Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7:"Trapped Between Brothers"

NADIA

Walking into Asher's office was like walking into a lion's den. Everything screamed 'danger.' The walls of his office were painted black, an apt reminder of his horribly dark personality. Everything in his office was a stark contrast to a professional setting.

It was as if he was trying to throw people off and force them out of his space.

On his walls were weapons organized like collections of something lovely. Arrows, spares guns and every type of weapons werewolves used in fighting battles were arranged on the walls like a trophy.

To sum it all, his office was nothing to write home about.

He didn't acknowledge me for a while. He just paced, turning everything he could get his hands on upside down. It was obvious that he was furious at me but I didn't understand why.

Yes, this was what I expected when I came here but I never predicted that his fury would last this long. I was expecting him to be so angry and jealous that he would mark me on a spot. He didn't do any of those. Instead, he looked like he was about to break my bones into a million little pieces.

"Do you know what you just fucking did?" He yelled, walking towards me, his hands stretched out and curled in a fist. He was threatening me with his fist but I knew he wouldn't hit me.

He was simply angry.

"Brought my mate, who just happened to be a member of this pack back?" I said in a question-like manner.

I am not sure of my answer because I don't know what I have brought upon the pack.

It is very obvious that Asher hatred for Maxwell is more than he can control but I had no idea why they are at strife.

"Your mate? You mate?" He repeated, not believing his ear. "Are you out of your goddamn mind? You went after my brother? Do you have any idea how dangerous he is?" He yelled while running his hands through his hair.

From my experience and observation, Asher is more dangerous and deadly than his brother.

If he could beat up his own mate for no reason at all, I wonder what damage he would do to someone else. Maxwell treated and took care of me after Asher damaged my soul and body and yet, he has the audacity to tell me that he brother is dangerous.

He is obviously delusional.

"Maybe I wouldn't have been pushed to Maxwell's hands if you accepted me and treated me right," I retorted through gritted teeth.

"Fuck," he exclaimed, punching the wall closet to him.

When he comes back to my presence, his eyes are so soft that I almost couldn't recognize him. Gone were the harshness I have come to associate him with within the short time frame I have known him for.

He placed his hands on my cheek softly, running his hands soothing over the back of my neck.

I don't know what to make of his behavior but I happily accept it. After all, that is what I want.

The plan was to use Maxwell to make Asher jealous and I think I succeeded.

"Don't do this, please..."

He trailed off, racking his brain to remember my name before realizing that he never knew it.

I can't recall telling him my name but I highly doubt I did. It isn't like he gave me a chance to anyway.

"Nadia," I input, turning to mush under his delicate touch.

"Don't do this, Nadia. Maxwell is dangerous. He is always up to no good. Leave now that you can before you go deep into it and you won't be able to come out. I might not like you but I wouldn't let my enemy walk into Maxwell's trap."

His voice was so soft and soothing, and sincerity was shining in his eyes even after speaking but I am unable to fall for his words.

Something about everything happening doesn't sit right and even make any sense.

Why would Max, the elder brother and legal heir to the throne turn rogue while the younger and obviously weaker brother ruled in his stead. I couldn't wrap my head around the concept and I knew that I could never trust his words until I knew the truth.

"Why?" I whisper, still relaxed in his touch. "Why should I be careful of Maxwell when he has shown me nothing but love since I walked into this pack. You hurt me, asked your warriors to beat me up, left me to die and threatened to kill me if I refused to accept your rejection but yet, you expect me to believe that you are the good guy and Maxwell is the devil? Give me a reason I should believe you."

And just like that, any atom of warmest left his eyes like it was never there in the first place.

His look became guarded, emotionless and completely heartless. The change happened so fast that I found myself cowering in fear.

Asher was like an uncrackable code. The more I try to understand him and the reason he acts the way he does, the more I get confused.

"Get out."

I didn't hesitate before turning around and walking out, any trust I had for his words vanishes with every step I take.

I wanted to accept his rejection but first, I need an explanation from Max.

It is quite obvious that two brothers are in a dangerous siblings feud. Something tells me that Max knew I am Asher's mate and that is why he offered to date me. He did it not because he genuinely likes me but just to get on his brother's nerves.

It was funny how low he is stooping and I need an answer for why he would use me like that.

A hand grabs me, stopping all my movements. When I turn around, I'm faced with a soft looking Asher, a pleading look in his eyes.

He is about to say something to me when Maxwell walks in, a mischievous smirk on his face.

The look on Asher's face on sighting his brother is all I need to know that things won't end well for me.
