"Just in case, I plan to leave some seals on you, as well as some countermeasures."
Upon entering the tent, Lette invited Emily to sit down while preparing the array.
"Don't be nervous, it's just over thirty."
Emily was startled by the number: "Over thirty! Aren't you being a bit too cautious?"
"Too much? I originally planned for a three-digit number. Unfortunately, materials are scarce halfway."
Lette beckoned to Emily: "Lilith, come out."
Lilith immediately transformed into a mass of purple smoke, pouring out from Emily and taking shape mid-air.
"Oh, oh, oh! Am I getting compensated?"
Lette nodded and took out a small bag of magic crystals with various attributes, holding the other hand above the bag.
Then, under Emily's shocked gaze, a large amount of Light Element was extracted from the magic crystals. The translucent crystals turned a dark purple.
Lette tossed the small bag to Lilith in mid-air, who happily caught it in her hands and sat on Lette's shoulder, nibbling away as if it were a bag of mixed-flavored candies.
"Tasty!"
"Wait a minute!"
Emily, in disbelief, snatched a demon crystal from Lilith's hand and examined it closely.
"What did you do? What did you just do!"
"Extracted the Light Element, turning it into processed demon crystals edible by demons."
Lette explained expressionlessly, arranging the array: "Alright, sit in the center of the array, and we'll start."
Emily, agitated, grabbed Lette's collar: "Do you know what you just did?"
"Didn't I explain it to you? Is it hard to understand?"
"Is it a matter of understanding? This is..."
Emily couldn't describe her feelings but seeing Lette looking impatient made her a little unhappy.
"You're an abnormal guy who does bizarre things but acts as if it's no big deal, making us seem like we're making a fuss!"
"Element separation technique, want to learn?"
Emily immediately let go of his collar, carefully smoothing it out, and finally knelt obediently in the array.
"I want to learn! Please teach me!"
Magic crystals are the most common tool mages use to replenish magic power, but natural demon crystals are mostly mixed.
So-called magic crystals with various attributes mean the crystal's elemental magic content is relatively higher.
Elemental Mages have to endure other elements damaging their magic circuits when absorbing demon crystals. So the amount of demon crystals a mage can use is limited.
Most magic replenishment compounds on the market are basically made from magic crystal dust, so it remains trapped in this vicious cycle.
But if pure magic crystals are absorbed, there's no damage to a mage's body. Theoretically, it allows for unlimited absorption.
If I learned the element separation technique, never mind real battle significance.
Just eliminating impurities and artificially creating pure magic crystals would be enough to make me the wealthiest person on the continent overnight!
Most importantly, as a mage, I can't ignore knowledge I'm curious about!
As the array lit up beneath her, holy writs transformed into chains wrapping around Emily. Lette idly picked his nose with one hand while his fingers glided in the air.
Emily couldn't help but worry: "...won't you make a mistake doing it like this?"
"It's possible."
"What if you make a mistake?"
"I'll apologize to your corpse."
"But by then, I won't be able to hear it!"
"No worries, I've also signed some agreements with the Death God. A simple summoning, I can do."
Emily was left speechless, propping her chin and watching Lette cast spells.
"...closely observed, you're rather handsome. But black-haired, black-eyed people, I rarely see."
"The night gave me black eyes, yet I use them to seek the light."
"You can occasionally say some suave things!"
Lilith, on his shoulder, sneered: "Bull, I remember a few years ago, someone was caught sneaking near the largest nun bathhouse in the Holy City.
What's that, is your light found beyond layers of mist?"
Lette remained unfazed: "That bathhouse was built by me! Is there a problem going to see my own property?"
"The Holy Knight's grand bathhouse is also your business, yet since completion, you've never visited it!"
Lette grabbed Lilith from his shoulder and threw her out. Unexpectedly, she spun mid-air and sat back on his shoulder.
Emily awkwardly laughed, trying to change the subject to ease the tension, suddenly remembering what she talked about with Lilith before coming in.
"Oh right, Mr. Wright. I've heard from Lilith that you seem to have some unspeakable relationships with the Demon Gods of the Abyss Hell?"
"There's nothing unspeakable; better to say our cooperative relationships are transparently priced and orderly."
Lilith shook Lette's hair constantly: "Quickly tell her about your most shameless moment!"
"Thanks for asking, it's called resourcefulness."
Seeing Emily's curious expression, Lette sighed.
"Telling you is no big deal, it's not something shameful."
He cleared his throat and slowly began: "That was at the beginning of my second year studying in the Holy City, and by then, I had already taken on a lot of demon contracts, having numerous successful cooperative experiences with the Abyss.
But due to the disputes over my soul's ownership, conflicts arose between Hell, Purgatory, the Abyss, Demon Prison, and other forces, even resulting in several armed clashes.
You also know, I'm a kind-hearted person, unwilling to see such things.
So I summoned the leaders from each force at the same time, and we gathered to discuss how to resolve this matter civilly."
Lilith suddenly interrupted: "Historically known as the Victims' Alliance Meeting."
Lette ignored her, continuing to explain: "Later I proposed an idea to them called the hunting system!
It means whoever kills me first, my soul belongs to the hunter's force."
Emily was startled: "That! Isn't that putting yourself in danger?"
"Of course, there are conditions; the demon gods can't personally take action and can only select capable commanders to come to the human world to kill me.
When demons enter the human world, their power is restricted. Moreover, each force can only send one representative.
From the moment they enter the human world, they have three days to succeed, otherwise it's a failure.
The first participation in the hunt is free, but if they fail and want to try again, they must pay."
Emily gulped: "That still sounds very dangerous."
Lette chuckled awkwardly: "It was fine; by then, I was quite strong. But constantly being challenged and assassinated was annoying.
It so happened that at the time, the Judgement Court kept bothering me. I also happened to get into a spat with the Black robed Archbishop.
So, at the morning meeting, I directly beat up the Black robed Archbishop, then scolded the goddess statue in the Holy Grace Cathedral for half an hour.
Finally, charged with multiple offenses including gross disrespect, I was imprisoned in the lowest level of the Judgement Court's Black Iron Prison.
Those demons, wanting to kill me, could only madly attack the Black Iron Prison.
For that half a month... I just ate and slept, tinkering with various techniques.
But the Judgement Court was undoubtedly kept busy.
It's said their demon hunting merit in those two weeks exceeded the past ten years combined.
Clearly, I helped them so much, yet they didn't thank me at all.
It really hurts..."
Emily listened with mixed feelings, unsure of what to say, and eventually squeezed out a few words from her throat.
"And then what happened?"
