Chapter 4 - Let her go

"Maybe he's not as bad as people say?"

Wen Ran furrowed her brows in mild rebuttal.

"Even if he isn't as sick as the rumors suggest, have you ever thought about why he married you, Wen Ran? You wouldn't tell me you don't know that he's Mo Zixuan's half-brother…"

"Xiaoxiao, I have something to do. I'll call you back later!"

Casually, Wen Ran glanced over and saw Mo Zixuan stepping out of the car. Her expression changed slightly; not giving Bai Xiaoxiao a chance to respond, she immediately hung up.

Seeing him hurrying toward her, a surge of irritation rose within her. What exactly was he trying to accomplish with his relentless clinging?

"Ranran, get in the car. Let's settle this once and for all."

Recalling this morning when she had escaped his grasp, this time Mo Zixuan grabbed her without giving her any chance to break free. He turned and pulled her along.

Wen Ran was a step too slow and couldn't evade him. As he dragged her toward the roadside, she angrily swung her bag at him, exclaiming, "Mo Zixuan, let go of me!"

"I'm not letting go," he replied firmly.

Mo Zixuan was determined; he wouldn't release her. Even though he'd slept with another woman, the one he loved in his heart was her, and he believed she should forgive him. Besides, he was set up—if he hadn't been drugged that night, there would have been no scandal with Zhou Lin.

"Let her go!"

Suddenly, a deep, icy shout rang out. Startled, Wen Ran turned to see Mo Xiuchen, his expression cold and severe, stepping out of a black Aston from beside the road. In two strides he was before them—one hand clamped on Mo Zixuan's arm, the other yanking Wen Ran away.

He had appeared so suddenly and moved so quickly that Mo Zixuan couldn't dodge. His arm was pinched painfully, and once his grip loosened, Wen Ran was snatched away.

"Mo Xiuchen!"

Mo Zixuan glared at him as if he wanted to kill him.

Ignoring Mo Zixuan's murderous glare, Mo Xiuchen coldly warned, "I don't care about whatever relationship you had before. From now on, she's your sister-in-law. If I see that again, I won't hesitate to ruin your arm."

His glance swept over Mo Zixuan's arm, leaving no doubt: one more time, and his arm would be done for.

Wen Ran's delicate face turned slightly pale, her body momentarily stiffening.

Mo Zixuan's veins bulged on his forehead as he stared fiercely at Mo Xiuchen, so angry he almost forgot to be afraid. "Don't think I don't know it was you who set me up, Mo Xiuchen. You despicable scum—even if Ranran marries you, the one she truly loves will always be me!"

Mo Xiuchen snorted coldly, showing no interest in explaining his actions. He turned and pulled Wen Ran into the car. As if to deliberately provoke Mo Zixuan, he courteously opened the front passenger door for Wen Ran, watching her climb in before walking around to sit in the driver's seat.

Watching the black Aston speed away without a hint of reluctance, Mo Zixuan clenched his fists and vowed through gritted teeth that he would reclaim Wen Ran at all costs.

The Aston drove steadily.

Inside the closed cabin, a suffocating heaviness permeated the air.

Wen Ran inhaled deeply, catching the crisp, masculine scent of the man beside her, and her heart began to beat erratically for reasons she couldn't explain.

After getting into the car, he said not a word. His handsome features were set in an expression of cold indifference, and his chiseled features carried an unmistakable hardness. The frigid aura emanating from him reminded her clearly that he was angry.

Wen Ran's delicate fingers gripped the strap of her bag tightly. After a moment of silent contemplation, she lifted her gaze to his perfectly chiseled profile and tried to find a topic, asking, "Weren't you on a business trip? Why did you suddenly come back?"

Mo Xiuchen's large hand, defined by prominent knuckles, held the steering wheel firmly. His deep-set eyes glanced at the rearview mirror before he replied coolly, "I sent someone in my place."

His thin lips pressed into a rigid line of cold resolve. Wen Ran couldn't help but wonder: if he hadn't come back, would she have ended up in Mo Zixuan's car?
