Chapter 43
Over the week, Grey and his mum had been happily doing chores around the house while also renovating certain corners with the coins Grey found on the Bronze Land Planet.
When she asked where he got the coins from, he lied—saying he used his powers to do menial jobs and earned a little gold. He hadn't brought out the entire chest of coins; he knew his mum wouldn't believe such a story. So he just took out two gold coins and presented them to her.
To people as poor as them, even a single gold coin was a fortune, let alone two.
Clara was beyond ecstatic. She got straight to work, renovating the house to make it more comfortable and paying off some of the debts they owed. Even after all that, they still had a few coins left.
Grey couldn't help but imagine the look on his mum's face if she had seen the entire chest of gold.
All week, Grey had been assisting her with repairs and cleaning, using his magic wherever he could. He used his wind magic to sweep away cobwebs and dust and also to chop firewood with ease.
Their lives became noticeably easier thanks to Grey's magic, and he was happy he didn't have to hide his powers anymore.
His daily routine had changed. During the day, he helped his mum at home and practiced magic outdoors. At night, he worked on cultivating his mana, focusing on casting spells more efficiently without exhausting too much of his energy.
Today, he decided to take a break from his usual routine and visit the library, hoping to find more information about the otherworlders.
After getting dressed, he slipped out of the house and strolled casually through the alleyways of the poor district, hands tucked in his pockets. Soon, he was out on the town's main streets, where people moved about with smiles on their faces.
Some were flying through the air with wind magic—though wind was an elemental ability, it was still quite common. He spotted kids attempting to cast spells while their parents cheered and guided them from the sides.
He passed buildings both big and small. The smaller ones sold food, clothes, and other essentials.
Seeing it all—the clean streets, the better-dressed people—he couldn't help but sigh.
'If we were just a little richer, we'd be living in this part of town instead of that rundown area for the poor,' he thought, clenching his fists.
"Mum, I promise I'll change our lives for the better. Now that I've unlocked my affinities, I'll do everything I can to succeed." He muttered silently.
With determined eyes, he continued walking until he reached a medium-sized building. Stepping through the doors, he was met with rows upon rows of bookshelves.
He picked out a few books and settled into a corner to read. Grey spent over two hours scanning through titles, searching for anything that might mention the otherworlders. But he found nothing.
Just basic spell guides, skill books, and historical records of the town and the kingdom as a whole.
The librarian, watching Grey pick up books only to drop them moments later, finally walked over and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Anything the matter? Looking for a specific book?" the librarian asked.
'The librarian... If anyone knows something about the otherworlders, it should be him,' Grey thought.
"Yes, there's a term I came across recently. I was trying to find more about it."
"What term?" the librarian asked.
"Otherworlders. Know anything about them?" Grey asked, watching closely for any reaction—but there was none.
"The otherworlders," the man echoed, stroking his small beard. "I've heard that term before. But you won't find any info about them in a small-town library like this. You'll have better luck in the main capital."
The main capital—the seat of the Emperor and his subordinates. It was where powerful mages, those at five-star level and above, resided. Many served in the Emperor's army or worked independently to build their reputations.
'How am I supposed to get to the capital? Only the wealthy live there. I guess that's what the librarian's trying to say—knowledge like that is only available to the rich.' Grey thought and then with a sigh, he stood up, and offered the man a small smile.
"Thank you, sir." Then he walked out of the library.
'If I can't find anything here, I should stop wasting time and focus on getting stronger.' he thought with an inward smile.
Now on the main street again, Grey began heading home.
"Hey, weakling!" a voice shouted. Grey stopped, grinding his teeth.
"Clark," he muttered.
"Hey, weakling, can't you hear me?" Clark yelled again, striding over with two of his friends.
Grey ignored them and kept walking until he felt a gust of wind behind him. A hand clamped down on his shoulder.
"Didn't you hear me calling you?" Clark asked, spinning him around.
"Calling me? Strange. I didn't hear my name, and I'm sure you weren't talking to me," Grey replied, raising a brow.
"I called you repeatedly, but you ignored me!" Clark barked.
"Weakling," Grey said.
"Yeah?" Clark answered instinctively.
"See? Someone called you weakling, and you responded. Clearly, it wasn't me you were calling."
Clark's face twisted in fury as his friends laughed behind him.
"You! I'm going to kill you!" he roared as a gust of wind circled his fists.
"Oh really? I want to see you try," Grey said with a smirk, watching as Clark lunged toward him at full speed.
