Chapter 2 - Hospital

Sorry for how long this chapter took to come out. I was procrastinating like crazy.

Finally thank you for continuing to read this and giving me the time of day. I hope you have a pleasant experience reading!

Btw this chapter is going to be kinda boring but not to worry chapter 3 will probably be released in the next few days.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Thump-thump-thump

The heavy sounds of rotor blades filled the empty and destroyed section of Felgardis with noise. A helicopter circled over as a news crew were filming the destruction from above.

"Earlier this morning, the southern section of Felgardis was devastated by a monster attack. Fortunately, the creature is no longer in sight. According to the Chaos Agency's Monster Tracking Division, it was classified as a Feral Menace-tier threat—the second-lowest tier.

However, the situation remains critical. In response, the Chaos Agency has officially begun evacuation efforts." The news anchor would say as the scene cuts to Kian.

His head was throbbing and to make matters worse the glass shard had seemingly gotten even deeper inside his ribcage. However his thought process was interrupted by the heavy footsteps approaching him.

A massive shadow loomed over him, its voice distorted, almost inhuman. He barely processed the words through the haze of pain-

"Found you."

-----------------------------------------------------------

Kian shot up from the bed. 'W-was that a dream.' No he still felt pain all over his body and the fact that he was in the hospital wasn't helping him calm down either.

'Did I pass out?' he'd wonder as he started standing up from the hospital bed. While doing so he'd notice a weird slit in his right palm. 'It kinda looks like a closed eye'.

Kian clenched his fist, staring at the slit in his palm. Was it his imagination, or did it just twitch? He'd flexed his fingers, It didn't hurt. In fact… he felt fine. Too fine. He shook off the thought—no point in questioning a miracle.

Suddenly a doctor would come through the door and hurry over to him.

"What are you doing!? You need to rest. The procedure to remove the glass from between your ribs was extremely taxing on your body. You're lucky that it didn't pierce your lungs." The male doctor would say as he gently lay Kian back into the bed.

"Oh sorry... What happened?" Kian would ask as he lied back down on the bed. "You don't know? Well I guess that should be expected... The city of Felgardis was attacked by whats estimated to be a Feral manace tier threat."

Kian's breath hitched. His fingers clenched the bedsheet as his mind raced to piece together the fragments of his memory. 'So that's what happened. If that's the case then what was that figu...'

"Wait have you seen a scrawny kid with Jet black hair in this hospital!" Kian would say with worry in his voice. His hands shaking and him looking like he would break down at any bad news. "No I don't think so but don't worry whoever you're talking about has most likely been evacuated to the capital city Amita."

At that moment a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders. He slumped into his hospital bed as a small smile crossed his face. 'Calebs okay' He would then sigh as he began speaking. "Do you know if there are any more planned evacuations to Amita?"

The doctor would slightly tilt his head and be deep in thought before snapping his fingers. "Yeah the last evacuation helicopter should be arriving in the next 4 hours. But if you're planning to get to it then you'll have to be careful."

Kian would look curiously at the doctor as he'd ask "Why would I need to be careful?"

"Well because of the attack nobody was working on fixing the north Eastern walls and most of the chaos agents were working on evacuating all the citizens. Due to this a small group of about 15 scourge tier monsters managed to get inside."

"Huh 15 of them? Don't they usually gather in groups of 5!" Kian would yell as his heart began to pound inside of his chest. This meant that the chances of Caleb making it out alive to be even less likely.

'Even though scourge tier monsters are the weakest types they usually gather up in large groups. Even just 15 of them could tear through the remains of Felgardis. This could just be a normal attack. But this didn't feel normal. All of this destruction makes it seem like a planned incident but no monster is that smart. Alongside the destruction of the North Eastern walls followed by the attack... something isn't adding up.'

Kians thoughts would be interrupted by the doctor calling out for him. "Oh sorry I must've been really deep in thought." He'd say embarrassed. "It's fine although you'll have to get going soon if you plan to make it to the evacuation helicopter."

The doctor would proceed to begin his checkup looking over Kian. "Amazing, even though you were just in a gruesome accident a few hours ago you seem completely fine and are in no pain."

Kian would look over himself as he started back at the weird slit on his right palm. He's open and close his hand as if doing it enough would make it disappear.

"Well I suppose you can leave now. You seem completely fine other than some already healed scars on your back. Although I'm incredibly hesitant on letting you leave the hospital alone. Honestly, I have no idea how you're even standing. Most people would still be unconscious, but you're... perfectly fine. It's unsettling. But it's ultimately your decision if you want to leave."

Kian nods at the doctor as he speaks. "I just realized that I never asked for your name." He'd say as he sheepishly scratched the back of his head. "Oh, my names Joseph."

-----------------------------------------------------------

The time skips to Kian walking through the doors of his hospital room and breathing in deeply before covering his nose with his right hand. "Ugh I forgot how hospitals smell like."

He'd walk through the hospital halls that were illuminated by bright white lights that buzzed non stop. He'd occasionally look through open doors and see people with missing limbs, serious burns, and broken bones.

'This must be because of the Monster attack... This is terrible. Old man Ross is probably dead along with everyone else on that bus.' Kians expression would darken as he tightened his fists to the point of them turning white.

"Yo Kian, are you ready to leave." A voice would call out from behind him. Joseph would walk past him holding a clipboard. "Oh yeah I guess. I'll need to leave soon if I plan to make it to the evacuation helicopter."

They'd continue walking until they reach the entrance of the hospital. "I guess this is goodbye. Thanks for helping me recover!" Joseph would nod with a soft smile on his face. "No need to thank me. I didn't do much... It's strange though your body healed on its own. Your profile never said anything about you having access to magic." He'd say as he tapped his chin."

"I don't know what happened myself but all the injuries I sustained during the crash disappeared. I don't know if it's magic but whatever it is I'll find out eventually." Joseph nodded before waving Kian off.

As Kian turned the corner he'd reach for his ear before speaking.

"The subject appears stable for now.… but his aura—it's not human. It's a monster's."

Woohoo don't you just love cliffhangers.
