Chapter 14 - Chapter fourteen

It felt like the days had flown by too quickly, and now it was our last night at the coast. I couldn't deny it—I had the best time of my life.

The night before, Pedro and I made promises to each other. He didn't fully open up, but I appreciated that he was willing to work through anything with me. Just knowing he was committed to making our relationship strong meant the world to me. Tonight, we decided to stay in, ordering room service, watching a movie, and indulging in a passionate night together. Pedro knew my body like a map, exploring every curve, every sensitive spot, making me feel things I never thought possible. Wrapped in his arms, I drifted off to sleep, feeling completely safe and loved.

Morning came too soon. By 10 AM, we were checked out and already on the road back to Windhoek. But something was off. Pedro had been acting distant ever since he received a business call earlier that morning. He kept it together enough to drive us safely, but I could tell his mind was elsewhere.

Pedro's POV

The call from my father had thrown me off. There was a looming threat—someone was targeting our casino. We weren't sure who yet, but my gut told me this wasn't just business competition. Someone had sent a package to our office with a chilling message: The Smiths will go down. That wasn't just a warning; it was a declaration of war. I couldn't afford to dwell on it too much right now, though. My priority was getting Lisa home safely. My tech team was already looking into it, and by the time I got back to Windhoek, I'd have more answers.

Despite everything, I had to admit—these past few days with Lisa had been incredible. She brought out a lightness in me I didn't know I needed. But reality was calling, and I had to face it.

By 5 PM, we were pulling into her driveway. Another 40 minutes on the road, and I'd be dealing with a mess at the casino. I helped Lisa with her bags, forcing a smile to reassure her.

"Babe, I have to head to the casino now. There's something I need to take care of. I'll call you later, okay?"

Lisa frowned slightly. "Are you sure you're okay?"

I placed a kiss on her forehead. "I'm fine, my love. Don't worry, okay?"

She nodded, still looking a bit unsure. "Okay… bye, Dzaddy."

I chuckled, shaking my head. "Don't do that—you know exactly what that does to me."

She giggled, blowing me a kiss before disappearing into the house. As I pulled away, I tried to shake off the uneasy feeling settling in my chest.

Lisa's POV

As soon as I stepped inside, I realized the house was empty. Mom was at work, and Romeo was still on holiday at John's place in Otjiwarongo. I had the house to myself for a while. After unpacking, I took a quick shower and called Mom to let her know I was home.

She picked up on the fourth ring. "Hey, sweetie! Did you arrive safely?"

"Yes, Mom, I just got in. Are you busy?"

"I'm on my way to a meeting, then heading to the hospital. I'm helping out tonight, so I won't be home."

"Oh, okay. Can Angela and Anna come over for a sleepover?"

She chuckled. "Sure, baby. Just no funny business."

I laughed. "Of course not, Mom. Thanks. Love you."

"Love you too, sweetheart."

After hanging up, I called my girls, and they were all in. By 7 PM, they had arrived, and we were in the kitchen whipping up something to eat.

Angela leaned against the counter, smirking. "So… how was the baecation?"

I grinned. "It was amazing. I had the best time."

Anna sighed dreamily. "Wow, I'm so happy for you, friend."

"Thanks, babes. But you know what? We need to plan a girls' trip to the coast—just us!"

They both squealed in excitement.

Angela gasped. "And later, we can even do a couples' trip! Like, rent a minibus and have a whole tour."

I laughed. "That's actually a great idea! Maybe next year. We just need to talk to the boyfriends."

We spent the evening eating, watching movies, and chatting. But even with my friends around, my mind kept wandering to Pedro. He still hadn't called or texted, and I was starting to worry. I knew he was busy, but he had promised to call.

By 2 AM, I had a silent prayer praying for protection over Pedro and for the strength to overcome whatever is bothering himbefore sleep finally took over.
