Cassian had refused to check on Lyra, choosing instead to remain locked away in his room. His peace was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in," he said, his voice cold and detached. His expression remained impassive as Penny stepped inside.
"Alpha, it's time for my lady's medication," she informed him.
The moment those words left her mouth, something inside Cassian snapped.
"Isn't she in her room?" he asked sharply, startling Penny.
For a moment, they both stood there, realization dawning upon them. Each had assumed Lyra was with the other, but they had been wrong.
A flash of her tearful face surged through Cassian's mind, and dread clawed at his chest. Without another word, he bolted from the room.
"Casian!" Linda called out as he rushed past her, but he barely spared her a glance.
"Not now, Linda," he muttered, striding past, leaving her stranded in the wake of his indifference.
