Chapter 7 - Shopping trip

Walking through Walmart, Anna wished to wipe her memories of the horrors in the store. Within the store were more than fifty body parts, human and monster, and a couple of whole bodies. The weirdly disgusting slugs were consuming the corpses of the dead; even regular animals like stray cats were consuming the remains of the deceased.

People were still moving around the place, almost ignorant of the horror around them, wandering to the store's food section. Some stumbled around as if blind. Anna was confused at first, but then she realized that there might be a required trigger for people to have what happened to her to happen to them. If it weren't for what the screen calls an evolution, she would be blind in the dark like they were.

In the food section, piles of rotting vegetables and the smell of spoiled meat practically flowed over to Anna, making her almost throw up. The viscus smell was so pungent that she could almost taste the rot in the air, even avoiding breathing through her nose, making the smell of dedicated bodies even more pungent. Anna can't say that it was unexpected. Like her, those who could smell the festering rot and decay had also failed to hold in their vomit. Anna rushed as fast as she could, swiping the shelves of what she could as fast as possible, not wanting to remain near the smell much longer. The shopping cart she took had to be swerved around to dodge the flesh and scattered cans on the ground.

She had even avoided the Slugs undulating across the ground to find more corpses to consume. The cats meowing and fighting over the dead bodies, both human and monster, once more Anna wanted to cry. It isn't a hidden fact that cats will eat people's corpses if given an opportunity. Cats domesticated themselves, not us domesticating them, so if they need food, we can be their food.

Shaking her head, Anna couldn't help but sigh. Getting distracted by her thoughts in a place surrounded by corpses or anywhere with what is happening in the world will get her killed. Wrapping her arms around herself, she wanted to sigh softly before shaking her head and moving to keep gathering supplies. Most of the food supplies were wiped out, although the spices and salts were left alone mostly.

"Why didn't others grab salt?" (Anna)

Looking at the salt, Anna remembered that preserving food with salt was common back in the day.

"I'll have to hunt to survive during my travels." (Anna)

She grabbed many boxes of salt. Anna frowned slightly as she wondered what else she needed.

"Preservatives, maybe a book on herbs. Most people would probably ignore knowledge like that at first. I'm pretty sure, I think." (Anna)

Speaking softly, Anna thought out loud, knowing that others were there and could probably hear her. What would be the point in keeping survival a secret? Some would hoard it, but when you hoard things for survival, people tend to murder others based on movies.

"If this turns out like a Hollywood movie set, I'm going to vomit." (Anna)
