Meliza's POV
"Why did you let Ethan get under your skin, Iza? It was just a stupid bet," Ruby said the moment we were alone in the kitchen, her arms crossed as she leaned against the counter.
I sighed, gripping the edge of the sink as I tried to compose myself. My pulse was still racing from the argument. "I don't understand why he hates me so much. I just couldn't sit there and let him insult me like that." My voice came out more frustrated than I intended, but I couldn't help it.
Ruby exhaled sharply, shaking her head. "Ethan loves pushing people's buttons, and you—" she pointed at me with a knowing look, "—you take the bait every single time."
I rolled my eyes. "It's not about taking the bait. He was acting like I'm incapable of winning this bet, like I'm some naive little girl who doesn't know how the world works."
