and stood up. He turnedhis head around and said raising a brow
"" So when am I going. You don't expect me to sleep here tonight right "
Spirit answered him with his usual amiable expression plastered heavily on his face
" Oh no. You can go now, you are now a member of the black circle and no one would stop you. Besides you can come here anytime you want "
Kevin then gave him a gaze, a gaze that naturally said " are you mad ". Spirit clearly understood his gaze and frowned. With heavy voice he asked
" what's wrong "
Kevin said as a matter of fact
" If you've forgotten already then let me tell you, I was kidnapped by your people. I was unconscious and I do not know the way here now you except me to go by myself "
Kevin wanted to voice out that " is something wrong your brain " but he stopped himself from saying it knowing he was pushing his limit. He thought Spirit would be enraged by his words but surprisingly, Spirit said calmly
" Okay I get it. It almost slipped my mind. "
Then he called out
" Ron "
Soon, Ron quickly came and said
" Boss you called me "
" Take Kevin safely to his house. I am going to send you some money, give it to him. And....I don't have time for the school enrollment so I'm giving that task to you. Find the best school for him and go on with the preparation. "
Ron widened his eyes in astonishment. He tried to refute
" But....but sir, I am... "
Before he could continue with his statement, Spirit gave him a cold glare that silenced him
" Are you trying to refuse me "
Spirit said in a terrifying voice. Droplets of sweat begun to form on Ron's face and he awkwardly giggled and said
" He,he,he.....of course not boss, I dare not do that, I would quickly do as you said "
Spirit turned to leave but then heard Kevin's voice
" Spirit "
He turned in surprise and hummed. " Mmh "
Ron was much more surprised than Spirit. Few people called him Spirit and he didn't allow just anyone to call him that. He thought this time Kevin was dead but was surprised when Spirit reacted indifferently to his words. Then Kevin boldly continued
" Why are you doing this "
" Huh " Spirit was puzzled by Kevin question and he casually asked
" What do you mean " then Kevin continued
" you seem to be helping me too much. Is there a reason behind it after all I am just a newbie and shouldn't be receiving such treatment. Perhaps, is it because of my sister "
Kevin knew the question was too much but he couldn't help but ask. He knew his question might get him on trouble and even deprive him of the benefits he was receiving but his curiosity got the better part of him. He couldn't understand what Spirit was doing. His treatment was quite different and he had several questions he wanted to ask. Ron on the other hand looked at Kevin in Astoria and described him with a single word " fool ". But again Spirit surprised both of them by guffawing and saying
" Ha, ha ha. You see why I say that you are much different and more interesting. Listen to the question you are asking. Are you not afraid that I would get angry and deprive you of all the benefits you are receiving. Ha, ha haaa. "
" Okay, let's put it this way, your sister helped me with something and this is what I can do for her in return."
This answer made Kevin more confused and he asked again
" But in order to repay her, shouldn't you have released me "
Spirit said nothing about it and instead changed the topic saying in a threatening voice but a smiling face
" Also remember to keep your mouth shut about what happened today. Don't forget we still have your grandma's life in our hands. I know you are smart and wouldn't do anything stupid "
Kevin immediately remembered his grandma and said in a cold voice
" Where's my grandma, you promised not to hurt her "
Spirit smirked and said
" She is probably in your house resting "
After saying that, he didn't wait for Kevin to talk and just said with his back turned
" One more thing, I can see what you are trying to do but don't push your luck that far I also have my limit you know. Even I don't know when I would reach my breaking point so be wary "
With that been said, he felt there was nothing more left and went.
