The moment the door shuts behind Billie, I pull out my phone, type a quick message to my bodyguard:
Don't let her leave.
And hit send.
Sliding the phone back into my pocket, I take a slow breath. Then, without hesitation, I pick up my wineglass and hurl it across the room. It smashes against the wall, crimson liquid bleeding down the pristine surface.
Kelly flinches. My mother merely raises an eyebrow.
"You will not bring me a bride like I'm some foolish boy, Mother." My voice is quiet, measured—but thick with warning. "I will marry whoever I decide. Not whom you choose for me."
My mother exhales sharply, unimpressed. "And what, exactly, do you plan to do about it?"
I smirk, tilting my head. "For starters, I could remind Grandmother what happened to her diamonds."
That gets her attention. Her fingers twitch against the tablecloth.
