Chapter 13 - Chapter 12

Why did I agree to this?

I am to blame for even bothering.

'No I am not to blame, money is. No, money is awesome. Douglas, I blame you.'

My mind was debating whether to behave rudely or stick it out.

Well sticking it out made Mr Igwe recognise me, should I fail now?

I have been standing in this man's office of ten minutes, after knocking for five without a response. He is here of course, but pretends I, am not.

I've called his attention, twice, with no response. If not a reply lift your head, or atleast flinch.

Last try.

"Mr Canaan."

No answer.

"Sir."

Nothing.

"MR CANAAN!"

This time my voice got him to raise his head. He looked surprised. He looked at me, frowned and went right back to ignoring me.

'Fine' I thought.

"Since you insist on ignoring me, it is obvious you do not need my assistance. I will be on my way now." I said.

'That was rude.' I thought.

I started walking away.

I headed for the door, with the Exit sign above it leading to the long corridor, the same direction I came in.

My movement had disoriented his concentration. I was not aware.

He looked up at me, to the laptop, and back to me.

He mumbled a soft "Hey." Under his breath.

I kept walking away, I did not hear him.

He got up and grabbed my arm with force while i was walking , causing me to turn quickly and face him.

"I was calling you." He said

"I did not hear you."

"You dropped your honorifics?"

"I did not hear you, sir." I replied.

"Better."

"Can you let go of me. Sir?"

"Oh, right"

"Thank you. Sir."

*Sigh* "Okay, now the sir is too much."

'Well duh. That's for ignoring me' I thought.

"What do you mean, sir? What else should I call you sir, aside from sir, sir?"

"Ms Osula"

"Yes. Sir?"

"I apologise for my indiscretion and lack of courtesy. You do not have to call me sir, but to maintain formalities I think it is best you refer to me as Director, yes?"

"Yes..., Director."

"Great."

He turned and headed back to his desk.

Well, that was easy. Maybe too easy?

Hold on...

'Am I mad? Is it because he's my age? Davina, this guy is your boss! Chairman's son, no less. Comport yourself!' I thought.

I do need to behave, but he needs to as well! Who ignores other people? Then grabs them, and-...puts such a short distance between them!

Atleast, he apologise. That's reasonable. I mean, I've had worse.

He called out to me and gestured that I sit.

"I assume you have been informed of our arrangement?"

"Yes, Director."

"Great. Is there any else you would like to know?"

"Yes, the working hours."

"Hm. Logically speaking, it's anytime I want you to work, but it is basically going to be when any my "persons of interest" reach out to me. It is very flexible and will be inconvenient but your hefty pay should composite for that, yes?"

"Yes...Director."

When it came to money, it was more attractive than a carrot to a pig.

Though I am quite obstinate and not the most qjalified, I am good at the duties, I am assigned and love to be rewarded for it.

So, you would expect how such a money hungry woman, like I would react.

Like I had found the missing piece or something.

I just hope I do not become a glutton.

Of course, Canaan, caught the excited expression and bursted into laughter.

I was embarrassed, but observed that he was genuinely laughing.

He skin, as fair as it was, clearly showed it's reaction to the laughter, making his whole face go red.

With such good lucks, awesome background and eloquence, shouldn't this man be able to acquire the favour of a few old family members?

Huh? Wait a minute.

"Director, what exactly is my role in all of this?" I asked.

"What do you mean?"

"Why would your family, suddenly listen to some woman you brought along?"

"Some woman?" He looked perplexed, which confused me even more.

"Yes. I am not even your secretary and we have not met before, have we? Why would they suddenly take my advice or be inclined to listen to me?"

"Should we say, you are my romantic interest?" He suggested.

"No, Director. That is risky and I could end up causing accidents or doing things that could end up adversely affecting your reputation.

"What would you suggest then?"

"It would be best if you addressed me as your personal assistant. Those types of families do not usually like any one who mingles in the Client handling business. They believe we only seek to gather information and to manipulate."

"What about my actual assistant?" Mr Canaan asked.

"You could appoint her as your exective partner, while I would be called your personal assistant."

"That's quite smart. The first meeting is this Thursday. We will be, meeting a cousin of mine. We start small."

"Huh."

"He is gentle. Well, I hope he still is anyways."

"Would that be all for now?" I asked

"Yes. Till next week Wednesday. That meeting will be held in preparation for our meeting the following day. Till then Ms Osula. It was nice having this meeting with you." He said with a very bright smile.

His smile melted a part of my office cover.

I smiled and bid him goodbye.

While I was walking away, he called my name, and I responded as usual. Only for him to say "One thing you should know, Ms Osula, is that I am not a nice person. I was just in a good mood today. Slip ups and blunders, when on the job, will not be taken lightly. Goodbye."

When he said this, he was frowning, again. As though someone or something offended him the moment I turned, after he said goodbye.

How strange. I am unsure of who my boss is at the moment.

Regardless of that though, I must still work diligently and efficiently.

And no matter what comes up, I must nonetheless forge forward.
