He turned slightly to notice that the woman was staring right at him, blood running down her face and a bit down her arm. "You can still run, I got this." She says while struggling to lift up her sword.
Everything is happening so quick right now and I don't know if this is truly the right thing to do but I won't let people die. Not again, not after everything I went through back with Mom and dad.
I've got to be better than the people who killed them.
"Aria! Help me out here!" Mason shouts out while ignoring the woman.
Immediately Aria comes rushing in and she tries to use some sort of ice magic. A blast of ice comes rushing towards a group of the beastmen and sends them back a few feet while hurting. A couple of them.
"Travelers huh.. What's your name?" The woman asks while trying not to fall over.
"Mason, what about you?" He responds.
I should've known her name or listened for what they called her in the crowd but it wasn't my main focus. I was too focused on getting away from everything safely.
"Vae. I'd like to talk when this is all over if that's okay." She says with a bit of weakness in her voice.
I gave her a nod while trying to think of how to handle this all. Aria's ice magic she just used might've helped but there's still quite a few of these guys ahead of us.
There's a lot of fighting to do here but I'm not sure I'll be able to kill any of these things. I can definitely put a lot more strength into my punches against these guys so let's try that.
Mason runs in while beginning to dodge and weave before throwing in punches towards each enemy. Each one stronger than the last while Aria sends blasts of ice towards the ones he misses.
Blast!! Pow!!! Thud!! Everything felt as if it was going by so fast as he continues to run through them, avoiding attacks and throwing in attacks of his own.
Hyup! He uses his hand to push off the floor to jump over one of them while bringing down his leg for a kick.
One after another they started to fall with each passing second as he got further into the group of enemies. It didn't take much longer since they were starting to feel fear from the amount of them dropping onto the ground.
I'm definitely starting to feel exhausted but I can see that they don't have much more in them. I think that we might've won this fight after all, so it's time for us to wrap it up.
Vae begins to kill the ones on the ground with her sword as Mason continues to knock them down, that's when they finally hear what they've been waiting for. "Retreat!!!" A man shouts.
It's finally over huh? The remaining beastmen are running away so I guess that means I'll have to talk with Vae. It didn't seem like it would be a bad talk but she's definitely suspicious about my way of fighting.
Most people definitely would've used magic and wrapped this up a lot sooner. I'll never have that kind of power but my fists will be enough.
The device could've been useful but I didn't want to risk it being destroyed by such a large number of enemies. I don't really have the materials to fix it properly right now.
Tap. Tap. He could feel someone tapping his shoulder. I turned around to see Vae was right in front of me.
"Thank...you.." She says weakly before she starts to fall.
Catch. He caught her in his arms as she passes out. "Aria let's get her somewhere safe and make sure she won't bleed out." Mason instructs.
It wasn't hard to find a spot to treat her since she is a hero and we just helped save this village. They ended up setting us up with a small shack and Aria found out she can use healing magic.
Just have to let her do that, I wish I could do a lot more than this. Born without magic does kind of suck doesn't it?
Vae didn't use any magic from what I saw but maybe it's imbued in her sword or maybe there was something I missed. For my first time fighting against real enemies with some proper training, I feel good.
That assassin back then was lucky I didn't possess the proper skill to fight against them. These guys probably weren't the strongest of the beastmen but they definitely did take a lot out of me.
Mason took some rest himself while waiting for Vae to wake up, but he couldn't help but think about everything that just happened. Fighting against a whole race of people that just hate humans now, what happened?
Beastmen and Humans weren't always enemies, even his mother told him stories about some of their old friends.
A war like this is brutal and I honestly hope it's resolved soon. Humans aren't the greatest but I can only wonder what triggered this whole war in the first place.
Did any of those guys even use magic against me, that's kind of odd now that I think about it. Fighting without any magic while not a single one used it against me.
Do they possibly have the same issue I have when it comes to magic?
A few hours go by as Mason rests and thinks about everything with the war, Vae finally wakes up.
"I appreciate you both saving my life. You made a difference in saving this village too, I could've died. The people here also could've died." Vae speaks up while slowly sitting up.
Mason gets up and walks over to her bed. "I wouldn't feel right if I let you and those people die." Mason replies with a sincere tone.
"I noticed you didn't use magic though, don't worry, I'm not going to kill you or anything." Vae says with a slight smile on her face.
Huh...
