Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 6:"Brother?! You’ve Got to Be Kidding Me!"

NADIA

Brother?

It is a joke, right?

I look between the two men to gauge their reactions.

Asher was glaring at Maxwell furiously. If a man could die from a death glare, Max would definitely be six feet under the ground.

"Did you say, brother?" I asked, trying to convince myself that I heard the wrong thing the first time.

Maxwell turned, smiling at me weirdly, "Yes, Nadia. Meet my baby brother, Asher Black."

I didn't have the chance to react before Asher pounced on Max, sending him a blow that knocked him to the ground.

A scream ripped out of me and I helplessly watched in horror as the two brothers fought brutally.

I didn't know what to do to stop them. My legs were frozen in place...my brain had gone on a short break...my mouth couldn't do anything but gap at the men.

When I finally moved, I knew I couldn't get in-between them. I would get severely hurt if I even attempted to separate them.

I loved around, hoping and praying that someone was going to help me put the boys apart. That was when I noticed that we had attracted a crowd.

The members of Asher's pack were all gathered around, watching the duel without attempting to separate them. They watched them with eager eyes, checking to see who would dominate the other.

I was surprised by their reaction. I truly hoped someone would come forward and settle the ridiculous fight that broke out. They all just witnessed everything go down without trying to protect or defend their Alpha.

"Please, someone should keep them apart." They didn't even spare me a glance after my outburst. It was like I was invisible to them or my presence didn't matter to any of them.

Asher wasn't winning the fight. He wants even close to doing as much damage as Maxwell had. I could tell he found everything amusing because he simply dodged every of Asher's attacks like they were nothing but harmless play from a child.

Asher was attacking Maxwell the whole night while the other just acted like he was having fun.

They kept going on with it until Asher landed a big punch on Maxwell's jaw. In retaliation, Max hit Asher on the stomach.

Horror strikes me as I feel pain in my stomach. I find myself coughing, gasping for breath and wheezing in pain.

I didn't want to believe it but the truth was very obvious. The hit had just reflected in my body.

I couldn't wrap my head around the concept but I knew I could feel what my Asher felt. It was strange that I would feel Asher's emotions and pain since he rejected me already.

Usually, a mate feels a flicker of his or her partner's emotions before the mating process is finalized. When it has been completed, the mate would feel everything the other partner felt.

In the case of rejection, the bond was broken temporarily. The bond becomes fully destroyed if the rejected partner accepts the rejection. I haven't accepted Asher's rejection which meant that the bond is only temporarily suspended. I shouldn't be feeling his emotions the way I am.

Asher quickly recovered from the blow but I didn't. When Max hit him again, my legs buckled and gave out.

Max was doing a lot of damage to Asher and I knew I would continue to be at the receiving end of the torture if I didn't stop them.

Rushing into their mist wasn't the best idea but it was the only thing I could come up with. I don't think twice before rushing in and yelling at the top of my lungs.

I was expecting to get hit once or twice before they stop but to my surprise, Asher stops his attack on Maxwell immediately. His hands are midair when he halts, his eyes moving to me in an angry glare.

"Get out of the way," he orders but I don't move an inch.

I stay rooted in my spot, hands folded and returning his glare.

I have lots of questions for them both and I wasn't sure which to start with. Something told me another fight might break out if I ask the wrong question. I obstruct them from touching until I am sure Asher was calm enough to control himself.

The words tumble out of my mouth before I could stop myself, my own anger suddenly surfacing. "What the hell is going on? I want to believe Maxwell was joking when he said you are brothers. It was a joke, right?"

But it wasn't a joke. Everything Maxwell said was true. I didn't even need them to confirm it before I understood that truly, they are brothers.

It was so stupid that I missed a detail so obvious. I wonder how stupid and desperate I was to fall into such a trap.

The similar grey eyes. The jet black hair. The irresistible handsomeness. The buff look. The gait. The height. Even the slanting nose and the shape of their lips. Everything was so similar that even a half blind person wouldn't miss it.

It baffled me how I blatantly missed such an obvious detail.

As if I wasn't feeling stupid enough, I suddenly remembered the surname. They have the same surname. Blacks. They are the legendary black brothers who hated themselves for reasons best known to them.

It was then that Maxwell's familiarity with the pack suddenly clicked in. I kept wondering why the most dangerous Pack in the world that wouldn't hesitate to kill an intruder, irrespective of where they are from or their reason for walking into the pack, let Max magnetically walk in, even after killing a warrior, without trying to stop him.

It also made sense why the pack members didn't try to stop them while they fought. They just let them battle their beef out.

"My office now, " Asher orders me, walking away and expecting me to follow him.

A smile spread on my face, the thought that he is finally going to accept me making my day.

If only I knew what was in store for me.
