Darren's POV
Greeting the receptionist at the entrance, I walked into my private elevator. The silent chime as the doors closed reminded me of some moments I had spent in here, doing things other than waiting. The moans, the screams, the sounds of body on body.
With a devilish grin on my face, I stepped out of the elevator and walked to Adriana's desk. She had her head buried in documents that lay sprawled on her table. Tapping the table slightly as my shadow hovered above her, I called her name.
With a start, she raised her head like a curious woodpecker, staring hard before she could finally see me.
"You're here, sir. Didn't hear you come in. I've got tons of things to settle before our London trip. Still wonder why you wanted to rush to London earlier."
"It's nothing to concern yourself with. I'll be adding a few things to your desk. Apologies ahead for any discomfort this may cause."
"That's not a problem, sir. I signed up for this job fully aware of the intricacies, plus the added benefits."
She said this with a wink, and as I read her mind, I could see her flashing back to the hotel room.
We had spent the rest of the day there, only stepping out to grab a bite. She bickered with me, saying I had neglected her for months, focusing solely on Kristin. It was partly true, but there was someone new in the picture, and she was the reason for my present stress. Obviously, I said nothing to Adriana.
She left the next morning, choosing to rest at home while I remained at the hotel. I couldn't go back home to face Diamond. It was better she assumed I was already in London.
I chuckled in response to Adriana's words, letting her know I understood her perfectly.
"For the London visit, would you be heading to the farms and breweries?"
"It depends on how much time I have,e but the farms are a given. Their inspection is long overdue. And as for the breweries, I'll think about it."
There were times like this when Adriana was fully professional, exuding the air of a worker bee. No one would ever imagine that the same woman who greeted me without a hint of a forbidden relationship had once begged me to fill all her holes with my cum. I wore a little smirk as I walked past her desk towards my office door.
I walked into my office while I left Adriana to ponder on my words. I quickly switched on my laptop and all other electronic devices that were in my office. Adriana had already taken the liberty to turn on the air conditioning, setting it to the temperature that was just perfect.
Walking around as the lights turned on, I walked to my table and took my seat, pulling my laptop out of the bag. Adriana had also turned on my desktop, and all that was left was to slot my laptop into the docking station.
With hopes of distracting my mind, I started working immediately after I got seated.
Going through old reports of the facilities I planned to visit in London and looking for any discrepancies that I would need to straighten out with the directors. I could see some omissions and padded-up budgets that didn't correlate with the total expenses they had for that period.
Gritting my teeth, I had already expected something like this when I decided to go through the reports, but it was still ultimately annoying.
I had sacked tons of directors for defying me in such ways. I despised stealing even more from those who had salaries that exceeded what their normal job would entail. I guess I would have to do another clean-up soon.
I looked through other necessary documents and their proposals for the year. There was a lot I had left for either the directors or Adriana to handle, so I had so much to cover for the few days I had before my trip.
I called the kitchen and ordered a cup of coffee with a few snacks to accompany it. Picking up the cup of coffee, I walked around my chair to look outside the ceiling-high glass windows behind me. I had ordered it done this way so I could overlook most of the city and enjoy the beautiful scenery as much as I wanted to.
With my keen eyesight, I feasted my eyes on the pedestrians on the streets and sidewalks, some rushing down the road off to one busy duty or event and others taking their time to walk with soft steps.
I could see the bikers, both young and old, riding down the street with a calmness that seemed to say that they had no worries.
The drivers sped along the road with hardly a care to slow down, like they were running from the reaper; they made me shake my head with a smirk. The caravan vendors at every bend selling different kinds of snacks really made everything look humane and normal, not like it wasn't already.
The Triform had long signed a treaty that ensured that they stayed hidden from prying human eyes. Even the deaths that were caused by Triform members who had gone wild with bloodlust were covered up meticulously.
From time to time, I helped the different clans clean up cases that were either too much for them or would require a heavy amount of secrecy.
It wasn't my job, but I had to do everything possible to gain some points in my favour. They hated me for what I represented: an infallible warrior and a possible oppressor.
To many of the clan leaders, I looked like a ticking time bomb. A man hungry for power and ready to do anything to wield it.
So they restrained me.
Kept me away from royalty, reducing my chances of finding a bride to nearly zero. Telling false stories to the younger generations that never knew of the battle I fought for their sakes. And with the curse of the blood moon, my brides had to come willingly.
I could only watch in pain, gnashing my teeth with tight fists that threatened to spill blood, waiting for the time when the leaders would finally give their approval and drop their ill-founded resentment.
I buried myself in work, hoping to take my mind off pressing issues, but they kept weighing on me, getting heavier by the second.
It felt like I was trudging through quicksand as the next two days went by. Finally, Thursday came, and we drove to the airport. I was in a hurry to leave Transylvania, hoping to be entangled in business and clan relations that would distract me from the problem I left at home.
