Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Two Calamities of the Morgan Family

Lucas just stood there like a statue in response to Isabella Gray's questioning gaze, his deep eyes void of any emotion.

Standing there just like a statue.

Although the statue was a masterpiece, almost flawless, Isabella Gray still disliked this eldest son of hers intensely!

Not cute at all, like a little old man since childhood, never smiling.

In the end, Isabella Gray simply ignored Lucas, patting Chloe Grant's head, comforting her, "Chloe, darling, don't be sad. Grandma is here. Grandma will stand up for you. If anyone dares to bully my sweetheart, I'll make sure they pay!"

Chloe Grant emerged from Isabella Gray's embrace, crying so hard she was gasping for breath, her shoulders shaking, "Grandma, you're the best to me."

Chloe Grant cried miserably, her voice thick with tears, as she continued, "Grandma, can I sleep with you tonight?"

"Of course..."

Just as Isabella Gray was about to agree, the silent Lucas suddenly reached out and grabbed Chloe Grant by the collar, heading towards the staircase on Isabella Gray's right-hand side.

Let me go!

Chloe screamed inside but didn't dare to make a sound on the outside, feeling utterly scared.

Isabella Gray turned back, "Lucas, put my baby down!"

Lucas actually stopped walking and released his grip on Chloe Grant's collar.

Just as Chloe Grant let out a sigh of relief, Lucas's hand returned to her back, causing her to tense up again, too scared to take a deep breath.

Lucas turned back, cast a cold glance at Isabella Gray, "One with nervous breakdowns, the other as good as blind, are you sure you can sleep well together?"

With that one sentence, the two little troublemakers were speechless.

When Chloe Grant sleeps, she needs a light on in front of the bed bright enough for her to see her way to the bathroom at night.

However, Isabella Gray has a nervous breakdown and can't have any lights on at night.

Lucas said no more, brought Chloe Grant upstairs to her own room, turned around, and left, even helping Chloe Grant close the door.

Just after leaving, Isabella Gray worriedly pursued, "What on earth is wrong with my darling?"

Lucas shook his head, too lazy to say more, as he walked to his room, impatiently pulling on his tie.

Isabella Gray glanced at Chloe Grant's room door.

She was worried but chose not to press for answers, opting to give Chloe Grant some personal space.

...

At six the next morning, Chloe Grant was already sitting at the Morgan family's dining table.

It was the first time she got up this early, aside from special occasions.

In fact, it wasn't an early rising but rather she had tossed and turned all night, crying and staring into space on and off, hardly sleeping, which made her look very haggard.

Isabella Gray felt extremely sorry for her, placing Chloe Grant's favorite mushroom and lean meat porridge in front of her, along with some fried dough sticks and buns, "Sweetheart, you need to eat more, understand?"

"Chloe, did something upset you?" Mr. Morgan also expressed concern.

The two elders of the Morgan family adored Chloe Grant tremendously.

There was no other reason; they liked children but had two "troublesome" sons.

One was always stone-faced, barely speaking a word.

The other was a flamboyant rogue, always dressed flamboyantly.

And neither of them acted spoiled towards the Morgan parents or said anything nice.

Lucas often frustrated his parents with his silence and maturity; he could shut you up with one sentence thanks to his superb logic that made him seem faultless.

As for Lucas Morgan, the Morgan parents did nothing but chase him with a whip until he turned eighteen.

So, compared to the two "troublesome" sons, the articulate, charming, and affectionate Chloe Grant naturally became the cherished darling of the Morgan elders.
