Chapter 8 - 8. With A Pistol In The Room

The next day, Marcos woke up and found himself tied up. He tried to move, but it was impossible. All his efforts were futile, even if he tried to scream. No one was near him. The cold from the floor seeped into his body, and he felt his joints numb. While his life was a nightmare, the girls were feeding themselves in the canteen, forgotten about him.

However, Veronica was unsettled. She allowed fear to rule her to an extent of thinking about punishing Marcos as a mistake. But her friends made her remember that all their actions were for her. After all, Marcos was the one who framed her. She didn't debate with her friends but opted to buy some food for him. They tried to stop her, but she didn't listen. She went to pay for chicken slices and a bottle of water. Thereafter, she headed to Marcos.

When she entered the room, Marcos was still fighting to free himself. He had moved from under the bed but failed to untie himself. Veronica felt sympathy for him. She advanced closer to him and tried to untie him so that he was going to eat. Before she could finish setting Marcos' hands free, Renata and Leticia entered the room. Renata screamed at Veronica to stop freeing Marcos. Veronica told them she only wanted Marcos to eat. Leticia pushed her aside and restrained Marcos' arms. Veronica realized that keeping Marcos as a prisoner was making things worse. Her friends were being more brutal to him than she had expected. By their actions, she felt there was more to their anger than avenging her.

They stood around Marcos—like predators protecting their banquet—he wouldn't have escaped even if he wanted. Since his arms were tightly strained, he couldn't eat. He was shivering, and they couldn't tell what was wrong with him. Definitely, it wasn't the cold because the temperatures were not favorable that morning. He asked to go to the toilet, but they denied him the right. Again, Veronica disagreed with her friends. She was concerned about Marcos' well-being, so she tried to bring reasoning to her friends. However, they were all stubborn.

Leticia was then busy trying to call Chris' number. She kept on receiving a no-through signal. Veronica didn't know why they needed Chris. Renata volunteered to go look for Chris in his room. Before she could say her goodbyes, Chris entered. He apologized for being late. He took his eyes to Marcos, who looked terrified. He was carrying a small briefcase, which he put on Leticia's bed. Leticia rushed to open the briefcase, but Chris stopped her. Thereafter, he plucked out the gloves from his trouser pockets and slowly wore them, finger after finger. Leticia then went closer to her bed, took a small envelope under the mattress, and gave it to Chris.

As Chris received the envelope, his hands were shaking. He took the letter from the envelope and looked at it. Tears slowly oozed from his eyes as he kept his eyes locked onto the letter. He stared at Marcos, and his jaws expanded. Veronica knew something was odd, so she grabbed the paper from Chris' hand and scanned it. She was right; her friends had their own motive to hurt Marcos. It wasn't only to avenge her. They were hurting him because he was about to leak the information about Mariana, who committed abortion despite the law being against it. Marcos had everything detailed in that paper, and he had planned to put the paper on the notice board, but Leticia saw it before he displayed the paper. Veronica was in disbelief after reading the information on that letter.

For a few minutes, everyone was quiet, looking at Veronica's face, which remained wearing shock. Marcos broke the silence as he asked for forgiveness from Chris. However, Chris went to his briefcase and opened it up. Everyone's eyes were wide open to see what was inside the briefcase. He removed something that looked portable but was cushioned by a white material. Marcos tried his luck again, claiming that he wasn't at fault. All actions to hurt the crew were Kelvana's. Chris screamed, silencing him. At that instant, Veronica shouted at everyone and told them she was freeing Marcos. She didn't wait to hear from them. Instead, she went to free him.

Before she even knelt in front of Marcos, Chris grabbed her arm, and he pulled her closer to him. She tried to loosen Chris' grip, but it was firm. He looked into her eyes and frightened her with his veined face. He told her to stop what she was doing because it was going to cause misunderstandings between him and me. Veronica suddenly requested him to set her free as she felt his grip tightening around her arm, and he let her loose.

As soon as he let her go, Mariana entered and asked Chris to stop his actions. She even told Veronica to continue untying Marcos. Chris' anger subsided as his girlfriend modeled, going closer to him. Her chest was out, and her hands were on her waist. She wouldn't have allowed Chris to cross his limits, and Chris knew it. Thus, he didn't involve her.

Her intruding was unexpected to him. She stood in front of Chris, and everyone was quiet. She didn't care about Marcos' actions. Veronica went to untie Marcos. Chris jumped and pointed a pistol at Veronica's head. On seeing a pistol, everyone was shocked. Veronica felt death echoing an inch closer as she instantly froze. Mariana, in disbelief, asked Chris if he was in his right senses, but he remained voiceless.

While the tension grew in the room, Marcos freed himself. He jumped and knocked down Chris with one blow from his fist. Chris was down within seconds, and the pistol was next to him. Leticia and Renata rushed to close the door, but Marcos was fast, and he escaped.

When Chris woke up, he went straight to his girlfriend and sent a tight slap on her cheek. Mariana couldn't believe it, despite knowing that her boyfriend was unpredictable when angry. Leticia picked the pistol from the floor and gave it to Chris. He took it and ran after Marcos. The girls were all left standing, staring at each other. The air became thicker in the room as the rift was about to be created.
