Chapter 61 - 61 cake and lemon

"These need to be ready by today evening," Aman instructed, placing an advance payment in the vendor's hands. The man nodded with a smile, promising to have them prepared on time.

With that task done, Aman left, knowing that everything was slowly falling into place.

The next day—the big day—was finally approaching. Bani's brother had decided to visit the market in the evening to pick up a few more necessary items for the shop. Before returning home, he would also collect the beautifully crafted garlands, which would add a touch of elegance and auspiciousness to the shop's entrance.

By the time Aman returned home, the house was livelier than usual. The familiar chatter of relatives filled the air, blending with the aroma of freshly brewed chai and biscuits. His first uncle's family had arrived, along with their auntie's daughter and son, turning an ordinary evening into an unplanned family gathering.

Aman paused at the doorstep, taking in the scene before him. His mother, always the perfect host, moved swiftly between the kitchen and the living room, ensuring everyone had something to eat. His first sister's, husband was a man with a booming voice and a knack for storytelling, was already deep in conversation with his father, discussing everything from politics to the latest cricket match.

His cousins sat cross-legged on the carpet, engrossed in a card game, their laughter ringing through the house. The younger ones—a girl and a boy—were busy sneaking extra sweets from the kitchen, hoping to avoid their mother's sharp eyes.

Aman slipped inside quietly, placing his bag in the corner. His long day of work had drained him, but seeing his family together like this brought an unexpected warmth to his heart. It had been a while since they all gathered like this, without any occasion or reason—just pure, simple togetherness.

"You're finally home!" his mother called out, noticing him. "Come freshen up, I'll get you something to eat."

He smiled, nodding, and giving a warm smile to every one before making his way to his room. The sound of his family's voices trailed behind him, comforting and familiar. Even after a long day, moments like these reminded him that home was more than just a place—it was the people in it.

As Aman settled down with his tea and pastries, the two little ones eagerly circled him—one on the left, the other on the right. The younger one spoke first, his eyes fixed on the pastry in Aman's hand.

"Mama, this is different. We had chocolate cake," he said, his small fingers pointing at the treat.

Meanwhile, the older one, janu was happily munching on everything in sight. She didn't seem to care whether it was chocolate or vanilla—if it was edible, it was hers.

The little boy, however, had other plans. With a mischievous glint in his eyes, he stretched his arms towards Aman.

"(Uncle! Mama!) Feed me," he demanded, tilting his head back dramatically and opening his mouth as wide as possible, expecting a bite of cake.

But his mother, seeing through his clever act, swiftly placed a small piece of lemon in his mouth instead.

The moment the sourness hit his tongue, his expression transformed. His eyes widened in shock, his tiny nose scrunched up, and his lips puckered tightly. A shiver ran through his little body as he let out a high-pitched squeal.
