Chapter 36 - Showed up

They looked at Nova's stunned ace and Dravon smirked before approaching him and patting him on the shoulder. "Told you," He remarked and Nova's eyes narrowed as he glanced at him.

Zara huffed with her arms crossed before her chest and turned away. She still did not trust Nova and at the time she had no reason to either, which was understandable to him, but it still grated on his nerves. He did not like her attitude, not for a second; it made him wonder how one would ever tolerate her if she was in a relationship.

The other individual, whom he did not recognize, looked at him with an intense gaze that made his brows furrowed, uneasily. He did not like the way the guy was looking at it, it felt as though he was some small insignificant creature under a microscope.

"What is his deal?" He asked, his tone laced with annoyance and Dravon glanced at him with his eyes narrowed.

"That there is our tracker; he is capable of many things and is one of the most valuable assets within our group; he has a wide range of skills, and his most special is teleportation," Dravon responded, his gaze fixed on the guy, who just kept standing there and staring as though he was nothing more than a lifeless puppet.

"Yeah, I can sense that he is strong," Nova added, keeping his gaze fixed on the guy and Dravon nodded.

"Oh, please, can you guys just stop and let us get this over with? Sooner than later the creature will come out with all of the commotions in the area thanks to those reckless and foolish adventurers that are out there," Zara said, in an annoyed and impatient tone that made them annoyed and Nova's brows twitched in irritation, no one had managed to annoy him like that in a long time.

"I think someone needs a leash and a bone," He commented, his tone dripping with sarcasm and Dravon chuckled, while she bristled, her ears red as she glared at him.

He shrugged and looked away, blowing whistles and she stood there fuming, unable to come up with a retort since they had a mission to focus on and her sense of wit was a bit slack.

"Alright, you two knock it off, she is sort of right; we should be prepared, it will not be much longer now, see the air shifting a bit?" Dravon asked and Nova closed his eyes.

He calmed his senses and focused on his surroundings, expanding the area and his eyes began glowing slightly, as he paid close attention to what was going on around them at the time.

He could feel the shift that Dravon was talking about, the chill of the air, some of the smaller creatures nearby going quiet and the loud noises from the adventurers that were there as well.

"You are right, I can feel it, all of it," Nova muttered under his breath and they glanced at him.

While looking at him, Dravon's brows furrowed, his mind racing with different thoughts. "You are sharper than I thought," He commented, his gaze watching and intent, it was clear he was still trying to figure Nova out and he knew that as well but said nothing.

"How did you do that?" The strange guy asked and Nova opened his eyes, looking at him intently.

"How do you think I did it?" He asked and the guy's eyes narrowed, his brows furrowed in slits.

"I do not know; your aura is confusing and it is harder to read at times, harder than most of the people your age," He responded.

"Understandable, fine it is an ability called spatial awareness," He said and the guy's eyes narrowed a bit as he listened to him, before glancing at Zara alongside Dravon, who just smirked at the way things were going.

"That is a good ability to have; it will come to good use in the future, but also tonight it might just be what we need, make sure you stay with me at all times for this one mission; let us see what you are capable of because in the next few minutes, I assure you there will be a fight, you understand right?" He asked and Nova nodded.

"Good also, one other thing, everything that we will get our hands on tonight will be useful, especially in the black market," He added, making Nova pause and look at him with raised brows.

"Let me explain this part, before you guys give him the wrong idea because the association is playing both sides and the ones they trust the least are those from the order. They send hunters to cull the monsters, but at the same time, they are profiting from their remains. The parts of certain monsters—cores, blood, bones—are worth a fortune on the black market. Some of us hunters, even adventurers, make a fortune off of those; it is what some of us live on, but at times, it depends on the assets, the order pulls their power play, you understand?"

"Basically, if they see something they want and the other person is not willing to give up they use the power they have at their disposal to give that person no choice," Nova mused and the guy nodded.

"Exactly, that is why take what you can get tonight, do not let anyone bully you," Zara chimed in, begrudgingly and Dravon chuckled.

At the same time, the air around them got colder and Nova's eyes narrowed as he noticed the creatures within the radius began getting riled up and the adventurers that were not far from their sight went quiet, as they looked around the area.

"Something is coming; what... Is that?" Nova mumbled as his brows furrowed and his eyes strained to see what was moving toward the center of the area.

"It's here; time to dance," Dravon said with his eyes narrowed.

A loud roar echoed through the air, causing the rest of the lights to go out from the small shockwave and Nova's eyes widened as he heard the screams of some of the adventurers; a few were killed in an instant before he could even blink.
