Three words "I give up". Those words can make or break someone. Those words decide the rest of your life. It doesn't matter how strong or weak you are. The only thing that matters is your mentality.
Amid a mountain of the dead, it stood.
A dragon of impossible scale.
Each of its four colossal wings stretched beyond the horizon, shrouding the land in darkness.
It loomed above the clouds, its body as dark as the endless night, streaked with intricate lines of a brilliant gold.
Two magnificent horns crowned its head, jutting in opposite directions like split paths.
Beneath its feet, corpses lay —so mutilated, so far beyond recognition, that not even memory could piece them back together.
He'd chuckle and that chuckle would turn into full blown manniaclle laughter. He was mad, mad with anger. That worm... How dare he! Instead of staying and dying with honor he ran away and escaped to the otherworld.
"He dare defy me, the great dragon of greed! Everything in this world belongs to me! That includes his pathetic life!" If the dragon had a face more suited for emotions, it would be scowling.
"Foolish little brother, you won't escape. Especially not with that power of yours."

A loud roar echoed off in the distance causing Kian to slightly flinch. 'Shit the scourge tier monsters were way closer to the hospital than I expected. If I get too close they'll definitely spot me.
Kian weaved between buildings, ducking behind trash cans at every noise. 'Why am I even hiding like an idiot? They'll spot me either way.'
'Joseph said that the evacuation helicopter would be landing 30 minutes south of the hospital on foot. I should be able to make it in time if I don't get spotted by those monsters.'
A gutteral scream mixed with crying echoed from around the corner. Kian poked his head out of the alley but soon wished that he didn't. Their guts where everywhere. The monster showed no mercy as it ate the insides of a middle aged man. The relatively small wolf like monster raised its head up and looked around. Kian immediately ducked back into the alley.
If it could turn that color his face would be puke green. 'It looked like he was still alive. At least it should be distracted whil-'
Kian's thought process was cut off when a jackrabbit-like monster screeched from a nearby rooftop. 'Shit' as soon as the other monster screeched at Kian the other monster started racing at him hoping to get another meal. The Jack rabbit followed closely behind.
Kian booked it as soon as the damn rabbit screeched at him. 'I still need to get to Amita so I can protect Caleb.' He ran between buildings and made sharp turns trying to shake them off. The Jack rabbit looking monster following closely behind him.
'Its just toying with me! It could easily catch up right now!' he thought when he spotted it's shadow right behind him. Although the wolf type monster wasn't behind him anymore.
As soon as that thought entered his mind a loud noise came from in front of him. 'Shit!' The wolf type monster was now Infront of him having circled around to catch him off guard. It was charging at him with it's mouth hanging open with blood smeared all over its maw.
Time slowed as the wolf-like monster lunged at him it's jaw opening wife ready to take a bite. 'MOVE! MOVE!' Throwing his hands up on instinct, Kian feels the monsters teeth dig into his right hand but... Nothing happened, no flesh tearing, not even pain. Looking directly at the wolf-like monster Kian saw that the monster was dissolving?
Kian watched on in shock as the monsters face started melting against his skin. The monster shuddered, it's growling turning into a garbled disgusting sound. It's flesh and bones turning into viscous red liquid that started rapidly spinning into the palm of his right hand. Coincidentally in the same place as that weird slit in his hand.
As soon as it started, it stopped. The wolf-like monster was now nowhere to be seen leaving Kian feeling way stronger than he was before. "W-what the hell was that". He almost stopped to relax before he got reminded of why he was running in the first place. A piercing pain came from his left shoulder as he looked over to see the jack rabbit monster digging into it with its incisors.
Almost instantly, Kian ignored the pain while raising his right arm and slamming his fist into its head. The monster let go disoriented as it backed up. 'I've never been this strong before? Did I gain magic powers?' A flying kick slammed into his head while he was distracted, sending him crashing into the side of a building. 'I let my guard down!'
The jackrabbit monster didn't stop. It rained kicks into his gut, each blow forcing him deeper into the cracked wall. 'Shit, whatever that absorbtion thing I did was. I need it back now!'
With every brutal kick, the wall behind him split further, cracks spreading like a spiderweb. Kian's eyes darted around—he needed something, anything, to fight back. Luckily a fallen trash can lid laid on the ground right next to him. He used his right leg to kick it up to his arm. As soon he could feet it in his grip he slammed it into the neck of the monster causing it to stumble back.
As soon as it was disoriented Kian tackled into it, knocking it onto the floor. He started wailing on it, throwing punch after punch into its face. Blood splattered across his hands as he pounded its face into the pavement. It tried to fight back but that was quickly stopped by Kian grabbing the lid and jamming it into its throat.
As soon as he did that, the resistance stopped. Kian tumbled onto his back and sighed in relief. "Fuck, I probably just wasted time doing that.... Although." Kian stood up and approached the fallen monster. Kian hesitated, staring at his right hand. Slowly, he pressed it against the monster's lifeless body.
The flesh rippled. Twisted.
A sickening squelch filled the air as the creature's body collapsed in on itself, flesh and bone warping into that same thick, red liquid. The swirling mass coiled like a hungry vortex, dragging itself into his hand.
The moment the last drop vanished, a wave of power flooded his muscles. Kian gasped, feeling himself grow stronger."
The liquid swirled into his right hands palm filling him with strength. "I guess it only works when the opponent is dead? Then why didn't the wolf not have to die? Come to think of it I did hear that magic was stronger when first awakened... Magic the ultimate weapon against the monsters. My ability seems to be just absorbing the strength of others once I absorb them. Interesting I've never heard of a magic type like that before."
"Ah I'm going to be late for the evacuation helicopter if I don't hurry!" He said as he started running south.

A few minutes earlier in another location.
Footsteps echoed down a long, dimly lit hallway. The rhythmic clack of boots grew louder—then stopped.
The door creaked open.
A man stepped inside, his piercing gaze scanning the room. His silver hair was streaked with age, but his posture was rigid, disciplined. A long white trench coat draped over his frame, paired with baggy white pants tucked into polished combat boots.
Across the room, a woman sat at a desk, blowing a lazy bubble of gum as she glanced up at him. She had black hair and was wearing a white researchers coat. She had tight black jeans on and black high heels. Her purple eyes seemed to almost glow in the dark.
"What's up cap." She says in a lazy voice while after her bubble popped. "Good morning Sam, I just got a call from Joseph about an interesting individual that he discovered." He spoke in a serious tone as he walked towards the woman now known as Sam.
"I need you to call the pilot for the last evacuation helicopter and tell him not to let someone by the name of Kian to enter. Afterwards I'll need you to observe the surveillance cameras of Felgardis and tell me everything this person does."
Sam looked confused as she started dialing numbers into a phone on her desk. "May I ask why, Captain? Don't get me wrong, but you haven't shown this much interest in someone since that Julius guy joined."
"I need you to do this for me because I need to see if he can become an asset to the Chaos agency. If he proves to be a dangerous individual I'll just kill him. After all everyone who has entered into a contract with a monster has turned into a monster themselves.
