Grand Line, Training Base.
Dozens of huge warships sat in the island's southern port, a sight almost as impressive as the legendary Buster Call.
"For the next three months, you'll face the toughest challenges on this island. Only the strong survive here!"
The Rear Admiral spoke harshly, then handed Roya and the others over to the Marines stationed on the island. His coldness made it feel like they were prisoners being escorted, and his face never softened.
"Follow me!"
The officer leading them, a Commodore from Headquarters, also wore a frown.
They were hosed down with strong jets of water and given new, plain Marine uniforms. The dorms were old and run-down. The officers were being treated like fresh recruits, allowed to keep only their personal weapons.
Inside the dorm room, shared by twelve people, Roya looked at Isca, her face bright red, unsure whether to laugh or feel sorry for her.
This is a mixed-gender dorm!
"There's no difference between men and women here!"
"If you want a better room, prove your strength in training. Right now, you're just rookies who don't deserve to make demands!"
"Everything depends on strength!"
The Commodore leading them showed no kindness.
Inside the room, the other officers looked at Isca, their eyes filled with obvious interest and judgment.
Roya pointed to the top bunk above him.
"Take the bunk above me."
"Thank you."
Isca thanked him softly. This was the first time she'd been in such a situation, surrounded by powerful men, and she felt a little lost.
Roya was the only one she trusted.
The next morning, a loud whistle woke them up. They rushed downstairs to line up and await orders.
Marines from the building next door started whistling.
"Hey, new recruits are here."
"They're from the East Blue!"
"And there's a pretty girl!"
"Hey, beauty, look over here!"
Roya was confused. Why are these Lieutenants and Captains acting like Barto and his crew? They're even more wild!
Luckily, some experienced officers from the East Blue explained, "They're from the North Blue. It's the most chaotic sea, so the Marines there are more outgoing. Just ignore them."
"North Blue."
Roya made a mental note.
"Look to the left, that's the West Blue."
The group looked to their left, and a chill went down their spines.
Unlike the carefree North Blue Marines, the West Blue Marines had serious faces, their hair neatly slicked back, and their uniforms were perfectly clean.
The veteran's voice was serious. "The West Blue isn't plagued by pirates, but by countless underground mafias and assassin groups. In that environment of conspiracies and assassinations, the West Blue Marines have adopted the mafia's ways and act very carefully."
"I see."
Roya understood. No wonder they look so serious. If they put on suits and sunglasses, they'd look just like the mafia.
"And there's the South Blue!"
Roya looked at the last group, his eyes almost popping out of his head.
"Holy crap, they're loaded!"
Compared to the others' basic gear, the South Blue Marines were decked out in luxurious equipment. They even had flamethrowers and other heavy weapons, like they were carrying an entire armory. Many of them also had mechanical enhancements on their bodies!
The others were stunned.
The veteran looked envious. "The South Blue has the most advanced technology in the world. The Marines there grew up with tools and gears, so they're all weapons experts."
"Amazing!"
The group was filled with envy, imagining robots combining with various guns and cannons raining down on their enemies.
So cool.
North Blue, West Blue, South Blue.
The Marines from the three seas had strong local styles, which made the East Blue officers envious and a little worried.
"Does the East Blue have any special characteristics?"
"The East Blue? Hmm, let me think!"
The veteran thought for a moment, then shrugged helplessly. "The East Blue's special characteristic is probably that it doesn't have any special characteristics."
"How lame!"
The group couldn't help but complain.
But they knew it was true.
The East Blue is known as the Sea of Peace, and also as the weakest sea. The Marines and pirates there are weaker compared to those in other seas.
After all, the living environment is too peaceful.
They could tell from the North Blue Marines' arrogant attitude that they didn't take the East Blue seriously.
After waiting for a while, the instructors finally arrived.
"Good morning, little guys!"
A beautiful woman came to Roya's squad.
She had short, wavy black hair, a black leather jacket, leather pants, and a spiked collar around her neck.
Very queenly.
"I am Vice Admiral Doll from Marine Headquarters. From today on, you are my subordinates."
Doll lit a cigarette and sighed with some displeasure. "Great, I'm stuck with the East Blue... the weakest."
"..."
The group stood up straighter. Even though Vice Admiral Doll didn't seem to like them, having a Vice Admiral leading them was more than they expected.
"Follow me."
Doll led the way, casually dropping a bombshell: "There are too many of you. Let's get rid of half of you today."
Half?
Everyone's expression changed drastically.
There were five or six hundred East Blue officers in this training camp, which meant that more than three hundred would be eliminated.
This is called gentle?
Someone couldn't help but ask, "Vice Admiral Doll, what happens if we're eliminated?"
"Don't worry, nothing will happen."
Doll glanced at the group. "The eliminated guys will return to the East Blue on a warship tomorrow morning. Staying here would just be a waste of time."
"..."
That's basically the end of them!
The group looked at each other.
If they were eliminated on the first day of training camp, they wouldn't be able to face anyone back home. They should at least try to last a few more days.
"We're here."
They arrived at a deserted, sandy training field. There was nothing else there.
Doll turned to face all the officers, a dangerous smile on her lips. "Today's training is very simple. We will divide into two teams to fight. Those who can still stand before sunset can stay."
"Huh?"
Many officers looked confused.
"Vice Admiral Doll, do you mean we'll be fighting in pairs? Or a group battle?"
"No, neither."
Doll shook her finger. "When I say divide into two teams, I mean all of you are one team, and I am one team!"
"Next, I will be your opponent!"
"Remaining standing after my attacks is considered passing. Of course, you can counterattack. If you can defeat me, that would be even better."
One person versus more than six hundred officers!
The group gasped in shock.
Then, anger rose up!
She was looking down on them too much!
Even a powerful Headquarters Vice Admiral was being too arrogant. They were the most elite Marine soldiers in the East Blue, each of whom had hunted pirates with bounties of over ten million!
"Clang!"
Roya's eyes turned cold as he drew his Rain Cutter sword. While the others were still furious, he charged towards Vice Admiral Doll without hesitation.
The thing he hated most was being looked down upon, but if he wanted to gain their respect, he had to show the strength to shut them up!
Take her down!
