That night, Jaden stared at his phone.
He had messaged Abby twice. No reply.
He tried calling. Straight to voicemail.
He stared at the screen, heart pounding.
Something was wrong.
Then—finally—a message came in.
Abby:Hey. I'm okay. Just need space. It's getting hard to watch all of this from here.
Jaden's chest tightened.
He typed a reply. Then deleted it.
Typed again. Deleted.
Finally, he sent:
Jaden:I miss you. That hasn't changed.
He stared at the screen long after the message went through.
He had survived so much inside Iron Stride.
But losing Abby?
That might break him.
