Chapter 13 - Part 12

I frowned. Just as I stepped out of the office, I caught sight of Amanda causing a scene in the lobby.

The security guard was trailing behind her, looking troubled, and doing his best to calm her down.

"Ma'am, if you keep this up, I'll have to call the police."

"Go ahead! I'm here to find my husband. What right do you have to call the cops?"

Amanda was acting like a madwoman. Fortunately, the office had already closed for the day, and there weren't many people around to witness the spectacle.

As I was walking out, Amanda noticed me. When her gaze landed on the young woman standing next to me, her expression instantly turned cold, and she stormed over.

"Have you had enough of this? Come home with me!"

She reached out and grabbed my arm.

I frowned and shook her off firmly.

"You've crossed the line."

"Crossed the line?!"

Amanda's beautiful face twisted with rage.

"You left without a word, leaving behind divorce papers. Who's the one being unreasonable here?!"

"Now, come back with me, or don't blame me for being rude!"

Just then, Sophie stepped in between us, blocking Amanda's path.

"Who are you, Auntie?"

Auntie?

Amanda's eyes widened, and her fury flared to new heights.

"Who are you?"

"It's none of your business who I am. You're the one who barged into our company and caused a scene. I think you should be answering that question."

The two women exchanged glares, and the tension in the air grew thicker.

"Lucas, come home with me."

Amanda's gaze swept over Sophie, and her voice became sharp with command and impatience.

"He's our project manager. What gives you the right to tell him to leave with you?"

Amanda's expression froze, like ice, as she stared at Sophie, who had been provoking her time and again.

"He's my husband. If he's not coming with me, is he supposed to go with you?"

Sophie stood tall, chest out, showing no sign of backing down.

"All I know is, Lucas doesn't want to go with you!"

Lucas?

Amanda clenched her teeth, taking a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm.

"Lucas, can we talk this through?"

"Miss Johnson, I don't think there's anything to talk about."

"..."

"Your lover's still waiting for you. I'm doing fine now—I've got work, and I'm not alone. Please, just stop bothering me."

Amanda swallowed hard.

She had a thousand things to say, but as she met my cold gaze, all the words died in her throat.

"Ethan is not my lover. Lucas, just give me ten minutes. Let me explain everything. Can you at least hear me out?"

"I'm busy. Maybe next time."

I turned, ready to walk away with Sophie.

Amanda's teeth were clenched, and she was seething with anger.

"Fine. Lucas, you're something else!"

"You'd better not regret this!"

Amanda stormed off, leaving a trail of anger in her wake.

Once she was gone, I turned to Sophie and apologized. "Sorry for causing you trouble. I'll make it up to you with a meal sometime."

"It's nothing. No trouble at all."

Sophie shrugged it off nonchalantly.

"I just can't stand that woman's attitude!"

"Let's go. I'm headed toward your place anyway. I'll give you a ride."

When we reached the parking lot, I was surprised to see Amanda still waiting outside. Seeing Sophie and me laughing together, her eyes turned red with rage.

"Lucas, don't forget—I'm still your wife!"

Before I could respond, Sophie shot back without missing a beat. "Aren't you getting a divorce? Soon, you won't be his wife anymore!"

Amanda's fury only intensified. Sophie's words seemed to imply something deeper between the two of us.

"As long as I don't sign, he won't be able to divorce me."

I sighed. "Amanda, what's the point of all this?"

With that, I turned down Sophie's offer to accompany me and took a cab home alone.
