Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 - Dungeons Explained

Luna offered a hand once she knew Ash had properly recovered, "Want to grab a bite to eat in the temple kitchen? It's just like the one back home, they stay staffed constantly and can provide simple meals to those that worship here."

Luna's robes were a lot like Gardenia's, though the gold trim on them had a strange violet cord attached that drew Ash's gaze and a small frown to her face as she tried to recall what it meant. Seeing what she was looking at, Luna explained that they were using the violet to denote that while her rank was equal to Gardenia's she was a Godsborn rather than an Earthborn. It helped keep people from coming to her accidentally for matters she couldn't handle because she wasn't fully a part of their world.

The temple floors and walls were awash with constellations and swirls of magic when they walked in, bringing a slight scowl to her lips, "They mentioned that it does this for you too?"

"I'll have to talk to Lord Sidus about that," Luna frowned as well, "It was supposed to be temporary, to give them time to pass along who I was and all of that. I'd recommend sleeping at home else you'll have all manner of people poking their noses in to look at you I'm sure. It does the same thing when Sidus is present himself so they tend to get curious when it happens."

The small dining area attached to the kitchen wasn't particularly crowded when they entered, just Gardenia and Yarrow. The paladin jolted to his feet as soon as he saw Ash, his expression relieved.

"Ash, you're safe. I," he hesitated, dropping his gaze, "I shouldn't have let you use magic like that…Not when you looked so weak and exhausted."

Ash waved a hand slightly, "The magic wasn't the issue, Ro," she explained quietly as Luna waved her towards the table and went to fetch food for the two of them, "I caught the interest of the youngest of the gods."

Yarrow paled considerably, "The dungeon god. You weren't in a dungeon, were you? Those can be supremely dangerous. You're lucky to have gotten out alive."

Death wasn't a permanent end for the Godsborn but he doubted it was pleasant.

Ash settled, indicating that Yarrow should do so as well, "You have misunderstood his domains, I fear. I doubt the dungeons are his doing alone considering Sidus and Virtus, likely Venatio as well would all have to be connected to them appearing in large quantities."

Sidus' magic was needed as the Star Ash trees should have been purifying any emotion that tainted the magic of the world which would drastically reduce the chances of dungeons forming. He would have been responsible for the magic being able to do so instead of being pulled into the Star Ash trees. Virtus, being the god of Valor and contracts would definitely be involved heavily. He'd work with Venatio to see to it that the dungeons were challenging but likely not unbeatable given that Ash doubted they were supposed to be a world-ending calamity. Lucrum would have also played a role in the dungeons, but not the one Yarrow had thought.

"His domains are the connections formed through both people and things alike, wealth in all forms to include that which the individual considers valuable, and entertainment. He likely has a hand in the dungeons and the monsters, using his power to make certain that they bring in more items of value than the trouble that they cause," she frowned slightly as her mention of monsters brought back the impending attack.

Luna returned with food and Ash spent a while answering questions the two had about Lucrum, to include informing them of his name, and warning them of the interference of the young god in regard to the boar. They both went pale at the idea that they could have had as little as a week before it set upon the town and everyone had to jump to its defense. Even with the Godsborn it likely would have been a devastating event filled with far too many casualties.

Yarrow sighed heavily, "While I am truly grateful for the extra time…It may not be enough for the poison to be remade. Some of the ingredients take near a month on their own and were depleted in making it the first time."

"Why was it out where the Lizarlings could get it in the first place and not in someone's combat pouch?" Ash asked, confused.

Yarrow shook his head in response, "It cannot be stored in any form of inventory magic because of how heavy the mana-depletion on it is. It can pull mana from anyone touching it and putting it inside of something created of magic, like an inventory, actually lets it do so far easier. We had a special pouch we had to carry it in. The Lizarlings rushed our camp and took it along with whatever else they could get their hands on. It's likely, though, that they didn't even realize it was a poison, Lizarlings aren't terribly intelligent after all. One of them probably removed it from its pouch and when they got dizzy they likely dropped it. If the bottle shattered, one of them probably poked the liquid to see if it was dangerous. If it didn't, one of them likely got angry at it hurting one of their number and stabbed it. Either way, they ended up with a poison dipped weapon that got used on you."

Gardenia spoke next, "Do you intend on delving into dungeons yourself?"

Ash nodded, "I feel responsible for this…even if my involvement worked in the favor of Redwood Stars. I want to help when it comes time to fight that thing."

Gardenia nodded her understanding, "Come see me in the morning, then, and we can go over a few more spells that will be useful to you for delving into dungeons. I had meant to teach them to you before…but with Fi and Fel both present I got distracted and didn't want to take up too much time. They're both rather notorious for getting bored and wandering off."
