The next day was more peaceful than the first.
We did our jobs contacting clients we needed to and securing their loyal patronage.
Wednesday though, Director Canaan sent me a text saying "needed" and then added "now" after about twenty seconds.
(He gave me his business card right after our 'initial encounter.')
"Ugh." I thought we settled all our matters. He's my boss though and I shouldn't really care as long as I am getting my money. This is a miracle opportunity and I do not want to be thrown of track by some guy who would not be jeopardised even if he decided not to work again in his life.
I just needed to get the funds and help my family.
I took permission from Mrs Shalom and headed to his office.
I knocked on his door and heard "come in".
Atleast he responded this time.
"Good day, Director."
"Morning, Ms Osula. We're heading out in five minutes are you ready?"
'Ah?'
"Pardon?"
"One of my paternal aunts wants to meet with me."
"I thought the first meeting was with your cousin tomorrow?"
"This meeting is impromptu. Even I was not aware until ten minutes ago. It will be a short meeting though, and the person we are meeting is quite gentle."
"Okay sir. Ready when you are."
"The car is being brought to the entrance. Shall we?"
"Yes sir"
We went to the entrance and got in his car. For me, it was a crazy experience. The car we got into was a porsche cayenne. I'm pretty sure the money can buy some people, five times.
The interior alone motivativated me to make build more value and grow.
Materialism aside, I was given a briefing of the person we were going to meet. The plan was to meet her at a restaurant and basically convince her that the Director, Canaan, was worthy of becoming the president of this company.
Although his demeanor remained the same, I could see in his expression that he was nervous.
"Director."
"Yes?"
"When you get there, how are you going to greet your Aunty?"
"...Hello, Aunty."
'Ehn?!'
"No, sir. You are supposed to bow and say "Good morning ma, or good morning aunty."
"Oh."
"She is your elder. Elders like to be respected."
"Okay."
"After a bit of small talk will follow, answer politely and with joy, sir. Then ask her some questions too, like how her family or health is. That will leave an impression that you care for her wellbeing. Do make sure you give her the gift that was prepared in advance. With a smile!"
"Okay. After that she is going to go straight to the point and ask about the recent occurrence, that is, our project being stolen." He said.
"Yes. I leave that to your business expertise. I will step in softly when necessarily. While you are explaining, make sure you make it clear that it is not a big problem and we are working and solving it at the moment."
"And if it is a big problem?"
"They're not investors they're relatives. Even if it is, don't say. We are working on it anyways."
"Okay."
I thought 'He's just agreeing to everything I say, should i be glad or worried?'
"Is there anything else you wish to confirm?" I asked
"No, thank you." He replied.
The car came to a halt and the driver informed us of our arrival.
The restaurant was very classy.
A valet came up to us, and I was about to tell him no need because we had the driver. The driver though, tossed the keys to the valet and said "Don't scratch it."
I stood, perplexed when the Director came and said "He's my bodyguard and top security personnel."
'Wow.'
I don't know how REACH usually picked their employees, but their staff choice was quite impressive.
"The driver's" name was Malik. He was a man standing at a ridiculous six foot five inches. His build was somewhere in between the Hulk and a slender man.
Even with his height and weight, he walked very fast in a coordinated manned and seemed vigilant always.
We made our way to reserved room.
When we got there, Malik opened the door while the Director prepared his smile.
Once the door was opened he froze. I looked in to check whether we had opened the wrong door and I saw the woman who we came looking for, a woman with a smile wearing a blue dress...and then another.
A woman dressed in satin with a very mean look on her face.
'She was not part of the plan.'
I shifted a bit towards the Director and whispered "Carry on as planned."
I hope this does not go in the wrong direction.
As I instructed, he bowed and greeted both Aunts.
The one with a smile, whose name was Nnena welcomed us warmly and sat us down.
The mean looking one, whose name was Nneka remained seated with a scowl on her face.
I found out that the two women were twins.
The conversation was going smoothly, when Nneka shot her eyes at me and said "Is this thing an arm warmer of yours?"
"Nneka! " Said Nnena
The director glanced at me, I think he was checking if I was upset.
I can't really be, I'm used to rich people nonsense.
"Ms Osula here is my personal assistant."
I gave a quick bow and smiled.
"You got one last month." Nneka said.
"Yes. Ms Osula is my personal assistant. Precious is my executive assistant."
"Interesting." She said thoughtfully
"That," she added "does not change the fact that the entire extended family has been asking that you search and choose a bride."
The Director gave a heavy sigh.
"I will be very cross if you do not get a bride soon"
Nnena said "You should really and your words...and your business."
Nneka ignored her sister and declared "Infact, until you get a bride, I will not approve of your presidency. Until then, do not communicate to me at all."
Then she took her things and left with a "Hmph"
Nnena check her watch and left saying she had to leave for another engagement.
It was only us two, with Malik standing guard outside the room.
The Director looked incredibly dejected.
