Chapter 2 - Can’t Accept A No!

Will you get your pretty self over here now, or is it only when I break your leg and bundle you up that you'll accept this marriage, you old spinster? Your mate is at their husband's home with three kids, enjoying the beautiful bliss that comes with marriage. It is only you, "My Old Spinster," that I know who loves staying alone so badly! Don't you know once you reach 30 years, you'll be fully considered an old woman that's already passed her prime? No! No! Not with me; I won't allow that for you, Mr. Cole kept ranting at Jayden, whom he can't stop referring to as "old spinster.

"Daaad, Dad," Jayden calls out to her father. I really can't accept this marriage. I am still in my prime, beautiful, hard-working, and diligent, and I can even provide for myself, not to mention that our family really doesn't need to accept this mysterious arranged marriage to climb up the social standing; at least to some certain extent, we are well-to-do in this city.

You really know how to anger me. Who told you it was a mysterious marriage? How do you even come up with that theory of social standing? Don't you know I'm doing this for your own good? Do you really want to wait until you're thirty and pass your prime already and be an old beautiful woman? Do you really want people to mock me? How do I even raise you, this unfilial daughter? Even tell me, do I raise you, give you the best education, and even etiquette just for you to come here and be bullshitting for me? What else do you want? Tell me! I promise to satisfy you. Can't you just marry in peace?

Dad It's really not that I want to make you unhappy or disobey you; it's just that I'm not comfortable with an arranged marriage. Life is more civilised already; who still practices all those old traditions? Dad, please just give me time. I'll work on myself and not delay marriage again, not just now; there are still a lot of things that I still want to enjoy with this single life of mine.

That's just an excuse. What else do you want to enjoy as a 28-year-old lady? Aren't you supposed to even be happy that there is still someone that has an interest in you? Dad, I am happy. I am really happy. It's just that what's this person's gain in marrying me? This mysterious husband candidate you got for me would have already done his research, yet he still wants to marry me, Dad? Aren't you supposed to be the first person to question his motive? Dad, let's forget this topic; nobody still practices arranged marriage in this age again.

You'll know him once you agree to this; he's not a mysterious husband candidate, just know that I won't accept a no from you. I want nothing but a yes, and that's final!. Mr. Cole stands up, walks towards the stairs, and looks back to face Jayden. You had better pick a convenient date and meet him so we can start preparing for both the court and traditional wedding. Enjoy the rest of your day.

I should enjoy the rest of my day after you've spoilt it. How absurd! At this stage, I really do think this person has bribed you for you to keep going against your daughter. Jayden kept muttering to herself as her father worked back to his room. She believed that either they had bribed him or he should have gained something for his unyielding attitude towards the marriage.
