Chapter 26 - Lucas's POV

"What if the answer to your question isn't from any of those probabilities?" she asked.

"What other instance is there?" I asked her.

"The part where I died and my body couldn't be found," she said. "After they heard I fell into the receiver below, they waited with bated breath to hear that you had found me. But as the days went by, and I didn't return or wasn't brought back to your house, it was very much clear that I had drowned and sunk to the bottom. That was the price for my freedom. So what the hell were they even staying for?"

I said nothing.

"Every woman like me needs to have their rights and that needs to be understood. By the man who claims to own them. If not, then their rights are nothing."

I thought about that while she turned back to look towards the river. She looked so pristine. Well, was that even the word? Pristine?

She was so innocent as she stood there. Clara didn't look so much as she did when she first came to my house. In fact, she looked even more better.
