Kiera took a deep breath, her gaze steady as she met his bewildered stare.
"Nicholas," she began, her voice strong and audible, "I didn't ask for your help because at that moment, I needed someone I could trust completely. I needed someone who would prioritize my safety above anything else."
"How can you say that, Kiera? When have I not prioritized your safety?"
The weight of Kiera's words hung heavy in the air as she laughed with a bitter edge unable to hold it in any more before focusing sternly on Nicholas.
"Tell me, when did you prioritize me?"
