Chapter 6 - chapter 5

There was an awful sound close by. It was probably from the drowning vehicle under the bridge, she thought. The horrible tune played over and over before she realized it was a jingle.

That was a gentle wake-up for her that she was not dead. Devin was very alive. Why did she think he would kill her? He would have, but he didn't. He saved her. She still wasn't sure.

Maggie was screaming around the place, calling for the nurse to check on her. If only she kept herself from twitching, her sister wouldn't have noticed.

"Calm down miss. Let me check her vitals." The doctor tried to calm Maggie as much as possible.

Maggie, nonetheless, Continued her dramatic wails. " My poor sister!"

Devin's eyes fluttered open as the doctors checked on her. The light was...bright. But all in all, she felt fine and highly medicated of course. Though her memories weren't quite connecting for her. She had no idea why she was...

Kindynos... That bastard.

He either saved her or left her to be found by someone who cared.

" Lynn! Oh my god, yes! She just woke up. I can't..." Maggie spoke to Lynn on the phone as she continued to wail and damage her sister's hearing.

If she was not so medicated, Devin would have asked the doctors to call security to escort her sister. Yes, she felt sorry for putting her through all of that, but it wasn't her in the hospital bed. Maybe if she shut her eyes, she thought, She could force herself into a coma.

" Oh, You're here. I think she's trying to sleep though." Maggie said to someone.

Who was that? She opened her eyes to see her sister having a chat with Kindynos. She couldn't make out his words, so she had to assume he was using magic again. He looked in her direction and smiled.

Devin's heart nearly stopped. In all his visits, she was sure he never actually smiled at her. Removing all the time he threatened her. Was he really just pretending when he smiled?

" Is she okay?" Lynn asked the doctor.

The doctor smiled." Probably just excited from seeing her boyfriend here." She checked Devin's vitals again. " I'll be outside if she needs anything." The doctor left.

Lynn sighed." I'll talk to her after I get some water okay. Stay with her." She ordered Kindynos.

Devin just stared at him not knowing what to say. 'Boyfriend...?' she her face questioned.

He shrugged. " Had to give them something. I mean, I did bring you to the hospital."

Devin blinked severally, unable to respond to that.

" He shoved his hands in his pocket. " You called me Dynos. Nobody has called me that ever. But I somehow found familiarity in that so...here we are. I guess that stirred some remorse in me for you."

She blinked again in confusion. " So... I'm alive because I shortened your name." She managed so say to him.

He looked up thoughtfully, and shook his head." Not necessarily, But yes."

" So you would have let me die?"

He thought to himself for a moment for the second time." Maybe, I try not to meddle in human affairs, like car accidents. You're an exception."

" Am I supposed to be flattered? You caused the accident!"

" What matters is that you didn't fall off the bridge and die."

Devin wanted to hit him so badly. Here she was, with Six-foot two of beautiful standing over her, with the most beautiful flowers in hand. Nothing coming out his mouth seemed to be a percent of good. He really would have let her die if he wasn't obsessed with her for some strange reason. Suddenly being in any form of agreement with him seemed more and more like a bad idea.

From the look on his face she could tell he was waiting for her to repay him by agreeing to his sketchy deal. Nothing about him was right. If it wasn't the fact that he had powers, it was the fact that he's heartless. Those were both valid reasons to be afraid of him.

" You don't trust me," He finally said through the silence. " Good. Because I don't give a fuck anymore. Being nice didn't convince you so maybe this will."

She remained silent.

" I think that you should make up your mind soon," He placed the flowers in the vase beside her. " Because I'm running out of patience. And soon you'll be begging me to have left you on that bridge." He turned away to leave.

" Wait!" She stopped him. " What do mean by that?" She could not hide her confusion from her face.

He smiled coyly. " You'll realize in time."

" Dynos!"

Suddenly she found herself in her back in her own room, wrapped up in her own blanket. She was stunned.

He did again.

Infuriated, she threw the covers off her. He threatened her this time. He would try something this time. What would he do? Kill her for noncompliance? She hadn't done anything to garner all this attention from him in the first place. There was no reason for him to have been this hellbent on her making wishes. But if he spent as long as he said he did on earth, he must be desperate to get back. Or the very least insane. If all he needed was to go home, why did he need her?

As she made her way to kitchen, she realized whatever he did had made her stronger. She didn't feel the lethargy she always felt whenever she got out of bed. In fact she felt energetic. Which was strange.

Her phone rang. It was Lynn.

She was surprised. All thoughts of her friends and family never crossed her mind this entire time. Her mind was occupied with Dyno's last words. The bastard was messing with her. Still, she was sure; of him or if she wanted to speak to anyone at the moment.

She left the phone. But rang again, and again, and again. Devin sighed tiredly as she walked over to answer her phone. " Lynn..."

" Why didn't you answer? Did you slip on the bathroom floor or something?" Lynn asked in her most concerned voice.

" I was just tired." She lied.

" Too tired to pick up your phone?"

She threw her head back and shut her eyes. " I'm not in the mood for this Lynn."

Lynn paused on the other end.

" Lynn...?"

" Oh... I just never heard you talk back so quickly like that. I don't know how to respond."

" Oh." Was all Devin could say. She didn't know how to respond either.

Devin had always thought she was tough. She moved out of her sad terrible household, she fought her sister all the time. Not to mention she never hid her mind from anyone: except Lynn.

Lynn was a force. A force that disheveled the lives of everyone close to her. Devin didn't remember how long it had been like that but she never denied Lynn anything. Even when it was hard for her.

" Well... Ross wanted to tell you but I decided to call myself to tell you the good news. I can call later if this is bad time?"

" No Lynn. I was just tired that's all. What's up?"

" A friend of a friend needs a brunette for her product launch next week. A brunette model." She sighed. " It's good news but you also just got out of the hospital so I can call and tell them you'll pass-"

" I'm fine! I'll definitely do it, send me the contact."

" Are you sure?" Lynn sounded hesitant.

" Lynn... Just send it. I'll call you in a bit." Devin hung up.She giggled and kicked her feet around the house like a crazy person.

She just got out of the hospital, but she was fine. Fine enough to take the job. She got slightly embarrassing when she realized she was this excited over such a little thing.

" Happy?"

Her happiness cut short when she realized Dynos was standing by the kitchen counter. Her disdain was more than evident on her face. Devin positioned herself behind the sofa." What are doing here?"

" You knew I would show up. Why are you acting all surprised?"

She couldn't help but be surprised. He normally took a week or two before showing back up. Seeing him two times in one day was a first.

" Have you made up your mind yet?"

Her brows furrowed. " It hasn't even been an hour."

He frowned." I think you don't realize just how long you've been asleep Devin. It's been two weeks."

She gasped and slapped her mouth shut. In her mind she was awake till she appeared home. Her eyes shot daggers at Dynos as realization hit her. " You spelled me."

He tilted his head to the side. " I don't spell, Don't mix me up for some magician." He stepped closer to her. " So..? Decision...?"

" You forced me to sleep! AGAIN?"

" You're digressing."

" You're invading. You are invading my life!" She choked out. " I never asked for any of this, and you are being unreasonable. I don't owe you anything!"

" You owe your life, Devin."

With confidence and rage she marched towards, leaving no space between them. " I never asked for that... Or this." She shook her head as she looked up at him. " You should have left me on that bridge, Dynos."

He flinched backwards as of her words now offended him. " Don't call me that."

Her blinded anger wanted to test his patience. " What? Dynos is what gets you mad! You're name is too freaking long anyway. DYNOS, DYNOS, DYNOS!" She stressed his name to aggravate him. Surely now he would understand what it meant to cross the line.

They were suddenly back at the bridge. It was still under construction from the looks of it, but no one was there. Part of the bridge had splatters of blood right under her feet. Herblood.

She turned back to him in utter disgust. He stared back at her unfazed. She thought surely, he was making a very bad joke. " Are you being serious right now?"

" You said I should leave you here, and unlike you, I actually pay a lot of attention."

" But-"

His eyes met hers in a fiercly, with a trace of humor. She felt a piercing pain on her side that instant. She screamed and crumbled to the ground, unable to maintain her stance. " What are you-"

" Dislocated shoulder and a HUGE swollen knee."

" Stop!" she wailed. The pain was so intense to rolled and laid her back on the tarred road. " Stop..." Her body was falling in line with his words.

" I should stop?" he walked over to where she laid. " I'm sure you had much more than this then, considering the fact that you were bleeding all over. I haven't even started with your head. Your skull..." He paused and glanced over the top of her head. He traced a line from it's center to her right ear. " There was a fracture right here... If I give that back to you, will that be alright, Devin?" He asked in a teasing tone.

The pain was already too much for her. She tried to remember what it felt like when she laid here before. She remembered it not being this painful that was sure. Even though it mostly the part that her nerves weren't working anymore. If he gave her back any more broken parts, she would die from the shock, and she wasn't going to die like this.

" You are the devil."

He mocked in a low voice. " Are those really going to be your last words?"

She sucked in slow breaths, hoping to relieve the immense pain she felt. " Stop it."

" Is that your first wish?"

All she could think about at that moment was ending whatever this man was forever. She would not be able to that if she was dead. She could imagine everyone coming to the funeral shaking their heads at her grave in pity. They would mention her parents and say that she could not survive without her grandparents.

" I wish that you let me live." she said suddenly, giving up. With tears falling down from her eyes she begged. " Let me live."

Dynos looked at her, almost unbelievably. Then gave the look of satisfaction. " At least your not completely reckless." He stood and took a step back, and freed her from any pain she felt, returning her back to her original state.

It took a few seconds for her to heal. When she did, she stood up, dusted herself off and walked up over to Dynos.

She swung a punch as hard as she could on across his jaw. His face turned in the direction of the swing, leaving nothing but a tiny bruise.

He faced her, with an unfazed look that drove her insane. " You know... that could never truly hurt me Devin, not as much as you would like it to." His brazen comment made Devin want to scream

She bit her lip in frustration, " Well... I'd rather try and fight with all my might, than let a demon like you kill me!"

Tears were still flowing out of her eyes. She was exhausted. She stared up at him with quivering lips. " I hate you."
