"I ain't getting Adessa to meet Jane. Not until I'm sure she has nothing to do with Rosario. I won't be risking Adessa's life."
I would have punched him in the face, but some movement caught my eyes, and I turned my head to find Jane standing on top of the staircase with a poker face.
"Jane."
"Good morning. Is this the wrong time? I can go upstairs and wait," she said, looking at me with a worried face and I had to restrain myself from running to her and giving her a tight hug.
"Good morning. No time is a wrong time for you. Come, let's have breakfast."
She descended the stairs with slow steps while looking at Brian warily before her doubtful gaze shifted to me. Feeling the need to make her comfortable, I covered the remaining distance before taking her hand in mine.
"I-uh. I want to work at the club," she spoke as soon as we sat at the breakfast table and my eyebrows met.
"Why?"
"I can't live here for free. I need to find my own place and for that I need to work."
