Chapter 11 - The First Steps as a Necromancer

It had been one day since Narume had been kept underground, motionless.

After checking the system quests, she began to think about the different possible courses of action. Her first idea was to increase her combat power.

Kunivella was certainly powerful, but she remained, above all, a necromancer. If she had to face a Special Jonin or a Jonin, she would have a hard time. Most fighters in the world of Naruto were glass cannons: powerful in offense but fragile in defense.

A simple Lightning of the third level well-placed would be enough to bring them down. The problem was the absurd mobility of the shinobi. She couldn't afford to spam her spells—everyone didn't have a mana pool as immense as Momonga's.

Therefore, she needed to build a small army. She already had targets in mind: the beasts of the Forest of Death.

As she was thinking about it, an additional quest popped up:

Quest: A True NecromancerRequirement: Obtain an army of at least 50 individuals.Reward: An intermediate-level undead.

This quest perfectly aligned with her goals, so she decided it would be the first one to complete. She would start that night.

As she established her plans, her mind began to wander. She thought about everything she had done since her awakening, then nothing at all, lulled by the distant sounds coming from above, people living their lives.

She was just there, like a true corpse.

She only snapped back to herself when there was no more noise. She deduced it must have been late at night. She then cast Tremor Sense to scan the surroundings. Detecting nothing, she climbed out of her hole.

Before starting her activities, an idea crossed her mind:

Should I visit Naruto?

--------------------------------------------Twenty hours later

I stood in the Forest of Death.

As reckless as it might have been, I couldn't help but visit Naruto yesterday. While talking to him, I hesitated for a long time between leaving and walking away or just giving him back, like the last time.

In the end, I opted for the latter.

After that, I spent the night in my cave, inside the Forest of Death… after I "borrowed" a mattress from one of Konoha's stores.

What? Everyone deserves a little comfort, right?

Internally, I told myself I would return it when I no longer needed it… I think…

Shaking myself out of it, I focused on the forest and used Tremor Sense to scan the area.Within my perception range, I "saw" quite an interesting scene.

I moved discreetly to witness live a fight between a group of hyena-like creatures and some steroidal boar.

From what I knew, Hyaenidae would rarely attack something like a boar, as the risk was too great.

It took me a closer look to realize the target of these beasts wasn't the boar but its young. The fact that it had to protect them was what truly put the boar in danger, as one of the little ones was already wounded. I continued watching the fight for a moment before deciding to intervene.

I cast Oderless and then quietly approached the battlefield. Stopping next to a hyena that had been thrown by the boar, I noticed it was still alive.

Placing my hand on its flank, I ended its suffering with the Death Touch spell.

I then cast Animate Dead on the other fallen hyenas. Perched on a branch, I commanded my new minions to attack their former kin.

Chaos followed quickly.

Each hyena that fell joined my army. One of them tried to escape only to be pierced by an Acid Arrow spell.

It was just a level 2 spell, chosen to avoid elemental spells. The result was grim, and the beast's howl sent a chill down my spine. In the end, the hyena's body was beyond recovery.

Once all the hyenas had fallen, I turned my gaze toward the boar. It growled and charged, but collided with the barrier I had set up. After a few shakes, it collapsed.I finished it off quickly. Then I turned my gaze to the little ones. They were of no use to me, but without their mothers, they wouldn't survive.

In my great mercy, I allowed them to join their mother. At least they would be happy together, right?

By the end of the scene, I had a total of 18 beasts in my army. With them, I continued the hunt, but it became a little more complicated. The aura of the undead made the other beasts flee. All I could do was bury them and let them rest, but nothing worked. The beasts had hidden away.

So, I returned to visit Naruto.

After five days, the quest was finally complete.

My army now consisted of hyenas, the boar and its young, a few wolves, a panther, six rabbits, nine snakes of various sizes, including three venomous ones, and two giants, in addition to a few other creatures.

As I was about to claim my reward, I noticed another quest had also been completed.I would need to be cautious when visiting Naruto tomorrow, I thought, as I returned to my makeshift home to enjoy my "hard-earned" bed.

I wondered if its owner was still looking for it, recalling the whole mess the store owner caused when noticing the bed's disappearance. But well, it's been a few days, he should have calmed down by now.
