"Oh, I know we shouldn't be discussing work right now but how are the plans for the next raid coming along?" my father then asked Tagryn.
I cocked an eyebrow at this. My father was planning another raid. Enough was just never enough, was it? But who were they going to raid now? There shouldn't be anyone left to raid. He had essentially taken everything.
"Yes, Your Majesty," Tagryn responded. "We'll easily put a stop to the pack that is revolting near the desert border."
My eyes almost winded in surprise at this information. Some wolf groups were revolting? I asked myself.
"Clearly, we didn't take enough wolves from them if they have enough courage to pull a stunt like this," my father then heartlessly commented. "I suppose this is a chance to obtain more slaves anyway."
"Yes, Your Majesty, they are a small group so it won't cause any trouble," Tagryn explained.
My father laid out a map of the continent. My eyes averted to the map, and my eyes narrowed as I looked at the territory of the Teneb kingdom. My heart sank in my chest as I saw how big it looked. It showed all the territory in the south and east of the continent that my father had taken over the years. The area that remained was so small. To think that's where all the defeated packs now lived was heartbreaking.
Most wolf territories were focused in the south and east of the continent as that was where the most resources were.
Basically, before my father's conquest of more wolf territory, for centuries the different wolf packs in the south lived in harmony. The allocation of land and resources was fairly even throughout the region. Of course, disputes and wars for territory had occurred but compared to what my father had done, that was tame in comparison.
My father had the other wolf territories raided, plundered, and buildings burned down. He also killed the alpha and had as many wolves as possible from the pack captured so they could be made slaves in our kingdom. This reduced their population and weakened their pack.
Of what was left of the pack after the raid, they were forced to leave their homes as their city had been burned. My father remained in control of the areas adding them to our packs' territories. The defeated packs were pushed to live over the years with each defeated pack they were forced to move further and further away out all the wolves from the areas with resources. Now they all lived in more desolate areas where they would fight for resources.
"…Good, once we're done with that we can plan on expanding beyond the desert," My father then said.
My mouth almost opened wide in shock when I heard this. My father was planning to go beyond the desert? This was unexpected. I thought now that my father had defeated every other pack in the south he was done but I see I was wrong.
What he was doing to the south wasn't enough apparently. His greed knew no bounds.
There were also a few wolf packs in the north as there were less resources. However, the north was where the continent connected to other continents and so trading occurred with others groups such as humans, vampires etc. the north and south were separated by a desert. And so, the two regions rarely had contact with each other.
Despite all these unknowns I was surprised my father wanted to go ahead with this. It seemed he had his sights set on taking over the entire continent. His sights just kept getting bigger.
My father and Tagryn continued talking to each other completely ignoring me of course. I listened to them carefully as they explained their plans. From what I understand they expected to begin going beyond the desert within the next year or so. 2 years to give a more generous timeframe.
Once they were done Tagryn left my father's lounge after exchanging goodbyes with us.
My father then turned to me after Tagyrn closed the door behind him.
"In the future once we're done handling this situation and I are less busy I want you to do as he says, make sure to keep him happy," my father told me.
I internally frowned. My father really liked Tagryn, he really saw him as a son. I've always thought my father was upset that he didn't have a son as an heir to take over, but I see that wasn't an issue for him.
"I know he likes you a lot so he should treat you well if you're obedient," my father went on.
I wanted to roll my eyes at this comment. It seemed more like he was interested in my body than anything I thought to myself.
"Yes, father I'll make sure to do my best," I lied to him and smiled.
"Very good," he responded. "You know he reminds me of me when I met your mother and made her my Luna. I wanted nothing but to spoil her," he told me.
But my mother didn't like it did she? I wanted to ask him.
"Of course, your mother was too emotional, always showing sympathy when it was not needed. But she's a female so it's expected for her to be overly emotional and not understand politics. You have a similar trait I loved her anyway," he went on.
I felt like he'd read my mind but his response but what a cold response. From the way he talked about I got the sense he loved her but completely disregarded her feelings about the cruelty of what he was doing and was just trying to pass it off as her being emotional. I
"Why are you planning to go beyond the desert? Don't we already have enough resources?" I asked him out of curiosity. I felt he wouldn't answer me at all and tell me to mind my business.
"Rian you forget what I always tell you it's wolf eat wolf world out there. It may seem like the north has no intentions of bothering us but I'm sure they are curious and sooner or later they will. They interact with other continents and species which makes them dangerous as well. Might as well beat them to it.
