Cherreads

Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

The second born to Nyx and Erebus, and their 1st daughter of the children is Hemara, the personification of day as earlier stated. She is a goddess that is proud to be in charge of ensuring her mother returns home for a rest while she brings about the light of day. For this Nyx is grateful but also sad as this makes it seem that she is the least favorite child since she never has time to spend with her parents, especially her mother. They only get to chat briefly and in passing but Nyx still cherishes it even if she doesn't act like she cares one way or the other. Since day is the time when Hemera is the strongest due to it being so bright too, she does what she can to ensure that when night arrives it is hopefully an eventless night for her mother.

Hemera has a lovely and bright personality, very much a social butterfly if you will. She is naturally a very happy, kind, and positive young goddess. Due to her personality she instantly brightens a space up when she enters. Sadly she is a bit naive due to being as sheltered as her parents can allow her to be, a lot of the credit goes to her husband and brother. Aether will look after her during the day from his place above Mt. Olympus. While Erebus will look after her when she returns to her mothers mansion in Tartarus at night. Because she is one of the two positive personalities that they gave birth to, Nyx and Erebus try to keep them more protected than the rest of the children that are born for the negative aspects of life. It doesn't matter that Nyx and Erebus are the personifications of night and the shadows and darkness, they are also parents so they, like any parent, want the best for their children.

And for this reason Hemara agreed to not have contact with the mortals, since her parents are worried that something bad may happen to her. They especially worry that some mortal man may trick her and then imprison her somewhere due to her being a little naive. They also worry that something will happen to her because she is so kind. But they mostly are worried because she has divine authority, total control, over the light and any place that is bright. This would be terrible if it ever fell into the wrong hands, and they have enough problems with some of the gods. Another thing they worry about is if something does happen to Hemara then her husband and elder brother would probably go absolutely crazy and possibly do something absolutely crazy! One because she is his sister but the more important reason being that Hemera is his wife as well.

Hemara has beautiful golden blonde hair that goes to her mid back that she wears in a braid with a sunflower behind her left ear. She has clear pale blue eyes like a mirror because they are so clear. She is just naturally beautiful like the other goddesses in our ever expanding family. Her dress is a bright blue trimmed in a glittery gold. It is adorned with beautiful orange butterflies that have little crystals on the wings to represent white dots on the wings. The butterflies adorn the dress all over to look like they are landing on the sunflowers. There is also a line of yellow sunflowers from the left shoulder down to her right hip before it circles around to go up her back to touch where it began. These things are to represent the liveliness of the day as well as the sunflower is Hemera's symbol and her favorite flower.

Her room in the Night Mansion has been decorated with sunflowers that were a gift from her mother. Her father came up with a special way to keep their daughter's room bright and lively so she doesn't feel depressed when she's at home. Even if it is just during the night, both her parents understand that she needs this to successfully be able to bring the day. Before they decided that this was necessary to do, most mornings were gloomy until about mid-day when she had recharged in a manner of speaking.

Unfortunately the Oracles have already prophesied that the lovely Hemera will eventually be forgotten by the ancient Greeks of Greece and later mostly the world. This happens when some tragic poets mistake her for Eos. This will lead to everyone in history to eventually forget that she even existed as her role was taken over by Eos. Thankfully when this happens Hemera will have been doing her job for probably a thousand years give or take, so she shouldn't be too upset that she is now free to slack off a little.

As stated earlier Hemera and Aether had their daughter, Thalassa. Now Thalassa is my number one favorite goddess of the sea, yes you guessed it's because of the spotted dolphins. Thalassa is the Primordial Goddess and literal body of the sea. Even though the seas are depicted as wild, rough, and unforgiving she has a gentle and calm personality. She blames the winds (Anemoi) for the turbulence of the sea, so no fault of her own nature. On occasion when she decides to make an appearance she will rise from the sea. She rises as a sturdy woman with a seaweed dress and a ship's oar cradled in her hand.

Thalassa has the coolest things that represent her in my opinion, though I am a bit biased since I love the sea the most. Her symbols are the dolphin, coral, and foamy waves. Last month I overheard my Auntie Chaos and my cousin Thalassa discussing a new bright pink coral she created especially so she could make me an amazing one of a kind hair piece like some of my sea nymph cousins wear in their hair! So I bet this coral is her new 'child' she was talking about. Thalassa married the sea Titan Pontus and together they had 10 children! Of the 10 children 9 of the children were from the group the Telchines, they are known for their metalworking skills. The final child was Halia and she was the sea nymph of the island of Rhodes. She later becomes a wife to Poseidon and has six sons.

Hemara will most likely spend her free time visiting her daughter, the sea. Also having surprises ready for when her mother returns home to the mansion when the day starts. While waiting for that she can spend time if she chooses with her father and her siblings that never leave the Underworld and the ones that leave nightly like Hypnos. She doesn't get along much with the siblings that are the negative aspects of life, like deceit or retribution. Hemera actually loves her twin brothers a lot even though one represents death and the other dreams. I think she gets along with both of them so well because she knows death for mortals, plants, and animals is inevitable. I also think it has a lot to do with Thanatos being the representative of peaceful deaths. Our Hemera is too kind and happy to be able to handle the nasty deaths. I also don't think my cousin could handle the blood or manner someone dies if it were violent deaths that Thanatos represented, I know for a fact I'd throw up on the more gruesome deaths!

Nyx and Erebus' third child to be born was their 2nd son, Garas, the personification and god of old age. He is the only one of their kids that has decided to look old. He looks like a little shriveled up long white haired and bearded wrinkled lump of leather. His eyes are a dimmed gray and his skin tone is olive, but it's still leathery looking with wrinkles. Garas has a typical cranky old man attitude to go with his old look. He serves as the symbol of the end of life, honestly I don't think it bothers this cousin to look old because he gets to blame the old age for being a pain in everyone's chitons. He, unlike a lot of his siblings, decided to reside on Mt. Olympus and be a cranky old man there where he could "rest his old bones on a fluffy cloud", and yes that's actually what he said to me! Garas never married and never had any children, he doesn't much care for children so that's why he decided to never marry. His robes he wears are an earth brown and gray, on the bottom ½ of the robe there look to be ghostly figures on it to represent the end of life.
